Chapter 85: “The Travel Inn”

Irene immediately noticed the form in front of Yu Sheng and rushed over excitedly.

“So we’re forming an organization!” For some reason, she seemed even more excited than Yu Sheng himself. “Have you thought of a name yet? Something that sounds powerful and mysterious, the kind of name that gets you business just by hearing it…”

“A name… I’ve thought of a few,” Yu Sheng said, holding the pen while thinking. “Have you got any ideas?”

“Irene Vanguard Squad!”

Yu Sheng immediately turned to the fox girl instead. “What do you think we should call it?”

Irene bounced up and down. “Hey! Don’t ignore me! What’s wrong with Vanguard Squad? Small teams can’t be called Vanguard?”

Hu Li looked at the jumping doll, then at Yu Sheng, then at the form on the table. After thinking for a long time, she spoke cautiously.

“I don’t really understand this… can we call it ‘A Loving Family Together’…?”

Yu Sheng’s face went completely blank.

Irene almost jumped onto his face. “That’s even worse than mine! You might as well listen to that silly fox instead of—”

Yu Sheng sighed. He decided he could not rely on either of these two troublemakers, so he picked up the pen and wrote the name he had already decided on.

Travel Inn.

Irene immediately stretched her neck to look. After seeing the two characters, she froze.

“Travel Inn? That’s the name? Why? It feels kind of weird…”

Yu Sheng had to push her doll head aside.

“It’s because of my door.”

The doll was pushed aside, crossed her arms, and thought for a moment. She seemed to gradually understand.

Those doors leading to distant places, those unbelievable landscapes, and the “place” Yu Sheng had always been trying to find.

“So it’s about being on the road…” Irene murmured softly, then after a moment of quiet immediately started talking nonsense again. “Then you should add my element too, put ‘doll’ in front, and add that silly fox’s element too, like her tail. Then it would be called ‘Doll Tail Travel Inn’… fine, fine, don’t glare at me.”

Yu Sheng sighed but was already used to her nonsense, so he ignored her and finished filling out the remaining sections.

In the section for initial team members, he carefully wrote down Irene and Hu Li’s names.

“The ID number field can be left blank for now,” Ren Wenwen said, glancing at his progress. She pointed at the portable card printer on the table. “The chip cards are already inside. Once the data comes through in a few minutes, they’ll activate. For now, just fill in their basic personal information.”

Yu Sheng responded with an “oh,” hesitating for a couple of seconds before looking at Irene and Hu Li.

“What’s your education level?”

Irene immediately crossed her arms and raised her head proudly.

“Dolls don’t need school! Dolls receive ancient knowledge directly from the Ancestor of Dolls during creation, and then we share experiences through the connections established by Alice’s Garden!”

Hu Li hesitated slightly, looking a bit embarrassed.

“I… was still in primary school when something happened…”

Yu Sheng stared blankly for a long time, as if suddenly realizing a cold and cruel reality. The ambition and expectations he had been building for this organization seemed to collapse in slow motion.

After half a minute, he finally sighed and wrote two entries for the founding team members of “Travel Inn” that would surely shock the industry.

One: prenatal education. One: primary school dropout.

Ren Wenwen tried to comfort him.

“You don’t need to mind it. Species differences are complicated. Many species’ education systems are incompatible with the Boundary Zone, and their academic records aren’t even mutually recognized. This field is mostly for reference…”

“In normal circumstances, organizations registered in the Boundary Zone should be ‘local people,’ right?” Yu Sheng glanced at her. “You don’t need to comfort me.”

Ren Wenwen froze, as if wanting to say more. But at that moment, the portable card printer on the table emitted a series of buzzing sounds.

“Oh, the ID data is coming through.”

A moment later, Hu Li and Irene finally received their identity cards.

Two plastic cards that looked almost identical to ordinary ID cards.

