Chapter 26: Who Will Listen to Whom in the Future
Lu Chuan said, “It’s because Dad and Mom are understanding and care about me that they don’t hold my family’s mess against us.”
Even Fang Dalen had to admit that this son-in-law knew how to handle things.
He had arranged this matter thoroughly. The two sets of parents really should sit down together and talk.
Things that his own family found difficult to bring up, the son-in-law already understood clearly.
No wonder his wife said the son-in-law was full of schemes.
After confirming tomorrow’s visit and completing all the proper courtesies, Lu Chuan finally left the Fang family home with Fang Yuan.
By the time the two of them were on their way home, they had acquired a large new possession. Even halfway down the road, Lu Er still felt it was unreal and asked Fang Yuan behind him, “The bicycle, they really gave it to you?”
Fang Yuan’s tone was not very pleasant. “It’s for the new son-in-law. You have a lot of face. When I got married, my brothers didn’t give me one.”
Fang Yuan was actually a little annoyed.
The son-in-law had changed, but the daughter getting married was still her, so why had the treatment changed too?
Ever since yesterday’s events had developed in such an unbelievable direction, Lu Er had felt as though the sky over his head had never stopped pressing down on him.
But right now, he felt the sky above him had finally cleared, and he could feel a gentle breeze brushing past his ears.
It was not really because of the bicycle, though the bicycle was indeed expensive.
The main thing was his father-in-law’s attitude, which had greatly eased his mood.
The Fang family had acknowledged this marriage. He was tied down for life now. He might feel a little unwilling, but if the Fang family had refused to acknowledge the marriage, that would have been even worse than being tied down.
Lu Chuan had always understood this.
He knew that for things to end with a result like this, the Fang family had truly let the Lu family off the hook.
Especially the fact that his father-in-law and mother-in-law thought highly of him. That made Lu Er particularly happy.
Lu Feng had never received this kind of treatment.
How could his mood not be bright?
At this moment, Lu Chuan truly regarded Fang Yuan as his wife. “Mainly because you have good taste.”
As soon as he said it, his face turned red.
He had never experienced anything like this before and ended up embarrassing himself so much that he became too shy to speak.
Fang Yuan completely failed to notice Lu Er’s bashful mood. “My brother said that when school starts again, he’ll wait at the school gate with the old bicycle and deliver it to that sweetheart of yours.”
Lu Chuan immediately nearly crashed the bicycle again.
“Don’t talk nonsense. That’s a classmate, a male classmate. What sweetheart? What kind of way is that to talk?”
If he did not clear this up now, and rumors spread later, he could forget about having a peaceful life. Those brothers-in-law of his were not decorations.
Fang Yuan was even more domineering than Lu Chuan. “If your relationship with someone isn’t good, would they lend you a bicycle? Isn’t that being close?”
Lu Chuan said, “It’s being close, but not the kind of close you’re talking about. Don’t say things like that in the future.”
Fang Yuan glared at him.
Why was everything so complicated?
Lu Chuan said, “Lu Feng and that woman he was involved with, before they got married, that kind of relationship was what you’d call sweethearts.”
Thinking of the sticky, clingy relationship between Lu Feng and Li Meng, Fang Yuan spat and said, “Bah. I’ll never use that word again. I don’t have a sweetheart either.”
Lu Chuan’s expression mysteriously improved several degrees.
“That’s why I told you not to talk nonsense.”
Fang Yuan was even more overbearing than Lu Chuan. “Can you blame me? You should’ve explained it clearly.”
Lu Chuan pressed his lips together.
This was impossible to explain properly.
“We’re in the relationship we’re in now. Would I still trick you? Considering Mom, Dad, and all our brothers, would I trick you?”
Fang Yuan felt that was believable.
Ever since childhood, no one had dared deceive her. Everyone was afraid of her father and her brothers.
“That I can believe. From now on, I’ll listen to you.”
Lu Chuan nearly lost control of the bicycle again, weaving all over the road.
“Are you serious?”
It sounded so unbelievable.
Fang Yuan frowned and grabbed Lu Er’s waist.
