Chapter 135: Playing Matchmaker
Le Yue went on and on with her praise.
“Sis, that’s basically the situation. Although in terms of status they’re not on the same level, the guy makes up for it in other ways. Anyway, I think he’s quite suitable for you.”
Le Man remained unmoved and shook her head with an amused smile.
“Sis, you said yourself you’re starting over. Shouldn’t you flirt with handsome guys-whether they’re tough guys or cute younger types? Otherwise it’d be such a waste. Why is it only allowed for him to fly off with his crush?” Le Yue protested.
“For now I don’t have that kind of thought. Who rushes to find the next one right after getting divorced?” Le Man said.
“Sis, that was just a contractual marriage anyway. Aside from being listed as divorced, how are you any different from someone who’s never been married?” Le Yue grabbed her sister’s arm. “How about this-next time I go shopping with Song Yumeng, you come along too and meet him while you’re at it.”
Le Man opened her mouth but hadn’t spoken yet.
“Don’t worry, sis. I’ll tell Song Yumeng not to mention it to her brother for now. You can meet him first. If you feel something after seeing him, then we’ll talk about it. If not, this stays between us.” Le Yue said with a smile.
“Alright, you’re really enthusiastic.” Le Man nodded helplessly.
“How can I not be enthusiastic? You’re a multimillionaire now and you’re so beautiful-you should hurry up.” Le Yue laughed.
In the afternoon, Le Yue dragged Le Man out of the house and began the transformation journey.
“Actually, sis, your long straight black hair looks great. It might even be some other guy’s crush hairstyle. Are you sure you want to change it?” Le Yue felt a bit regretful seeing that the first stop was a hair salon.
“No matter how nice it looks, it’s not the real me. Change it.” Le Man said without hesitation.
Inside the hair design studio, Le Man had a detailed discussion with the stylist.
Changing the hairstyle was certain, but it didn’t mean completely changing her overall style-for example, suddenly going from elegant and refined to a hot and bold style.
That contrast would be too drastic.
Even while maintaining her original style, Le Man would look beautiful with any hairstyle.
“How about trying French bangs?” the stylist suggested somewhat regretfully.
The long straight black hair in front of him looked exactly like the first-love goddess he imagined in his mind, but since the beauty insisted on changing it, he could only follow the customer’s wishes.
“Will it look good? Let me see the effect.” Le Man asked for a preview.
Soon the preview image appeared.
The hairstyle looked relaxed and comfortable, gentle and elegant. It did seem quite nice.
“Alright, let’s go with this.” Le Man agreed without hesitation.
Throughout the entire afternoon, Le Man underwent a transformation.
Her crush long straight black hair became a honey-brown French bangs hairstyle. Not only did her elegance remain, but her gentleness seemed to double.
Everyone in the studio turned their heads to look.
“She’s so beautiful.”
“Dear, do you think I should get this hairstyle too?”
Le Yue stood beside her sister, completely turning into a fangirl. “Such a waste! My former brother-in-law really wasted such a treasure.”
Le Man rolled her eyes lightly at her sister, then stood up and turned in front of the mirror.
“Miss, here are the photos.” The stylist proudly handed over photos taken from other angles for Le Man to admire.
“Not bad.” Le Man nodded in satisfaction.
Looking at herself in the mirror, she appeared elegant, gentle, and much younger, with a strong youthful charm.
If she told people she had just gotten divorced, who would believe it?
“Come on, let’s change into some new clothes.” Le Man turned to Le Yue and smiled.
Soon after, inside a Gucci store in the mall.
Le Man tried on a short dress while the sales assistant and Le Yue kept praising her.
“Sis, those long legs of yours would be wasted if you didn’t wear short skirts. How did you endure these past few years?” Le Yue couldn’t help saying.
Le Man held a faint smile but didn’t respond. She simply looked at herself in the mirror, her expression slightly dazed.
This was who she truly was.
Beauty blooming only for herself, not just becoming someone else’s shadow out of one-sided devotion.
“Alright, thank you. I’ll take this one.” She nodded.
Then she looked at Le Yue. “Do you want something too? I can buy you an outfit.”
“No, no. It’s too expensive.” Le Yue glanced at the price-over thirty thousand-and quickly waved her hands.
“Don’t be polite. Like you said, your sister is a rich woman now.” Le Man smiled and dragged Le Yue to pick out clothes.
In the evening, the two sisters found a restaurant and had dinner.
Le Yue looked at her sister across the table and sighed endlessly.