“I think this photo is ugly,” Irene said, holding the card that was slightly large for her, flipping it back and forth. “Do your photographers go through special training? Everyone ends up looking so grim. Also, you changed my eye color…”

“That’s to ensure the card is universally usable,” Ren Wenwen replied casually while organizing the forms. “Although you probably won’t use it much anyway. Look, Miss Hu Li has no objections.”

“I think it’s great,” Hu Li nodded repeatedly. She carefully tucked her ID card into her tail, then looked at Yu Sheng with a happy smile.

“Thank you, benefactor, for helping me with everything.”

Yu Sheng smiled and said nothing. He just reached out to ruffle her hair and scratch the fur behind her ears.

Hu Li liked this very much. She narrowed her eyes, clearly enjoying it.

“Then the registration process is complete,” Ren Wenwen said, packing things up as she stood. “The official license cannot be produced on-site. It will be delivered to you in a couple of days. There is also one more thing for you.”

She reached into her seemingly bottomless backpack again and pulled something out, handing it to Yu Sheng.

It was a brand-new mobile phone.

Yu Sheng looked at it in surprise and did not immediately take it.

“Why?”

“It’s a special device,” she explained. “It has a pre-installed intelligence-sharing and communication platform built by the Special Operations Bureau. It can also activate support nodes throughout the Boundary Zone. It includes other auxiliary functions, such as maintaining communication under harsh conditions, or locating the nearest contact station outside the Boundary Zone in areas managed by the Bureau. If you have encountered other ‘spirit-world investigators,’ you should have seen similar devices. It is not the same as a normal phone.”

Yu Sheng blinked, suddenly recalling Little Red Riding Hood’s phone.

The design did look somewhat similar.

He hesitated. “This… is free?”

“It’s paid, though reasonably priced,” Ren Wenwen smiled. “But you don’t need to worry about that. This is a personal gift from the director.”

Yu Sheng finally took it, still slightly surprised.

“Director Baili Qing gave this? Is that appropriate?”

“You resolved the entity entrenched in Nightfall Valley, and safely brought two Special Operations Bureau operatives and one spirit-world investigator back to reality. This gift is only a small token of thanks,” Ren Wenwen said seriously. “Before I came, the director and our team leader also instructed me that if you need anything later, you can directly contact the bureau. Especially in daily life, if you encounter difficulties due to ‘supernatural reasons,’ you must contact us. Do not worry about causing trouble.”

Yu Sheng listened, somewhat dazed, and gave a couple of vague acknowledgments. The tone of care made him feel slightly strange, though he could not pinpoint why.

After a moment, noticing she still had no intention of leaving, he asked, “Is there anything else?”

Ren Wenwen opened her mouth, clearly hesitant. She seemed to have something she wanted to say but struggled to get it out.

“Just say it,” Yu Sheng said with a smile. “If it’s something from the Bureau, I’ll try to cooperate. You’ve helped me a lot.”

“It’s not from the Bureau… it’s personal,” she finally gathered courage. The earlier efficiency she showed during registration had completely vanished. “I just want to confirm, did you write The Blizzard Mystery Case?”

Yu Sheng froze for a moment, then reacted.

“Yes, I wrote it. You are…”

The staff member’s face immediately lit up.

“I, I’ve read your work! A lot of it! On my phone!”

Yu Sheng immediately straightened up and turned toward Irene.

“What did I say! See? What did I say? I told you I am—”

Before he could finish, Ren Wenwen had already pulled out a notebook with lightning speed and thrust it in front of him like she was about to stab him.

“Could you please sign this?”

Yu Sheng happily took the notebook and pen.

“No problem, no problem…”

“This is amazing! When I first saw it in the files, I couldn’t believe it! I even recommended your work to my team leader, but he said he couldn’t understand it…” she said excitedly. “I especially love the character ‘Lin Qi’ you wrote. I really ship him with ‘Night Blade’…”

Yu Sheng: “…”

His signing hand started to tremble.
