Chapter 103: When a Former Roommate Gains Freedom with a Car and House

At noon, everyone stayed put and had lunch at the Porsche Center.

Four dishes and a soup: broccoli, chicken wings, okra, large prawns, plus corn ribs, and a plate of fruit for dessert. It wasn’t exactly a feast, but far better than the typical light meals at most 4S dealerships.

Bei Wei scrolled through her phone while eating, a smile occasionally flashing across her face.

“What are you looking at?” Zhang Yang asked curiously.

Bei Wei handed her phone over.

Zhang Yang took it and glanced through it, seeing her social media filled with likes and comments. After all, picking up a Panamera was still a shocking event.

“Picked up a car? A Panamera? Your boyfriend bought it? My god!”

“No way… there really are rich guys who can give their girlfriend a Panamera? Is your boyfriend really that wealthy?”

“How much did it cost? I’ve been dreaming of keeping it to just a 911, and in one blink, you’re getting a Panamera in real life?”

“Congratulations!”

“Wow… just envy and jealousy left.”

Zhang Yang casually scanned the posts-shock, congratulations, surprise, and of course, plenty of envy. A few thousand yuan for cosmetics or a phone might get people whining, but this was a nearly two-million-yuan Porsche Panamera. Naturally, everyone could only stare in admiration; none of them had a boyfriend who could casually give away a car like this.

“By the way, when is your uncle arriving in Shanghai? Has it been confirmed?” Zhang Yang returned the phone to Bei Wei and asked.

“Should I ask?” Bei Wei said softly. She wanted more than anyone to show off her boyfriend to her close family.

“Go ahead,” Zhang Yang smiled. “Once you know, I can make arrangements ahead of time.”

Bei Wei dialed her father.

“Dad, when exactly will you arrive in Shanghai?”

“No reason, just checking… Zhang Yang wants to take you out for a meal.”

“Arriving tomorrow midnight? Got it.”

After the call, Bei Wei explained, “Dad’s arriving tomorrow midnight. I’m guessing he’ll be in Shanghai early, but probably has plans in the evening, maybe a dinner with his company clients. Hotels and everything are already booked.”

“Then let’s schedule a lunch the day after tomorrow. If your dad and his boss are available, they can join too,” Zhang Yang suggested.

“Okay… I’ll ask my dad,” Bei Wei nodded.

After lunch, all formalities were done, and the Panamera keys were handed to Bei Wei.

“Let’s go get you a bag,” Zhang Yang said, keeping his word.

“Then I… I’ll ride in my sister’s car,” Bei Jiajia said. She had hoped to finally sit in the front passenger seat of the Cullinan, but decided it was better to be careful. Even though her brother-in-law was handsome, boundaries were necessary.

In the afternoon, outside the Porsche Center, Bei Wei pressed her lips together, looking at the iridescent Panamera, her eyes flashing with excitement.

“Go ahead, drive your car. What are you waiting for?” Zhang Yang teased.

“Mm!” Bei Wei kissed him on the cheek, then got into the car silently. Bei Jiajia entered the passenger seat beside her.

Zhang Yang smiled as he watched the sisters settle in, then went to his own Cullinan.

The bag-shopping process was straightforward. At a nearby Hermès store, Bei Jiajia knew exactly which style she wanted and was an established customer, so there was no wait for stock. Zhang Yang waved his hand, casually handing over 80,000 yuan.

Bei Jiajia clutched the bag, her excitement impossible to hide.

“This morning I posted about my sister getting her car, and some classmates teased me, asking what it had to do with me. Hmph, I’ll show them,” she said, ready to post the bag photo to her social media.

Zhang Yang chuckled, checking the time-it was already three or four o’clock.

“Zhang Yang, I need to go back to my apartment tonight and pack some things,” Bei Wei said, playfully hooking her arm around his neck.

“Alright, take your time,” Zhang Yang nodded.

