Chapter 26
Chapter 26
The two who were helping her arrange her skirt were both young girls in their early twenties. Suddenly startled by her voice, they froze for a few seconds before replying, “Yan—President Yan…”
He Wei’s heart instantly turned to ashes.
Her lips drooped, a little depressed and a little uneasy.
Clearly, she and Yan Huai had no relationship now, but taking intimate photos with another man in front of him still made He Wei feel like she’d been caught cheating.
As the saying goes, even if you’re not a thief, you still feel guilty.
He Wei’s brows furrowed, and her shoulders slumped slightly.
The two girls noticed the change in her expression and thought they had said something wrong, cautiously asking, “Sister He Wei, are you okay?”
He Wei shook her head.
A few seconds later, still unwilling to give up, she asked again, “Why would President Yan come here?”
“A large portion of our brand’s jewelry is promoted by celebrities under President Yan’s company, and we collaborate quite a lot… though President Yan really hasn’t come much before…”
The other girl quickly added, “Anyway, I’ve never seen him. I wonder if he’s really as handsome as they say.”
The girl’s eyes sparkled, almost about to pop out hearts.
Usually, He Wei might have the mood to chat with them a bit, but today she had no interest at all. Her hand dropped, and just as she subconsciously reached to grab her skirt, the two girls stopped her, “Dear lady, you really can’t grab it again. If it gets wrinkled, it won’t look good.”
As soon as they finished speaking, Kevin called out to her from not far away, “He Wei, are you ready?”
He Wei responded, waited for the two girls to fix a stray strand of hair by her ear, then dragged her skirt to the center of the backdrop.
The wedding dress she wore today was a light blue gown, with a cinched waist design. The skirt was made of layered tulle, spreading out like rippling water, elegant and noble.
Su Mu had already stepped into the frame. He looked at He Wei deeply, “This outfit really suits your complexion.”
He Wei nodded, tugging at the corners of her lips, her smile somewhat forced.
Both of them had one-in-a-million looks; just standing together was pleasing to the eye.
Kevin stood behind the camera, taking a few test shots to find the right feel, sighing as he shot, “Can I ask your parents how they managed to give birth to such good-looking children?”
His accent was awkward and his expression exaggerated, making several girls present laugh.
The atmosphere on set was good, but unfortunately, He Wei couldn’t blend into it.
Only a few minutes later, when Kevin behind the camera made an OK gesture signaling the official shoot, did she force herself to focus on the photos.
“Su Mu, put your hand on He Wei’s waist.”
He Wei had just glanced toward the door when Kevin said again, “He Wei, don’t get distracted.”
“…”
She silently withdrew her gaze.
The next second, she felt a hand land on her waist.
Su Mu’s hand was placed very gentlemanly, but He Wei still felt a bit unaccustomed.
She subconsciously tried to dodge, but after realizing it, she restrained herself in time, quickly suppressing the fleeting unnaturalness in her eyes, and pulled out a gentle smile.
“Very good.”
Kevin waved his hand, “He Wei, move a bit closer to Su Mu. A leaning posture, then tilt your head up and look at him.”
He Wei did as told, leaning further into Su Mu’s arms, then raised her head.
She was wearing ten-centimeter high heels today, which narrowed the height difference between them a bit. One lowered his head while the other raised hers, forming a deeply affectionate gaze.
They had already been shooting for a few minutes. He Wei got into the state quickly—her eyes were beautiful, the corners slightly curved, as if countless unspoken girlish thoughts were hidden inside.
Su Mu stared at those eyes, his gaze gradually softening as well.
“Perfect!”
“Next pose.”
He Wei had been tilting her head up for more than two minutes just now, her neck almost stiff. As soon as she heard this, she hurriedly lowered her face.
“The man kisses the woman’s forehead,” Kevin paused, then added, “He Wei, close your eyes. Both of your expressions should be full of love.”
He Wei swallowed lightly, letting out a soft breath as she closed her eyes.
She seemed to understand why Yan Huai had kissed her forehead yesterday.
With her eyes closed, He Wei could clearly feel Su Mu’s breath drawing closer as he lowered his head. Her eyelids fluttered uncontrollably.
“Relax.”
He Wei took a few deep breaths again.
“Smile a bit.”
He Wei curved her lips again.
Then just as Su Mu’s lips pressed against her forehead, the door was pushed open.
He Wei immediately opened her eyes. A crisp female voice rang out almost simultaneously with the sound of the door opening, “Brother Kevin, how far along are you?”
Kevin shifted his gaze away from the camera and glanced at the girl, “Just started. Why are you here?”
The girl raised her hand and waved the camera in it, “I heard there were high-quality models today, so I came to practice.”
As she spoke, she turned to look at the two people standing in front of the backdrop, her eyes instantly lighting up, “Tsk, truly high quality.”
Kevin smiled, “Did you come alone?”
The girl pouted, tilting her head slightly and pointing her chin toward the doorway, “He’s on the phone.”
He Wei also subconsciously glanced toward the door. Just as her gaze shifted over, that person stepped in.
Kevin had worked with artists from Yan Huai’s company dozens of times and was on fairly good terms with them. After greeting him, he casually asked, “Why did you come too?”
That person answered simply, “Just taking a look.”
Kevin checked the time and didn’t say more. Turning back, he continued to the two high-quality models, “That last shot—do it again.”
He Wei felt completely unsettled.
She had already felt nervous when Yan Huai wasn’t there.
Let alone now that he was watching her.
Her heart pounded wildly, and even her breathing became rapid.
Su Mu had already placed his hand on her waist again. As he lowered his head and moved close to her forehead, he said in an extremely low voice, “Nervous?”
