Chapter 1: Not Someone to Be Trifled With

Published: June 5, 2026 | By peach_blossom

The Fang family were the village butchers. Fang Dalen and Wang Cuixiang had five sons and one daughter. Every one of the sons was tall and powerfully built. In the countryside they were known as the Five Tiger Generals. Ordinary families did not dare provoke the Fang family.

Their daughter, Fang Yuan, was a notorious troublemaker throughout the surrounding villages. Since childhood, she had followed behind her brothers, running wild with them, and had never reasoned with anyone.

Because of this, Fang Yuan’s marriage prospects had become a major problem. Left with no better option, she became engaged to the eldest son of the Lu family from the neighboring village, a man whose previous engagement had already been broken off.

On the day of the wedding, after the Fang brothers who had escorted the bride had just left, Li Meng, who had previously been engaged to the Lu family’s eldest son, came crying and wailing to the Lu household. She repeatedly claimed that Fang Yuan had stolen her marriage.

She even said that she was carrying Eldest Lu’s child.

Anyone who had ever inquired about Fang Yuan’s reputation would never have dared come and make trouble at her wedding.

Her reputation for being unruly was no exaggeration. Without caring about right or wrong, she simply flipped the table over.

Then she grabbed Eldest Lu and gave him a thorough beating with her hands and feet. Li Meng, who had come to cause a scene, was stunned. She had run into someone even fiercer than herself.

To demonstrate her affection for Lu Feng, Li Meng threw herself in front of him protectively. Fang Yuan ended up beating her along with him.

In Fang Yuan’s words, a woman with such loose morals was no good either and deserved a beating.

When Mother Lu saw the scene, she thought to herself, Neither of these girls is easy to deal with. She slapped her thigh and wailed, “We’re in trouble.”

It was Father Lu who, in his panic, shouted for the second and third sons to come in and stop Fang Yuan’s one-sided assault.

Eldest Lu’s face had been scratched up, his hair was a complete mess, and in the chaos someone had kicked him as well. Sitting on the ground, he looked utterly miserable.

Fang Yuan smoothed her hair back, planted her hands on her hips, and glared at the Lu family. “I don’t want this worthless man anymore. Tell me, what are you going to do about it?”

Mother Lu had been thoroughly intimidated by Fang Yuan’s punching, scratching, and kicking. This girl was even more overbearing than her own mother-in-law had been when she was alive. Thinking of the fact that this girl also had five equally unreasonable brothers backing her up, Mother Lu did not even dare pity Lu Feng. Subconsciously, she replied, “Whatever you say, that’s what we’ll do.”

Lu Er, who had come in to help break up the fight, frowned when he heard that. Could they casually agree to something like that? Could such a promise be made so easily?

Fang Yuan looked the shabby house up and down and found nothing worth noticing. The two young men who had just come in, however, were rather good-looking.

The one frowning, with his drooping brows and gloomy expression, was especially eye-catching.

Fang Yuan pointed at him. “Him. Is he from your family?”

Following her gaze, Father Lu and Mother Lu hurriedly introduced him. “That’s our second son.”

Fang Yuan examined the young man with a dark expression. His build was somewhat thin, and he was not bad-looking, though he did not look particularly cheerful. Casually, she asked, “Is he engaged?”

Father Lu had no idea what Fang Yuan was planning. Stammering, he said, “Our second son isn’t engaged yet.”

Mother Lu added hesitantly, “Our second son studies very well. He’s famous even in the county. He’s going to university in the future.”

Fang Yuan casually asked the young man standing by the doorway, “Do you already have a sweetheart outside?”

Lu Er was a thoughtful man. While working outside, he was usually the one taking charge. Very rarely did he allow others to lead him around.

But today, the Lu family was clearly in the wrong. Two young women had come into the house at the same time, and matters had escalated into this chaos. Lu Er had been thinking about how to settle the matter.

Especially because the Fang family was not easy to provoke, and Fang Yuan was as domineering and reckless as the rumors claimed. From beginning to end, his brows had never relaxed.

Father Lu quickly answered on behalf of his second son. “No, no. How could he? We don’t have those conditions. All the family’s money went toward getting a wife for the eldest son.”

And not just one prospective wife. First an engagement, then a broken engagement, then another engagement. Wasn’t that simply wasting money?

Father Lu was terrified that if he answered too slowly, Fang Yuan might start beating his second son as well.

