Chapter 10: Something Frightening
Lu Feng looked at the west room that had originally been decorated festively. Now all four corners were empty. Fang Yuan had nearly stripped even the New Year pictures off the walls and taken them away. He wanted to cry too. That female bandit.
Lu Er had originally been following behind Fang Yuan, but Fang Yuan stopped, and Lu Er subconsciously retreated several steps. First, this woman was far too fierce. Second, he needed to avoid impropriety.
Fang Yuan’s face darkened, though her tone remained fairly normal. “What are you hiding for? Behave properly. If you do, I won’t hit you.”
Lu Er’s little masculine heart shattered into pieces. Could he really be afraid of a woman?
Truth be told, he was afraid. Based on what he had personally witnessed, when it came to physical strength, he genuinely could not beat this woman. His small frame was no match for her.
Of course, a man should not lay hands on a woman. How disgraceful. Always talking about hitting and killing, how crude.
Looking at Lu Er, Fang Yuan felt a bit of regret. Was he not a fool? Why was he just standing there in a daze?
“What are you staring at? Lead the way. How am I supposed to know where your family’s old house is?”
Lu Er came back to his senses. So that was why Fang Yuan had stopped walking. She did not know the way.
Lu Er led the way in front and asked as they walked, “Then how did you know our family had an old house?”
Fang Yuan answered casually, “Third Granny told me. When she was arranging the marriage, she said that in the future you and Third Brother would live in the old house, while the new house would all belong to me.”
The meaning was crystal clear. I only agreed to marry into your family under those conditions.
Hearing that, Lu Er became furious. This woman had harbored evil intentions before even marrying into the family. She had wanted to drive both him and Third Brother out.
He had known all along that she was no good.
He was even angrier at his parents. They had agreed to such conditions without discussing them with him or Third Brother.
They had truly gone all out just to get a wife for the eldest son.
Fang Yuan was not even willing herself. The first thing out of her mouth was, “And now it’s been switched to you. The house is gone, and all that’s left is the old house. Forget it, I won’t complain.”
Lu Er found it impossible to think well of her and immediately replied with a barb, “You haven’t even asked whether I agree to this.”
He was practically exploding with rage.
Besides, although the house was gone, they had gained more than 350 yuan in return. What exactly was wrong with him?
Of course, his confidence was not that strong. He would need money for university in the future.
For the next few years, he would not be earning anything.
If Lu Er’s words carried thorns, then Fang Yuan’s words carried guns and cannons.
“Your whole family tricked someone into marriage. You still dare say you don’t agree?”
Did anyone need to ask for the opinion of compensation merchandise?
Seeing how overbearing this woman was, Lu Er immediately shut his mouth.
He was afraid she would ignore all rules and simply start hitting people.
If she kicked him out onto the main road, it would be far too embarrassing.
As they walked, Fang Yuan lectured the unfortunate child of the Lu family.
“I don’t dislike you either, but you need to behave properly in the future, understand? Bloodline power is very strong. If you turn out like Lu Feng, I won’t tolerate it.”
Lu Er was so angry he nearly exploded.
“My father and mother are both perfectly fine. As for bloodline inheritance, I won’t turn out like Lu Feng.”
Besides, what did this have to do with bloodline power? It was all because Lu Feng, that embarrassing fool, could not control himself.
Then Lu Er fell silent.
He had been angered into confusion.
Since when had he become someone others disliked?
If not for today’s situation, would his marriage ever have been arranged so casually?
If Lu Er wanted to get engaged, young women would come flocking to his house even without a bride price.
That was not bragging.
Lu Er was handsome, and he was also a university student. Girls from the village and girls from the township all liked to take a second look at him.
If Lu Er had not been focused on leaving this place and building a future elsewhere, finding a wife would never have been a concern.
Then Fang Yuan suddenly tossed out a remark from nowhere.
“So Lu Feng was picked up from the roadside and isn’t your parents’ biological child?”
Otherwise, if everyone in your family behaved properly, why was Lu Feng the only exception?
