Chapter 57: A Smile upon Meeting
The bustling noise of the crowd reached them as colleagues streamed in groups of three or five.
The two exchanged a smile and naturally separated, already in sync.
“Zhang Yang, you’ve been leaving work fast lately,” Sister Wang teased as she walked over. “Bei Wei, leaving so early-your boyfriend waiting for you downstairs?”
Bei Wei pressed her lips into a smile, sneaking a glance at Zhang Yang.
“Sister Wang, who said I have a boyfriend?”
“No way. The one chasing you hasn’t even made it official yet? Driving a Porsche, bringing you afternoon tea, and you still need to investigate him?” Sister Wang was surprised.
“I think it’s better to know someone thoroughly first,” Bei Wei replied with a private joke only Zhang Yang would understand.
“You mean someone nearby?” Sister Wang laughed, glancing at Zhang Yang. “Zhang Yang, did you hear that? Bei Wei wants to know someone thoroughly, and you happen to be single-why not give it a try?”
Bei Wei looked at Zhang Yang, stifling a giggle.
The elevator doors opened just then. Amid laughter and teasing, everyone flowed out.
In the company parking lot, Zhang Yang had barely settled into the car when Bei Wei climbed into the passenger seat, offering a warm kiss.
“Hi, my thoroughly-known boyfriend.”
“You mean thoroughly-known with an implication?” Zhang Yang teased, feeling the sweet warmth of her breath and reaching out gently.
It had been a few days-Bei Wei now seemed fully recovered.
After a while, her hair was messy, cheeks flushed. Zhang Yang, calm in the driver’s seat, started the Bentley.
He planned to first take it to a nearby car wash, then grab a bite to eat with Bei Wei.
The car wash near the company was busy, cars coming and going.
Zhang Yang parked the Bentley at the edge to glance around-every bay was occupied with washing, tinting, or maintenance.
“Sir, the car ahead will be done soon, please wait a moment,” a young attendant of about eighteen or nineteen ran over, gesturing to the other staff to speed up.
“All right, hurry up,” Zhang Yang nodded, unconcerned. With Bei Wei in the passenger seat, they chatted, and time passed quickly.
“Brother Zhang, isn’t that… our former boss?” Bei Wei, lying in Zhang Yang’s arms, suddenly pointed outside in surprise.
“Where?” Zhang Yang followed her gaze, slightly startled.
Not far off, next to a brand-new Bentley, a familiar figure stood proud and confident-it was none other than the former boss, Song Mingyang.
“So it really is him. Looks like the company sold for a good price-already upgraded to a Bentley,” Zhang Yang laughed.
The company sold in the morning, Bentley delivered in the afternoon-Song Mingyang hadn’t skimped on himself at all.
“Stay here, I’ll go say hello,” Zhang Yang said, opening the door and stepping out.
“President Song, what a coincidence!” he smiled at Song Mingyang, who was communicating with attendants nearby.
Song Mingyang’s eyes widened at the figure stepping out of the Bentley Continental GT.
“Zhang Yang?”
The car door beside him opened gently, and long-haired Bei Wei got out as well.
Song Mingyang looked at the confident Zhang Yang, the Bentley GT, the former company employees, and the goddess-like Bei Wei-so many male colleagues’ admiration-and suddenly everything clicked in his mind.
“Zhang Yang! I never expected this! Ahahaha!”
In this large company, no one had noticed Zhang Yang’s depth. Quietly and completely, he had even taken Bei Wei away from the company unnoticed.
“Here, have a smoke,” Song Mingyang said, handing Zhang Yang a fine cigarette.
This person was no longer just a former employee-he was now a mysterious young man in a five-million-yuan Bentley, low-profile yet unfathomable.
Having started from nothing, Zhang Yang had seen and experienced a lot. Now, seated confidently in a Bentley, his aura completely unmasked, Song Mingyang felt an impulse to meet him as an equal.
Zhang Yang took the cigarette, and before he could react, Song Mingyang offered a lighter.
For a moment, the world felt unpredictable.
A former boss lighting a cigarette for you-life truly was full of surprises.
“President Song, you’re too polite,” Zhang Yang said with a laugh.
“Don’t call me President Song, just Song Mingyang,” Song Mingyang said, patting his chest.
Former boss and former employee, meeting by chance today, they smoked together, watching the comings and goings of cars, eventually sharing a quiet smile.
“By the way, do you plan to stay with the company?” Song Mingyang asked, smiling at Zhang Yang.
“Casual, in and out as I please,” Zhang Yang said casually.
“You little rascal, I’d heard about your frequent leave, thought I’d turn a blind eye, and now I know why,” Song Mingyang shook his head in amusement.
“By the way, heads up-the new boss doesn’t tolerate nonsense. Also, my HR and finance staff have been replaced. The new people are sent by the group-they’ll be reorganizing the company.”
Zhang Yang took a few casual puffs, nodding indifferently.
Song Mingyang shook his head with a smile.
“Never mind, saying this is pointless. For you, this job was just a way to pass time anyway.”
After some small talk, Zhang Yang couldn’t help but ask how much Song Mingyang sold the company for.
“I can tell you,” Song Mingyang gestured.
“Fifty million?” Zhang Yang realized.
No wonder Song Mingyang was so elated. For this ad company’s current operations, it was clearly a premium sale.
With fifty million cash and all the profit since the company’s founding, Song Mingyang could retire in comfort.
“See, I have a car in Shanghai, a house, tens of millions in cash. Why would I keep working myself to death?” Song Mingyang said, radiant with excitement.
His goal had always been to make money, never to grow the company bigger.
Now a group willing to pay in full for Mingyang Advertising-he couldn’t be happier. And the company itself achieved a perfect conclusion.
Just then, a car finished washing nearby. Zhang Yang waved casually, going to move the car into position.
Encountering Song Mingyang was merely a small interlude.
The former boss had worked hard into middle age, owned property and a car in Shanghai, and had tens of millions-respectable, yes.
But Zhang Yang wasn’t envious.
After all, in terms of the future, Zhang Yang was the one with truly unlimited potential.
