Chapter 20: The Logic of the Fang Family
Lu Er rode the bicycle in a crooked, weaving line. His slender waist really could not take being slapped like that. This woman was not very careful with her hands.
Lu Er’s face turned bright red. “Y, you can’t just slap randomly when you’re angry. Do you know where that was? A man’s waist. Can it be slapped casually?”
Besides, although Lu Feng’s engagement and broken engagement with Li Meng had cost a lot of money, the main reason there was no money left for university was because of marrying Fang Yuan. Could responsibility really be pushed around so casually?
Lu Er finally managed to steady the bicycle.
Fang Yuan had no idea what he was talking about. “Where?”
Then she even reached out and felt around his waist.
“Oh my, my parents said this place can’t be slapped carelessly. Are you okay?”
Her tone was full of concern, without the slightest hint of pretending.
Lu Er’s whole face flushed red. If you stop touching me, then everything will be fine.
He grunted and said, “I’m fine.”
His legs had already been a little weak from riding. After Fang Yuan’s little episode, Lu Er pedaled the bicycle like a flying runner. Even he did not know where all that strength came from.
Meanwhile, Fang Yuan acted as though nothing had happened at all.
“Oh right, do you want to stop by my house?”
Those words were like a curse. The instant he heard them, Lu Er’s legs went weak.
Lu Er was a steady person and knew he would have to face this sooner or later, but when he thought about Fang Yuan’s brothers, he still felt intimidated.
Had it been any other family’s daughter, Lu Er would have had the courage to sit down and discuss the marriage arrangements.
But with the Fang family, Lu Er felt a little cowardly.
The word “discuss” probably was not very useful there.
Before Lu Er could even speak, however, the bicycle was stopped by someone.
Three burly men grabbed the handlebars.
With that kind of presence, most people would be frightened.
Compared to these three, Lu Er’s small frame truly looked pitifully weak.
One of them spoke.
“Fang Yuan, how can you be so reckless? What day is today? And you’re running around with some wild young man.”
Lu Er recognized the Fang brothers. Hearing that, he thought, They really are reasonable people. They know their daughter should behave properly.
Of course, even if they were reasonable, his legs were still weak, because his family was the one in the wrong.
Fang Yuan became a little excited.
“Third Brother, Fourth Brother, Wuhu!”
Lu Er let out a hiccup.
Not even all of them had come.
There were still the eldest and second brothers.
Sneaking a glance at their physiques, he finally understood why Fang Yuan was always criticizing him for being skinny.
Compared to them, he really did not measure up.
The Fang family’s fifth son was Fang Yuan’s twin brother.
The tough fellow’s name was Fang Wuhu.
His face was red with urgency as he said, “What’s going on? Explain everything clearly. Your brother will help you figure out a solution.”
He truly shared his sister’s worries.
From the sound of it, he did not seem to have many bottom lines.
Lu Er hiccupped again.
This sounded like the prelude to silencing someone permanently.
Fang Yuan’s face darkened.
“What nonsense are you talking about? I’m a respectable person. Be careful or Dad will swat you into the sky.”
Then she pulled Lu Er over and introduced him.
“Meet him. This is my husband.”
Fang Sanhu stared wide-eyed.
“Nonsense. This isn’t the brother-in-law who got married yesterday. What did you do to him? Explain yourself.”
Fang Sihu said, “If you liked pretty boys, you should’ve snatched one before the wedding. Snatching one after getting married? Even Dad wouldn’t be able to handle that. That’s not right.”
Hearing those words, Lu Er immediately understood.
Fang Yuan was absolutely not someone he could afford to provoke.
Fang Wuhu asked, “The previous brother-in-law is still okay, right?”
Clearly, they were already discussing how to clean up the aftermath.
At that moment, Lu Er finally understood what kind of family this was.
Any thoughts of breaking off the marriage completely vanished.
Whatever Fang Yuan said, that was how things would be.