“Sis, if you appeared in front of Song Yumeng’s brother dressed like this, wouldn’t he be completely captivated?”
“Just eat your food.” Le Man smiled lightly.
Watching Le Yue enthusiastically chatting with her roommate and arranging the shopping plan for tomorrow, she didn’t pay it much attention.
She simply treated it as cooperating with Le Yue.
“Sis, I’ve arranged it. Tomorrow morning.” After a while, Le Yue excitedly looked up. “Song Yumeng will come with her cousin. We’ll just meet up with them then.”
“Got it.” Le Man nodded.
Just then, her phone suddenly rang.
Le Man glanced at it, and her expression changed slightly.
“Is it him?” Le Yue whispered.
“Don’t speak.” Le Man gestured gently and answered the call. “Hello?”
A low male voice came from the other end.
“You mailed the diamond ring and those things back?”
“Yes. I don’t need them anymore.” Le Man said lightly. “Check them when you receive them.”
“I don’t need them either. You could’ve kept them or thrown them away. There was no need to send them back.” The voice sounded slightly displeased. “By the way, I want to ask you something.”
“What is it?” Le Man asked.
“That dish you used to cook at home-how do you make it again? Tell me the steps. No matter how I cook it, it never tastes the same.” he asked.
“That’s it? It’s not difficult.” Le Man couldn’t help laughing and explained the steps.
After a long time, the other end remained silent. It was unclear whether he was even listening.
“Got it?” Le Man asked.
“What nonsense. I’m hanging up.” The man sounded impatient and immediately ended the call.
Le Man shook her head slightly and put down her phone.
“Sis, what was it about?” Le Yue asked tentatively.
“Nothing. He just asked how to cook a dish.” Le Man said casually.
Le Yue blinked but said nothing.
She was reminded of common tropes in romance novels-after the heroine leaves decisively, the hero realizes that every part of his life is already filled with her presence. Only then does he realize he can’t live without her. In the end, there’s endless emotional entanglement, chasing after her again, and all sorts of sweet, sugary scenes.
It seemed cliché, yet strangely reasonable.
“What are you thinking about?” Seeing Le Yue’s expression, Le Man tapped her lightly on the head. “You’re not thinking he only realized my value after losing me and now can’t live without me, are you?”
“Isn’t that the case?” Le Yue asked weakly.
“It’s true I could never warm his heart. It’s also true his heart always belonged to someone else.” Le Man shook her head. “He won’t change his mind. At most he’s just used to my presence. Suddenly losing me probably just feels unfamiliar.”
Le Yue was instantly delighted.
Her sister was truly clear-headed. After finally escaping that pit, how could she fall back into it? It seemed those three years had indeed made her see many things clearly.
“As long as we’re not following that cliché, haha.” Le Yue laughed out loud.
“What cliché?” Le Man asked curiously.
“Nothing, nothing.” Le Yue quickly waved her hands.
After dinner, the two sisters walked among the bustling crowds along the Bund. Looking at Lujiazui across the Huangpu River and feeling the prosperity of Shanghai, they both felt a little emotional.
“Sis, do you think the people living over there must be really optimistic?” Le Yue waved toward Lujiazui. “Those people living in luxury apartments looking down at us-do you think they see us like ants?”
“Not even ants. At most they’d just see a dark mass of people.” Le Man laughed and rubbed Le Yue’s hair.
“Ah? Then we’re too tiny. Wouldn’t that make us like bacteria?” Le Yue clicked her tongue.
She looked across the river at the brightly lit apartments, wondering whether someone over there might also be looking in her direction at this moment.
At that moment, someone actually was looking across.
Inside COFCO Seaview No. 1, Zhang Yang had spent the afternoon accompanying his little cousin shopping. After dinner, he had just sent Song Yumeng back to the hotel.
By the time he returned home, he had just finished showering.
“Brother, the night view from this hotel room is amazing!” Song Yumeng sent him a message on WeChat.
“Really?” Zhang Yang replied, standing on the balcony and looking at the dazzling Bund across the river. He felt the view from his angle was even better.
The key point was that his view was unique-belonging only to him.
“By the way, come pick me up early tomorrow. You know, Le Yue is coming to shop with me tomorrow.” Song Yumeng sent another message.
“Got it.” Zhang Yang replied.
After all, she was his cousin who had grown up with him since childhood. Not a real sister, but closer than one.
This time, Song Yumeng planned to stay in Shanghai for several days. He had deliberately pushed aside other matters to spend these days accompanying his little cousin and showing her around.