The question struck straight at the heart.
Lu Er took a deep breath.
This woman’s brain was broken.
“He’s their biological son. He’s already a grown man. How could our parents control everything he does?”
Fang Yuan looked disgusted.
It was still a bad bloodline. And his parents had not taught him properly either.
Looking at Lu Er, she reluctantly gave him a bit of face.
“Then Lu Feng must have been the one who learned bad habits first. You are not allowed to imitate him.”
Pouting angrily, Lu Er did not reply.
After circling around so much, they were still discussing the same issue.
At least she was no longer saying that their family’s bloodline was bad.
It was truly infuriating.
Lu Er wished he could chew Lu Feng to pieces.
The man had utterly disgraced them.
When Fang Yuan received no response from Lu Er, her face darkened.
What did this man mean?
Did he actually want to learn from Lu Feng?
So when Lu Er brought her into the old house, he saw Fang Yuan standing there with her hands on her hips, glaring at him.
Startled, Lu Er leapt onto the kang in a single bound.
“What are you trying to do?”
That posture was unforgettable to him.
It was exactly the same posture Fang Yuan had used before kicking Lu Feng.
The memory had left psychological scars.
Fang Yuan asked aggressively, “Are you planning to imitate that improper Lu Feng?”
Lu Er felt extremely wronged.
“Why would I imitate him? Stop talking nonsense.”
Fang Yuan snorted.
“I am a very reasonable person. Don’t learn from that shameless, immoral Lu Feng. Otherwise I’ll make you regret it.”
What she did not say was that she could not let Lu Er be taught by Father Lu and Mother Lu in the future either. What if they turned him into another Lu Feng?
Out of respect for the elders, she kept those words to herself.
As for not becoming like Lu Feng, Lu Er was completely confident.
That was something he truly could not learn.
His brain was not as simple as Lu Feng’s.
He also despised Lu Feng’s actions.
Just getting married had cost the family so much money from beginning to end, and in the end things had turned out like this. Even his brothers had been dragged into it.
Their parents had been forced to bow and scrape in front of others.
If Lu Feng had any backbone at all, he should have stepped forward and cleaned up his own mess.
Lu Er wished he could grab Lu Feng by the neck and shake him while asking, What is so terrible about remaining a bachelor? Did you really have to squander the family like this and make our parents suffer?
Then he saw Fang Yuan examining the old house from top to bottom.
She shot him a glare.
“You’re wearing shoes on the kang. Don’t you know any manners?”
The disgust on her face could not have been more obvious.
Lu Er thought to himself, If I wasn’t afraid that raised foot of yours would kick me, I wouldn’t have climbed onto the kang in the first place.
Being in the same room with you, and on the same kang, is something truly frightening.
Fang Yuan had very high standards for cleanliness.
Wearing shoes on the kang? And he was a university student too.
Wasn’t that rather uncultured?
He needed to be taught properly.
After secretly glancing at Fang Yuan and confirming she had no intention of kicking anyone, Lu Er finally climbed down and stood in an inconspicuous corner.
He was afraid Fang Yuan might pay too much attention to him.
Surveying the surroundings, Fang Yuan’s face was full of disgust.
“This room is so dilapidated. Who knows whether it will leak when it rains heavily.”
Afraid that her dissatisfaction would lead her back to tormenting his parents, Lu Er hurried to soothe her.
“It won’t. Third Brother and I spent more time living here. It looks run-down, but it doesn’t leak. We can repair it later and make it even sturdier.”
At last, Fang Yuan nodded.
“At least Third Granny didn’t lie to me about this. It’s old, but it’s peaceful to live in. I can’t stand looking at two immoral people, so I’ll make do with this place.”
Lu Er truly did not know what to say.
Before even marrying into the family, she had already been plotting to take their house and squeeze out her future younger brother-in-law, yet she could say it all so openly.
Fortunately, this woman had not become their eldest sister-in-law.
Otherwise, one could already imagine how miserable life would be in the future.
Then again, he did not want this woman as his wife either.
That future looked equally miserable.