“…”
What he didn’t know was that He Wei’s kind of nervousness was not the same as what he meant.
He Wei closed her eyes and thought, forget it.
Whatever happens, happens.
Anyway, it was the photographer’s request, not that she actively wanted Su Mu to kiss her.
Even though she thought that way, when Su Mu’s kiss fell again, He Wei still couldn’t control the slight tremble of her eyelashes.
She suddenly remembered Yan Huai’s kiss.
Gentle yet scorching—at this moment, it seemed to overlap with where Su Mu was kissing.
But after all, it wasn’t the same.
He Wei kept telling herself not to open her eyes. She endured for nearly half a minute before finally hearing Kevin snap his fingers, “Alright, take a five-minute break.”
She was like someone who had just come ashore after drowning, opening her mouth to exhale a long, stifled breath.
Su Mu was amused by her and smiled, “Haven’t you shot this kind of scene before?”
He Wei shook her head, the corner of her eye unconsciously glancing toward Yan Huai.
That person wasn’t looking at her at the moment—he was talking to the girl sitting beside him.
That girl was obviously very close to him. When she held up the camera to show him photos, she even leaned toward him.
Yan Huai didn’t talk much, but occasionally, he would curl his lips slightly because of what she said.
He was smiling, though not very obvious.
He Wei: “…”
This wasn’t fair.
Why did she have to be on edge, being intimate with another man, while this man could openly chat and laugh with another woman?
He Wei tugged at the corner of her lips and withdrew her gaze.
When shooting resumed, she suppressed the faint churning discomfort in her heart, adjusted her mindset, and when she moved close to Su Mu again, she deliberately avoided looking at Yan Huai.
Yan Huai felt that He Wei was a bit off today.
Before, the way she looked at him was always restrained, but today… it was as if she didn’t want to look at him at all.
Yan Huai watched He Wei in front of the camera, being affectionate with another man, his brows furrowing deeper and deeper.
He had just reached out to take a cigarette, the lighter not yet touched, when Song Ying beside him lifted her eyes from the camera and glanced at him, “Go outside to smoke.”
Yan Huai cast her a sidelong glance, stood up, and took the cigarette pack and lighter outside.
Only then did Song Ying glance again at He Wei, who was still posing according to Kevin’s instructions.
This was something else.
In the ten minutes Yan Huai had been here just now, eight of them were spent watching her.
The most terrifying part was that as he watched that man and woman showing off their affection, clearly furious, he didn’t call a stop even once.
Song Ying raised her camera again and snapped a flurry of shots at the two people who looked like a couple in the throes of love. At the end, the corner of her lips curved, and she narrowed her eyes with a smile.
Beautiful—truly beautiful.
It’s just that they didn’t seem to take Yan Huai seriously at all.
Song Ying withdrew her gaze, stood up with the camera in hand, “Brother Kevin, we’re heading out first!”
He Wei had lunch at Fei Li at noon, then continued shooting for a few more hours in the afternoon. It wasn’t until after four that she came out of Fei Li.
Jiang Jingyue’s message arrived right on time: 【Baby, are you done? I’ve parked across the road from the Fei Li building.】
He Wei recognized her car. After crossing the street, she opened the passenger door and got in. While fastening her seatbelt, she heard Jiang Jingyue say, “Let me tell you some bad news.”
“What news?”
“Haven’t checked your phone yet?”
He Wei’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly opened her phone.
At that exact moment, Cheng Nuo also sent a message: 【Holy shit! Weiwei, the video of you hitting Mu Sheng got posted online!】
He Wei’s brows tightened, her fingers trembling uncontrollably.
Jiang Jingyue said, “Mu Sheng’s side probably only fed the scoop to Storm Entertainment. We didn’t hear anything at all on our end.”
As she spoke, she opened Weibo and handed the phone to He Wei. “They probably bought trending placement. It’s only been half an hour, and it’s already at the top headline.”
He Wei’s nerves tensed.
Mu Sheng was really trying to ruin her completely.
Jiang Jingyue asked again, “Do you know who might’ve released it?”
He Wei said in a muffled voice, “Mu Sheng, probably.”
In fact, this was even a day later than the time Mu Sheng told her it would hit the headlines yesterday.
Damn, that bastard.
Jiang Jingyue asked, “Do you have a grudge against her?”
Working in paparazzi circles, she knew Mu Sheng’s character all too well. Although Mu Sheng liked to suppress newcomers, she had never been this ruthless before.
He Wei shook her head. “We had a bit of unpleasantness… but it shouldn’t be…”
Her voice paused. “Does she know Song Zhenzhen?”
“Primary school, middle school, high school classmates, and college roommates. Basically grew up wearing the same pair of pants.”
“…”
No wonder.
Jiang Jingyue took one look at her expression and understood. She clicked her tongue, “Weiwei, your enemies are everywhere.”
He Wei had no mood to joke.
She also took out her phone and scrolled through Weibo. The topic “Supporting actress in Empress crew acts like a diva, uses excessive force during filming to hit a popular young actress in the same crew” was hanging at number one.
She was afraid she’d be finished before even becoming famous.
A chill spread through He Wei’s body. Her shoulders shrank slightly as she shivered. Trying her best to stay calm, she sent the video Feng Ning had previously given her—of Mu Sheng hitting her—to Jiang Jingyue, saying, “Sister Yue, help me promote this.”
Jiang Jingyue was still receiving the file.
After more than half a minute, when she tapped into the trending search again, she suddenly let out an “Eh,” “Why did your trending topic disappear?”
“Did you find someone to take it down?” Jiang Jingyue turned to look at her, “Weiwei, since when did you become so rich?”
He Wei: “???”