“Oh right, there will be a surprise tomorrow.” Song Yumeng suddenly added.
“A surprise? What surprise?” Zhang Yang asked.
“Haha, it’s a secret for now. You’ll know when you get here tomorrow.” Song Yumeng said mysteriously.
“Fine, if you won’t say it, then forget it.” Zhang Yang wasn’t the type to be endlessly curious. If Song Yumeng didn’t want to say, he wouldn’t keep asking. “I’m hanging up. Get some rest tonight. If you go out, be careful.”
“Don’t worry, bro. Do I look like someone who doesn’t know my limits?” Song Yumeng sent a string of emojis.
After ending the chat, Zhang Yang put down his phone and went straight to take a shower.
Was he not busy?
In fact, he was very busy.
Not to mention anything else-every day there were many messages on his phone that needed replies.
Before going to sleep, he video-called Bei Wei and chatted for quite a while.
In the video background, Bei Wei was in the new house. She had just finished showering, her face still flushed from the bath.
“Husband, want to come over?” She leaned closer to the screen, speaking with a hint of temptation.
“Daring to tease me?” Zhang Yang glanced at the patch of fair skin visible beneath the towel wrapped around the sweet girl’s chest, feeling a little stirred.
But having just finished his own shower, his whole body felt relaxed, and he really didn’t feel like moving.
“Forget it, another day.”
“Then I’ll give you a kiss.” Bei Wei’s eyes were gentle as she leaned close to the screen and made a kissing sound.
“You kiss me too.”
“Huh? That’s way too mushy.” Zhang Yang wasn’t about to do something that cheesy.
Late at night, neither of them knew how long they had talked. Sleepiness eventually crept in, and they finally said goodnight to each other.
Early the next morning, Zhang Yang got up bright and early and headed straight to the W Hotel at the Bund to pick up his little cousin.
In the hotel lobby, Song Yumeng walked out wearing a cool spaghetti-strap top, her whole aura filled with youthful girlhood energy.
“Brother!” She walked up brightly and affectionately wrapped her arm around Zhang Yang’s.
“How did you sleep last night?” Zhang Yang asked with a smile, rubbing his little cousin’s hair.
“I slept late, but I’m full of energy. Especially when I woke up this morning and saw Lujiazui right outside-that feeling was amazing.” Song Yumeng stretched slightly, tilting her little face upward as if still savoring it.
“I really wish I could wake up to Shanghai’s skyline every day.”
“If you really saw it every day, you wouldn’t say that.” Zhang Yang said with a laugh.
“I would. I’d never get tired of it no matter how many times I saw it.” Song Yumeng replied without hesitation.
They didn’t go far for breakfast and simply ate at the W Hotel. After breakfast, they strolled around for a bit before heading straight to Plaza 66 to meet up with Le Yue.
“Brother, Le Yue is just ahead.”
Inside the mall, Song Yumeng said while pulling Zhang Yang along.
“Wait. Didn’t you say yesterday that you had some kind of surprise for me?” Zhang Yang stopped where he stood, letting his little cousin tug at him without moving.
“Come on, brother. Didn’t I say you’d know once you saw Le Yue?” Song Yumeng turned back. The pretty girl now had a somewhat mischievous smile.
“Le Yue? What kind of surprise could there be from seeing your roommate?” Zhang Yang was puzzled.
“Le Yue’s sister is coming too. She’s a big beauty.” Song Yumeng finally couldn’t hold it in and said it.
“So that’s the surprise?” Zhang Yang shook his head.
Beautiful women were everywhere. To him now, they were no longer anything rare. Only the kind who could provide emotional value, combining beauty and intelligence, were somewhat rare.
“No way…” Seeing her cousin’s reaction, Song Yumeng didn’t dare say the rest.
For example, that beautiful sister had actually just gotten divorced.
As for Le Yue’s explanations-things like the marriage being unconsummated-those were just things to hear and forget. She definitely wouldn’t bring them up.
“Alright, let’s go.” Zhang Yang patted Song Yumeng.
“Okay.” Song Yumeng obediently responded.
Inside a café on the first floor, the two pushed the door open and entered.
Before Song Yumeng even found anyone, Zhang Yang spotted Le Yue at a glance.
Across from Le Yue, he saw the back of someone with brown hair. The figure looked slender and refined.
Just as he noticed Le Yue, she noticed him as well.
Immediately, Le Yue stood up with a bright smile and waved toward him from afar.
“Brother Zhang Yang!”