“Do you even know how to ride a bicycle? If you can’t do it, I’ll do it.”
Lu Chuan’s face turned red again.
That phrase about not being able to do it could not be thrown around casually either.
Cough, cough.
“You’ll really listen to me that much?”
Fang Yuan was not stupid either.
“If what you say is right, then I’ll listen to you.”
Lu Chuan did not see anything wrong with that statement.
When he and Fang Yuan were compared together, she clearly believed that he would not be the one making mistakes when it came to brains.
So after summarizing the situation, the household would still be listening to him in the future.
Then he rode the new bicycle home with his new wife.
For some reason, his face carried a trace of excitement.
When he had come here, there had been none of this joy on his face.
After everything that had happened at his father-in-law’s home, Lu Chuan had finally realized that he truly had a wife now.
The kind he could not return.
And accepting it was not nearly as difficult as he had imagined.
When they reached the village entrance, someone with sharp eyes spotted Lu Chuan riding a brand-new bicycle and came over to ask him, “Whose family is so generous that they’d lend out a brand-new bicycle?”
Lu Chuan was a reserved person.
He would never show off something like this and wanted to brush the question aside.
But Fang Yuan behind him had already spoken.
“My brother gave it to me as part of my dowry.”
Then she added, “My brothers felt sorry for Lu Chuan, so they gave it to Lu Chuan.”
The result was that the villagers asked in confusion, “Lu Chuan? Who’s that?”
Fang Yuan was confused too.
What, was there no such person in the village?
Lu Chuan had no choice but to speak.
“Second Uncle, I, I’m Lu Chuan, the second son of the Lu family.”
Then the woman beside him slapped her thigh.
“That’s a nice name. Oh my, no wonder. Your brothers-in-law are really generous.”
Lu Chuan estimated that before dinner time arrived, news that his brothers-in-law had bought him a bicycle would have spread throughout the entire village.
When they got home, Mother Lu was in the courtyard tidying things up.
She looked as though she wanted to wipe down even the straw fence.
The moment she saw Fang Yuan, she hurried over.
“Second Son, Second Daughter-in-law, you’re back. Have you eaten? Mom brought over two steamed buns for you.”
Fang Yuan said, “Mom, why aren’t you inside? Isn’t it hot out in the yard?”
Mother Lu said, “It’s cooler in the yard. Besides, I can tidy the courtyard while I’m at it. You’ve been out all day. You must be tired from being outside.”
Fang Yuan said, “Not really. We ran into my brother and went back home for a visit.”
Even Lu Chuan noticed his mother’s body sway slightly.
Then she carefully asked Fang Yuan, “What did your mother say?”
Fang Yuan said, “My parents said Lu Chuan is pretty good. But the way our family handled this matter wasn’t very good.”
Mother Lu immediately nodded.
“Your mother is right. Tomorrow I’ll personally go and apologize to her.”
Fang Yuan said, “Sure. My dad said we’re relatives from now on, so we should visit each other often.”
Mother Lu felt tremendous pressure.
Fang Dalen was famous throughout the surrounding area for being somewhat unreasonable.
Not to mention that their own family was clearly in the wrong this time.
Lu Chuan said to Mother Lu, “Something this big, even the son-in-law got switched. We have to meet them and explain everything clearly.”
Mother Lu’s expression became solemn, carrying the determination of someone marching bravely toward a righteous sacrifice.
“I understand. Your father and I are prepared.”
Only then did she notice the new bicycle her son was pushing.
She reached out and touched it.
“Borrowed?”
Lu Chuan looked a little embarrassed.
Cough, cough.
“My eldest brother-in-law gave it as part of the dowry.”
Mother Lu’s eyes widened.
“So generous.”
Then she added, “The in-laws really do love their daughter.”
Her thoughts went in a circle.
The eldest son had been replaced by the second son, yet the Fang family’s attitude remained so good.
They had given face to the Lu family.
Of course, they were also indirectly looking down on her eldest son.
Fang Yuan added, “My brother feels sorry for Lu Chuan. If it were for me, he would’ve given it yesterday.”
