Chapter 47
Chapter 47
How to put it—whether it was the original owner or He Wei herself, neither of them was the type who liked to swear.
This time, she really couldn’t hold it back anymore.
He Wei was glad she still had a bit of self-control, so she only cursed at Cheng Yan in her mind.
She took a deep breath, then slowly exhaled.
That restless, irritated feeling finally subsided quite a bit.
Su Mu still hadn’t noticed anything unusual. He knew He Wei was friends with Cheng Yan’s younger sister, so he didn’t find anything odd about the “Weiwei” address. He simply turned his head and asked her again, “Really don’t want anything to drink?”
He Wei shook her head. “No need, thank you.”
She didn’t even dare call him “Senior Brother,” afraid that Yan Huai on the other end of the phone might hear it.
Cheng Yan lightly tapped his fingers on the armrest.
After a few seconds of silence on the other end of the line, the voice came through again: “Take care of her for a day.”
He used the word “take care.”
Cheng Yan raised an eyebrow, as if hearing something novel. “A day?”
From the capital to Dubai, plus a night of rest at the hotel—one day would pass just like that.
International trips weren’t like domestic ones; they easily took four or five days at minimum.
Cheng Yan glanced sideways at He Wei again.
She sat properly, very upright and composed. She wasn’t even dozing off now. Her expression was calm, but further down, her fingers were tightly clenched.
Cheng Yan withdrew his gaze and lowered his voice slightly. “What do you mean?”
“I’m booking a flight.”
Damn it!
Cheng Yan almost couldn’t hold back a curse. In a public setting, with the plane about to take off and the cabin already quiet, he could only cough and lower his voice. “Are you serious?”
A low “mm” came from the other end.
Cheng Yan naturally knew that the relationship between Yan Huai and He Wei had already changed qualitatively, but—
“You’re that worried about her?”
Yan Huai didn’t answer.
Cheng Yan already knew the answer.
He sighed. This kind of thing shouldn’t be interfered with. “Beauty is the downfall of men.”
Cheng Yan added, “From then on, the king would not attend court early.”
He was about to say more when the flight attendant’s gentle voice came from above: “Sir, the plane is about to take off. Please turn off your device or enable flight mode.”
Before she even finished speaking, the call on the other end had already been hung up.
Cheng Yan didn’t mind. He turned his head and glanced vaguely at He Wei and Su Mu.
Although the two didn’t interact much, there always seemed to be a strange current of tension crackling between them.
Su Mu was not acting normally toward He Wei.
In fact, there had already been signs of it during the filming of “The Imperial Princess.”
However, at that time, Yan Huai and He Wei were not yet together, so Cheng Yan had not mentioned it to him.
But things were completely different now.
Although Cheng Yan liked teasing Yan Huai, he didn’t actually want him to end up with a “green hat situation.” He touched his nose and said in a neither high nor low voice, “Weiwei.”
He Wei’s turning motion visibly stiffened. She forced a slight smile. “Brother Cheng Yan.”
Since they were not on set, the way they spoke to each other now really did resemble siblings more.
Cheng Yan slightly lifted his chin. “I want the window seat. Would it be convenient to switch?”
He Wei couldn’t have been happier to agree and quickly nodded.
Su Mu frowned, but didn’t say anything.
On one hand, he didn’t have much interaction with He Wei yet; on the other hand, he was a well-known director in the industry. Neither side made it easy for him to speak up.
He couldn’t even show dissatisfaction too obviously—his frown only appeared for a moment before smoothing out again.
He Wei had already undone her seatbelt and stood up with the movie analysis materials she had brought from home to pass the time.
Su Mu very considerately stood up into the aisle. Only after the two of them finished switching seats did he sit back down.
He Wei finally let out a breath of relief.
Cheng Yan and Su Mu had worked together before, so they chatted casually for a bit. Then, once the plane took off, Director Cheng, who liked the window seat, pulled down his eye mask and slept all the way to the capital airport.
Tongcheng wasn’t far from the capital—the flight took only one hour to land.
During the taxiing phase, He Wei took the opportunity to turn off flight mode. The very first thing she did was send a message to Yan Huai explaining: 【I really wasn’t intentionally sitting with Su Mu today.】
Her words were one hundred percent sincere.
Feng Ning had bought tickets with her, but when they checked in online, both of them were either filming or simply didn’t know about it.
When they picked up their boarding passes today, most seats had already been chosen by other passengers. He Wei and Feng Ning were even seated on opposite sides of the plane.
He Wei: 【I switched seats with Brother Cheng Yan.】
The other side didn’t reply.
Even after getting off the plane, there was still no movement on WeChat.
He Wei’s eyelid twitched slightly, feeling a bit uneasy.
She didn’t give Su Mu another chance to offer to carry her luggage. Taking advantage of the moment when he was surrounded by fans, she pulled Feng Ning and went ahead to the meeting point.