He would listen to Fang Yuan.
Fang Yuan was unhappy.
“What kind of person do you take me for? Stop talking nonsense. I don’t like pretty boys. Stop causing trouble. I’m busy.”
Fang Wuhu glanced at the pretty boy.
“And this is what you call not liking them? Where do you think you’re going? How big a matter is this? You still dare run around? Go home first and explain everything to Mom and Dad. We need a proper plan.”
Without saying a word, Lu Er was swept along with them.
Quite literally.
He was walking sandwiched between the three brothers.
Fang Yuan remained seated on the bicycle while Fang Wuhu pushed it.
She was still explaining.
“This is Lu Er from the Lu family. He’s my future husband. Stop talking nonsense.”
She had stolen her own former brother-in-law-to-be, and now family ethics had become involved.
The situation worried Fang Wuhu to death.
How to resolve this peacefully was a serious problem.
Then Fang Sanhu spoke up.
“That spineless Lu Feng actually tolerated something like this?”
They did not blame their sister for snatching someone.
They blamed the brother-in-law for being spineless.
Their loyalties were crystal clear.
By now, Lu Er had basically found his future position.
There definitely would not be any discussion.
He only needed to wait for them to make decisions.
Back when he had investigated the Fang family, he had known Lu Feng would probably suffer some grievances after marrying into this family.
He simply had not known it could reach this level.
It was the kind of despair that made life feel hopeless forever.
He certainly had not expected that one day the situation would fall onto his own head.
Yet Fang Yuan, dense as ever, still failed to explain things clearly.
She even nodded in agreement.
“Don’t mention that Lu Feng. He makes me sick.”
No matter how much Lu Er’s heart trembled with fear, he had to speak now.
Otherwise the misunderstanding would become too great.
This group was completely missing the point.
“The matter is actually like this. My elder brother...”
Looking at his prospective brothers-in-law, he suddenly did not dare continue.
These people were even more unreasonable and domineering than the relatives who had accompanied Li Meng when she broke off the engagement with the Lu family.
Sihu said, “Brother-in-law, don’t be afraid. We know you’ve suffered. We’ll talk this through slowly.”
Sanhu added, “Brother-in-law, don’t worry. Our family is reasonable.”
Lu Er did nothing but hiccup.
For the first time, he discovered that he had inherited something from his father.
Whenever he lacked confidence, he got hiccups.
Fang Yuan finally sensed that something was wrong.
“Suffered what grievance? Lu Feng is a morally rotten piece of trash. Right after you all left, some woman came saying she was pregnant with Lu Feng’s child. Could I possibly marry someone like that?”
Sanhu’s eyes widened as he looked at Lu Er.
“They bullied my family and got away with it? Where are they?”
Lu Er thought, So this is the same man who just said their family was reasonable.
Wuhu grabbed Lu Er by the shirt collar.
“Good! The Lu family actually did something like this. This brat can’t be a good person either. Why are you only coming back now? Did you think we were dead?”
Fang Yuan hurriedly told him to let go of Lu Er.
“What are you acting fierce for? If I came back again, people would say I couldn’t get married. So I just changed husbands.”
Lu Er patted his chest.
Miraculously, he stopped hiccupping.
There was no point expecting reason.
The key issue was that he was in the wrong.
As for throwing punches, there was never going to be a chance for him to act.
He truly recognized how cowardly he was.
Sihu sized Lu Er up.
“This is what their family used to compensate you? They compensated you with a little chick like this?”
As expected of siblings, they shared the same opinion.
Fang Yuan said, “His build isn’t great, but he’ll do for marriage.”
Meanwhile, Wuhu looked at the silent Lu Er.
“I’ve seen you in the township before. Weren’t you a student?”
Lu Er answered cautiously.
“I used to be.”
Wuhu glanced at Lu Er and thought the pretty boy had quite a few tricks up his sleeve.
“Are you going back to school in the future?”