Soon, the two cars split ways: Zhang Yang drove the Cullinan straight home, while Bei Wei took her new Panamera with Bei Jiajia, heading to her apartment.

In the evening, after dropping Bei Jiajia off, Bei Wei parked the Panamera and saw a couple getting out of a nearby Maybach-Gu Jianni was with them.

“Bei Wei?” Gu Jianni looked at the new car in disbelief, then at Bei Wei with flushed cheeks.

“Hi, Jianni,” Bei Wei said, nodding to the couple. “Hello, Uncle, Auntie.”

She remembered that they were Gu Jianni’s parents, her father a moderately successful businessman.

“This… is your new car?” Gu Jianni asked, curiosity written all over her face.

“It’s Zhang Yang who bought it for me,” Bei Wei admitted shyly.

Posting it on social media was one thing, but facing Gu Jianni’s questioning and her parents’ curious looks made Bei Wei a little embarrassed.

“Zhang Yang… bought you a Panamera?!” Gu Jianni’s tone was incredulous.

Even knowing Zhang Yang had money-he had previously driven a Bentley-buying a nearly two-million-yuan car for his girlfriend was on another level. Gu Jianni’s father also glanced over, astonished. Handing a Porsche to a girlfriend so casually was unimaginable.

“Jianni, I’m planning to move out,” Bei Wei explained. “I… want to settle into my own place.”

“Move out? I suspected this,” Gu Jianni sighed lightly, unsurprised. Bei Wei had been coming back occasionally; apparently, she’d been staying at Zhang Yang’s apartment.

“Dad, Mom, we’ll head back first. You two go upstairs, Bei Wei,” Gu Jianni’s father said with a friendly smile, leaving first.

As soon as they left, Gu Jianni couldn’t help but bombard Bei Wei with questions.

“Let’s go out for dinner tonight. It’s been a while since we had a proper chat, and we might not get many chances later,” she said reluctantly.

“Sure, I’ll treat,” Bei Wei offered.

That evening, they went to a hot pot restaurant near the apartment, eating and chatting.

“Zhang Yang is so generous with you-you’re lucky. So, do you two live in his apartment now?” Gu Jianni asked while dipping lamb slices.

“He doesn’t come often. He bought a place,” Bei Wei replied between bites.

“Bought a place?! Recently?” Gu Jianni raised her eyebrows in surprise. “Zhang Yang doesn’t do small-scale things. Where?”

“Uh…” Bei Wei was about to answer, but Gu Jianni stopped her.

“Wait, let me guess, so I won’t be too shocked. You know me, I can’t handle surprises,” Gu Jianni said jokingly.

“Okay…” Bei Wei sipped her plum juice and nodded.

“Let me guess… it can’t be Tomson Riviera, right?” Gu Jianni blurted out, naming one of the most famous high-end residences.

Her thinking was simple: guessing too low would be embarrassing if she got shocked; guessing the top-known luxury would keep her composed regardless.

“Nope,” Bei Wei shook her head.

“Noted,” Gu Jianni laughed. Tomson Riviera cost hundreds of millions-Zhang Yang, no matter how wealthy, wouldn’t buy there. Such a top-tier residence wouldn’t be coincidental for her to encounter.

“It’s next to Tomson, at COFCO Seaview No. 1,” Bei Wei said with a playful gleam.

“WHAT? COFCO?” Gu Jianni’s heart skipped. Seeing Bei Wei’s knowing smile, she immediately understood. “Bei Wei! Playing reality-level PIAPIA, huh?”

She laughed and lightly tapped Bei Wei.

A moment later, Gu Jianni’s expression was complex. “I never imagined you’d meet a boyfriend like this.”

Living next to Tomson, driving a Bentley and a Cullinan, casually gifting a Panamera-urban novels with modest imagination might not even dare write this.

“I didn’t go after Zhang Yang for his money; I like him for who he is,” Bei Wei gently defended herself.