The other three guests had already arrived, along with several staff members from the production team and director’s group waiting there.
After He Wei arrived, she first greeted everyone. Her mind was elsewhere, and she checked her phone every half a minute.
That celebrity couple was all over each other without restraint, whispering sweet nothings right beside her. The singer Fu Chengyu, however, was quiet, only occasionally glancing her way.
He Wei didn’t pay attention. On what felt like the countless time she checked her phone, Yan Huai finally replied.
Just one word: “Mm.”
He Wei: 【Are you mad?】
No reply.
He Wei also felt that her consideration this time hadn’t been thorough enough. With a good attitude toward admitting her mistake, she replied: 【I only found out we were on the same flight in the evening. When I got to the counter for check-in, there weren’t many seats left. I didn’t intend to sit with him.】
Yan Huai: 【Mm.】
He Wei felt a bit deflated.
A few seconds later, worried that she might be overthinking, Yan Huai sent another message: 【Be good, listen properly, don’t get too close to him. If anything happens, look for A Yan.】
Only then did the corners of He Wei’s mouth lift slightly again.
Beside her, Feng Ning watched her changing expressions over the past few minutes with curiosity, but didn’t dare ask.
Half a minute later, her phone vibrated.
As He Wei’s assistant, Feng Ning followed all apps and accounts related to He Wei.
Among them was an app specifically for alerting when celebrities trended on Weibo and when.
Feng Ning opened it and saw that it was exactly this notification.
May 18th, 10:27 PM — #Let’s Go Travel Together Episode 1# number one on the trending list.
“Weiwei-jie, look,” Feng Ning said excitedly, quickly holding her phone in front of He Wei. “I think you’re about to get famous!”
He Wei was amused by her and smiled.
She opened the top Weibo trending topic and saw that most of it was airport photos of the guests—especially from the Tongcheng to capital flight. Just the photos of Su Mu carrying her suitcase took up several posts.
Su Mu’s public persona was too well-built; most comments below were praising his gentleness and consideration.
A few people questioning their relationship were quickly suppressed by fan control.
It was obvious that Su Mu’s fans strongly disliked their idol being linked with other celebrities.
That suited her just fine.
She didn’t want to be associated with a hypocritical public figure who acted out in public restrooms anyway.
He Wei exited the trending topic and checked her backend. She was only a little over 100,000 followers away from reaching three million.
She was surprised and turned to ask Feng Ning, “Did the company buy me followers?”
After all, in the industry, it wasn’t rare for one million followers to include nine hundred ninety thousand bought ones.
Feng Ning shook her head. “Weiwei-jie, you should post a Weibo. Posting more helps increase followers.”
Ever since she started following He Wei, she hadn’t posted a single original Weibo. The few posts on her page were all reshared advertisements.
In the past, when He Wei had few fans, Weibo had basically just been decoration.
Now, when she opened the comment section, many fans were urging her to post, some even suspecting she had gone missing.
He Wei didn’t immediately think of what to post, so she simply picked a photo from her album of herself in a school uniform and added a few words: Back to seventeen.
Because most of her followers were new, they were still very active.
Likes and comments broke a thousand within minutes.
For a few seconds, He Wei even had the illusion that she was about to become famous.
She happily opened the comments and read them one by one. The earlier ones were all fairly normal, roughly like—
@Hot-Hand-Smashed-Cucumber: 【Mommy ahh! What kind of god-tier looks is this!】
@Black Mountain Old Demon: 【Pretty girl, want to date? I have a loli voice!】
@One-Two-Little-Kids: 【I’m suffocating, please marry me right now!】…
After scrolling through a few comments, He Wei found one that stood out from the rest—
@Flower-of-Extreme-Skill:【Don’t you guys notice that the girl’s hand is being held by another man’s hand? Don’t ask me why I say it’s a man—I don’t believe a girl would have such a big hand!】
He Wei’s sleepiness from late at night was instantly jolted away by this comment. She scrolled up and opened the image to take a look—her left hand was indeed being held by Yan Huai. Although he didn’t appear much in the frame, just that beautiful hand alone was already enough to spark imagination.
And the fans had clearly also discovered the blind spot, all speculating about the owner of the hand.
Most were guessing the male second lead from the campus drama, and a few even guessed Su Mu.
In any case, anyone who had even the slightest connection with He Wei appeared in the comment section.
Just then, Yan Qing’s WeChat message came in: 【So whose hand is it?】
He Wei answered honestly: 【My boyfriend’s…】
She had posted the Weibo too quickly and hadn’t carefully looked at the photo. Who would’ve thought she had uploaded the one taken a few days ago when she was with Yan Huai.