Pointing at the young man by the door, Fang Yuan spoke in an extremely domineering tone. “I’m asking you. Answer for yourself.”

Her posture clearly suggested that if he did not answer, she would kick him.

How had the trouble involving Eldest Lu suddenly landed on his own head?

Lu Er glanced at Fang Yuan, who did not even bother raising her eyelids properly when looking at people. This girl was truly overbearing.

He wanted to know why she was asking such things at a time like this. In a clear, steady voice, he replied, “No.”

Fang Yuan let out a soft snort. Clearly, she did not think highly of Lu Er. A grown man who answered whatever he was asked was probably someone without much backbone.

Still, his voice sounded pleasant.

Fang Yuan opened her mouth and declared, “Then it’s him. Today, I’m the wife that your Lu family brought home for the second son. A university student’s wife.”

This was the second earth-shattering moment in the room that day.

Could a marriage partner really be changed so casually?

Where had this female tyrant come from? She was stealing a husband right inside the groom’s own house.

She did not want the eldest brother, so she simply switched and married the second brother instead.

Everyone in the room, including Li Meng, the reborn woman, was shocked by these words. Was this really the wealthy man’s wife she had envied for half her life?

This woman was even fiercer than someone who had lived two lifetimes. She was on an entirely different level.

She actually dared think of something like this?

Li Meng herself was no ordinary woman. You could tell from her name alone that her family had some education.

Since she had already broken off her engagement because she did not think highly of Lu Feng, why had she come to disrupt his wedding today?

Because yesterday she had taken a fall. When she woke up, she had somehow learned that Lu Feng, the man who had once broken off his engagement with her, would become someone with a house, a car, status, and wealth in the future, the sort of person completely beyond her reach.

In other words, she had become the heroine of a rebirth story and had come to seize an opportunity.

Today, Li Meng had come prepared to risk everything. She intended to reclaim her true love and accompany the future wealthy Lu Feng toward a wonderful future, just like the heroine in a rebirth novel.

Looking at Lu Feng, Li Meng clung tightly to him and refused to let go. If she wanted a good life in this lifetime and never wanted to endure the poverty of her previous life again, she had to take Lu Feng back.

The most shocked person by Fang Yuan’s declaration was actually Lu Er. His eyes widened.

Wasn’t this a little too casual?

He considered himself a man of some experience, yet he had never encountered anything like this.

Still, he could tell that this woman was outrageously unreasonable. There was no point trying to reason with her. More importantly, nobody’s opinion mattered today anyway. Later, they would have to give the Fang family a proper explanation.

Let the Fang family reason with this foolish elder sister when the time came.

Lu Er’s thinking remained perfectly organized. He simply chose not to speak anymore.

Father Lu had spent his entire life timid and afraid of trouble. So frightened that he hiccupped, he stammered, “Th, this... can that really work?”

He did not even think to ask whether his second son was willing.

Mother Lu stopped crying as well. Though timid, she possessed a bit of cunning. She had finally raised a promising son. She could not let someone snatch him away so easily.

Fang Yuan might be suitable for the eldest son, but she was not worthy of her second son.

Stammering, she protested, “N, no. My son is going to university. He’s going to bring honor to our ancestors.”

Li Meng wanted to steal away the good future that belonged to Fang Yuan. She wanted to drive far away the Fang Yuan who threatened her.

Seeing that the two elders of the Lu family were ineffective, she rolled up her sleeves and took action herself.

“You shameless woman!” she shouted angrily. “You’re after a university student. Do you think you’re worthy?”

Fang Yuan glanced at Li Meng and tossed out a contemptuous reply.

“At least I have more shame than you. You’re trying to steal my marriage, Fang Yuan’s marriage. Do you think you’re worthy? Only an indecent woman like you would fancy this morally bankrupt thing.”

Li Meng was about to speak when Fang Yuan grabbed a dirty rag and flung it directly into her face.

“You’re an eyesore. Shut up.”

She acted the moment she decided to. She simply did not regard Li Meng as worth anything.

Mother Lu, watching from the side, was so frightened that she shrank back.

She immediately shut her mouth right along with Li Meng.

Fang Yuan looked arrogantly around the room.

“I’m an unmarried young woman. If I walk out of your courtyard after entering it and end up becoming a divorced woman in everyone’s eyes, that’s a loss I won’t accept. Your Lu family must give me an explanation.”