“You…” Gu Jianni’s chest rose slightly with exasperation.

“You carry Louis Vuitton, wear Chanel, wear Bulgari jewelry, drive a nearly two-million-yuan Panamera, and then tell me you’re not after money, only the person. Don’t you think that’s a bit… Versailles?”

Bei Wei looked at Gu Jianni meekly.

“Hmph, speechless now, huh? Well, Zhang Yang is handsome enough, so saying you like him for who he is still kind of makes sense,” Gu Jianni said with a laugh. “Alright, make sure you hold onto him. Look, you’ve got a car now-soon enough, in Shanghai, you might be part of the car-and-house club too.”

“Actually…” Bei Wei hesitated, unsure if she should say it.

“What?” Gu Jianni paused, staring at Bei Wei, her heart suddenly racing without warning.

“The house… it’s already picked out,” Bei Wei said.

Gu Jianni drained her drink in one gulp, staring blankly at Bei Wei, unable to speak a word.

After a long moment, she finally managed to speak, word by word.

“Good sister, this time, tell me at once-where is it?” She was out of breath, startling Bei Wei.

“I just saw it today, at Cuihu Tiandi. Tomorrow… the day after, we’ll go sign the contract,” Bei Wei said, blinking gently.

“How much?” Gu Jianni pressed, unwilling to give up.

“Twenty… twenty-seven million.”

Gu Jianni, a tall and elegant woman, slumped powerless into her seat, eyes vacant as she stared at Bei Wei.

What was this?

Not long ago, Bei Wei was living in her apartment, using bags that cost only a few thousand yuan at most.

Now? Overnight, her once-struggling friend had suddenly gained freedom with a car and a house.

The shock and thrill were intense, and the envy stung like acid.

“I’ll pay!” Gu Jianni suddenly exclaimed. They had agreed that Bei Wei would treat tonight, but now, as if waking from a dream, she rose to her full height.

After dinner, sitting in the Panamera’s front passenger seat, Gu Jianni looked at Bei Wei’s sweet, obedient face at the wheel and suddenly recalled a year or two ago.

When they first shared the apartment, Bei Wei scrimped and saved, always careful not to inconvenience her. Even though rent was covered, Bei Wei spent on miscellaneous household expenses and small things, occasionally cooking a meal.

Back then, Gu Jianni often wondered what kind of man could ever win someone as wonderful as Bei Wei.

Now, the answer was clear.

The girl she had cherished in her heart had indeed found the most outstanding man. At this moment, all she felt was genuine blessing.

“What are you looking at?” Bei Wei noticed Gu Jianni’s gaze and asked with a smile.

“Looking at you, trying to take it all in. Soon you’ll belong to someone else, and looking at Zhang Yang now might kill me,” Gu Jianni said, leaning back in her seat, her eyes focused.

“Ew, that’s so cheesy. Are you sure your orientation’s right?” Bei Wei shivered slightly.

“You just noticed? Too late!” Gu Jianni arched her brows and laughed.

Inside the car, laughter and chatter continued.

Meanwhile, at COFCO Seaview No. 1, Zhang Yang was on the phone with his father.

“Dad, no need to ask. I’ve been making good money from opening franchise stores. In a few days I’ll go back and finalize expanding our family stores. Oh, and there’s the hiring to handle too.”

“Don’t worry, son. When has your dad ever tried to show off recklessly? I admit I overdid it a bit at the start of this new store, but realized it wasn’t right and didn’t push it. Don’t worry, hiring is covered!” Zhang Zhaohai patted his chest confidently.

“Alright, we’ll talk when I’m back,” Zhang Yang ended the call, stepping onto the balcony to feel the breeze from the Huangpu River, his mood light.

Once Bei Wei’s house matters were settled in the next couple of days and the cashback in hand, he’d go back to finalize expanding his parents’ small restaurant.

Ideally, he’d also pick out a villa for them and start renovations.

When the timing was right, he’d surprise them.