Yan Qing: 【I don’t think you’ll be able to keep it hidden for long. Let it run its course. If someone digs into it deeply, then respond; if not, just pretend you didn’t see it.】
He Wei: 【Sister Qing, should I delete the Weibo?】
Yan Qing: 【Don’t delete, don’t respond—generate buzz.】
【Okay.】
【But I’m actually quite curious about your boyfriend—this is basically a hand-control paradise.】
He Wei: “……”
That Weibo post did indeed bring her a lot of attention.
The next day when they arrived in Dubai, He Wei even found herself on the tail end of the trending list.
Temperatures in Dubai in May were not low, so filming was mostly indoors, with outdoor activities only happening at night.
Filming started that afternoon.
The first episode was simple and harmonious. It began with a “mysterious guest” who wasn’t mentioned in the script appearing to announce the tasks, and then the recording continued according to the planned storyline.
The reason the guest was “mysterious” was that until they revealed themselves, no one knew who they were.
He Wei was full of anticipation waiting for the mysterious guest to appear—then when Cheng Yan walked out, she nearly couldn’t keep her disappointed expression under control.
No wonder he had gone all the way from the capital to Dubai as a transfer; it turned out he was participating in this episode with them.
Cheng Yan was essentially a friendly cameo and only participated for less than half an hour.
After half an hour, he happily went off to enjoy his vacation, while the remaining guests still had to continue filming outdoor scenes after dinner.
The evening filming content was clearly written in the script. Since it was the first episode and everyone was still in the adjustment phase, it took a bit longer than expected.
The originally scheduled wrap time was 9:30, but in reality, they finished nearly an hour later.
The others went to stroll around the nearby night scenery, but He Wei was still thinking about Yan Huai, so she didn’t go with them and instead walked toward the hotel with Feng Ning.
The streets were brightly lit, still bustling at this hour.
He Wei glanced at her quietly silent WeChat, calculated the time difference with China, and sent a message to Yan Huai: 【Have you eaten dinner?】
A few minutes later, he replied: 【Mm.】
It was 6:30 PM back in China—he really did eat early today.
Staring at that single “Mm,” He Wei spun out countless thoughts. No matter how she looked at it, she felt that Yan Huai was still angry.
This man’s temper really was too hard to soothe.
He Wei frowned slightly, still thinking about what to reply next, when a car ahead honked.
She pulled Feng Ning slightly to the side.
The horn sounded again.
He Wei’s brows furrowed even tighter. She couldn’t help but look up toward the source of the sound.
The car was only a few meters away. Just as she recognized the wildly flashy luxury emblem, the passenger door opened—and the person inside got out.
He Wei’s gaze shifted. When it landed on that person, she froze for several seconds—until Feng Ning beside her whispered in a restrained voice: “Sister Weiwei, is that President Yan?”
“……”
It didn’t seem like she was seeing things.
He Wei’s heart suddenly began to pound wildly. Overseas was different from home; actors had relatively more freedom here. Her eyes turned hot, and her mind followed suit, and without any hesitation she ran over and threw herself straight into his arms.
She asked softly: “Why are you here?”
A low male voice sounded above her head: “Not worried about you.”
“Afraid I’d cheat on you?”
Yan Huai narrowed his eyes slightly. “Afraid you’d be tricked away by Su Mu.”
Same meaning.
He Wei held him even tighter.
When Cheng Yan called him earlier, he also asked whether Yan Huai was worried about that aspect of He Wei, but in reality, Yan Huai was worried about Su Mu.
Su Mu had originally been an artist under Huaying. It was only after he became popular that he set up his own studio and developed independently.
He had plenty of scandals about sleeping with fans and hookups, but none of them ever blew up, so his public persona was maintained quite successfully.
Yan Huai had never paid much attention to these things. The only reason he knew anything about Su Mu was because Yan Qing had once been his manager.
But He Wei didn’t know any of this.
She only thought Su Mu’s “cold and abstinent” persona had collapsed, and hadn’t considered anything else. Right now, she had no mind to think about it anyway. Buried in the man’s arms, she asked softly: “Are you still angry?”
“No.”
He Wei loosened her grip slightly, then lifted her face. She stood on her tiptoes and quickly kissed his lips—just for half a second—then buried herself back into his chest again. “Are you still angry now?”
Yan Huai’s breath was filled with her scent. His eyes darkened, and he gave a low “Mm.”
He Wei said softly: “When we were filming today, I barely talked to him at all.”
She lowered her voice, coaxing him in the way a girlfriend would.
But the man still didn’t respond.
He Wei rose onto her tiptoes again, this time not kissing him. She knew exactly what Yan Huai liked to hear, and when she spoke, her warm breath fell entirely against his neck: “Brother Yan Huai…”
Yan Huai’s throat moved. He pulled down her arm and yanked her firmly into his arms: “Stop talking.”
A few meters away, in the car, Cheng Yan who had witnessed everything:
“……”
Damn it.
What exactly did I do wrong to deserve this kind of torture?
