Chapter 98: Falling for Zhang Yang at First Sight

Early the next morning, the dawn light along the Huangpu River streamed into the room.

Zhang Yang opened his eyes and looked at Dai Lu, her black hair spread on the pillow, her fair shoulder exposed, and memories of last night flashed through his mind.

Who would have thought that the seemingly aloof campus beauty, at the peak of her popularity, could also be so delightfully unpredictable?

“What did you call me last night?” Zhang Yang thought as he got out of bed.

By the floor-to-ceiling window, he stretched lightly, his perfect figure clearly outlined in the light, flawless in every line.

Dai Lu, not knowing when she had woken, blinked her eyelashes. When she opened her eyes, she saw the golden-edged, perfect back in front of her and felt her heart skip a beat.

“You’re awake,” the figure said, glancing back slightly.

Dai Lu smiled, looked down at the blanket covering her chest, and then sat up, letting it slip off her, walking barefoot toward him, pressing gently against his back.

Feeling her warmth behind him, Zhang Yang looked at the long-legged campus beauty.

“Put some clothes on. I’ll take you out for breakfast.”

Dai Lu softly responded and obediently bent to pick up her clothes.

After morning routines, the two left COFCO Seaview No. 1.

In the underground garage, Dai Lu saw the Bentley parked beside Zhang Yang’s Cullinan.

A Cullinan and a Bentley, parked side by side, luxury and elegance complementing each other.

“Is the Bentley yours too?” Dai Lu asked.

“Mm, which one do you want to ride?” Zhang Yang smiled, glancing back.

Soon, the Cullinan sped out of the garage.

Breakfast wasn’t anything fancy-just a local street stall, full of authentic city flavor.

Whether a campus beauty enjoyed street food depended entirely on who brought her.

For example, Xiao Wang had taken girls to street stalls plenty of times. For Zhang Yang, a handsome guy like him, driving a Cullinan, bringing a long-legged campus beauty to eat street food, she was just as happy.

“Try this,” Dai Lu said, affectionately using her chopsticks to put a bun in Zhang Yang’s bowl.

She sat close to him, her cool thighs pressed casually against his legs.

A nearby young couple saw this and whispered to each other.

“Look, such a beautiful girl is actively feeding the guy. When we go out to eat, I’m the one serving you,” the boy said enviously.

“Envious? Are you as handsome as him? And the Cullinan outside yours?” the girl snapped, pinching him. “If you had that, forget me serving you-I might even serve you foot baths.”

“Yikes, I won’t dare,” he stammered.

“Are you sober?”

“Yes, I’m sober.”

“After we finish, I’ll take you back to school,” Zhang Yang said, glancing at Dai Lu.

“Ah? Already going back?” Dai Lu sounded reluctant.

Feeling the handsome presence in front of her and recalling the unforgettable memories of last night, she realized this might be their only intersection and felt a little sad.

“Will you reply if I message you later?”

“Or maybe after some time, you won’t even remember who I am?”

“If I think of you at night while I can’t sleep, maybe with another girl, I’ll feel… emo…”

Faced with Dai Lu’s heartfelt confession, Zhang Yang remained calm, simply taking out his phone.

“What do you think of this one?”

“And this one’s nice too. I’ll get it for you-do you like it?”

“Ah, I don’t want it. I’m not materialistic,” Dai Lu murmured, cheeks red.

“I never said you were. Just a gift,” Zhang Yang smiled. “Pick one; I’ll take you to buy it later.”

Blushing, Dai Lu shyly chose one while looking at the phone.

After breakfast, Zhang Yang called the Louis Vuitton store to check if they had the style-luckily, a few were available.

“Sir, are you coming now? I’ll head to the store immediately,” the salesperson asked enthusiastically.

“Okay, we’ll be there soon,” Zhang Yang agreed.

Soon, he drove Dai Lu straight to the Louis Vuitton store.

Inside, the staff were impressed by this rich, handsome guy bringing a long-legged campus beauty to shop. Envy and excitement mingled as they brought out the bags.

“Do you like it?” Zhang Yang asked, watching Dai Lu try the bag in front of the mirror.

Her long legs in a short skirt paired perfectly with the LV bag, radiating elegance.

“Love it.” Dai Lu turned from the mirror, eyes sparkling, taking a small step forward, hugging him and giving a warm kiss.

“Good, glad you like it,” Zhang Yang called the salesperson, paying without hesitation.

Moments later, Dai Lu carried the shopping bag, walking beside Zhang Yang.

A few steps in, she bit her lip and tentatively hooked her arm through his.

A campus beauty’s status only truly mattered in front of such a handsome, wealthy man.

In the morning, Zhang Yang drove Dai Lu back to school.

She sat upright in the passenger seat, seemingly brewing some emotion.

Students passing by stopped to take photos when they saw the car.

“Is he dropping someone off or picking someone up?”

“Looks like someone’s in the passenger seat.”

When the Cullinan stopped, Zhang Yang noticed Dai Lu tense slightly, the crowd growing around them as everyone anticipated someone stepping out.

“Here we are. See you,” Zhang Yang smiled.

Dai Lu hugged him, planting a warm kiss, her hand gripping the door handle.

The passenger seat required a qualified passenger.

Feeling all the curious eyes around her, Dai Lu took a deep breath, lifted her head, straightened her chest, and stepped out with her long legs, all movements smooth and deliberate.

Instantly, the image of the aloof goddess stepping out of a Cullinan was set.

“That looks like Dai Lu from the Tourism Department!”

“No wonder her standards are so high. And those guys still try to chase her?”

Even a middle-aged person in a Rolls-Royce couldn’t make a girl exit so confidently, but now, a handsome young man driving a Cullinan-any girl would feel proud.

At this moment, Dai Lu wanted the whole world to see.

Seeing Dai Lu by the driver’s seat, looking expectantly at him, Zhang Yang didn’t hesitate and opened the door to step out.

“This is Dai Lu Senior’s secret boyfriend. Wow, so handsome, and so rich.”

“Who would dare chase her? Instant failure for sure.”

The students murmured excitedly.

The moment Zhang Yang stepped out, Dai Lu threw herself into his arms.

“See, I’m giving up my university right to choose. You have to take responsibility.”

“What does that have to do with me?” Zhang Yang asked, holding the soft Dai Lu with a laugh.

“Not your business? With you like this, who else in school would dare chase me? And anyway, as if I’d ever fancy someone else.” Dai Lu snorted playfully.

Zhang Yang glanced at the surrounding gazes, feeling as if he heard a chorus of broken hearts.

“Let’s go,” he smiled, saying nothing else.

“Okay,” Dai Lu obediently released her grip, though reluctantly.

Leaving campus, on the way back, Zhang Yang received a message from Tao Xiaoxiao:

“I’m heading back.”

“So soon? Did your boyfriend take you?” Zhang Yang asked.

“No. That liar borrowed the car. I made it clear to him myself.” Tao Xiaoxiao’s brief message carried a hint of frustration.

“I’ll take you then. By the way, have you eaten? Let’s grab a meal.” Zhang Yang said politely.

“Not yet…”

Half an hour later, Zhang Yang picked up Tao Xiaoxiao at a business hotel.

The girl wore light makeup, a short skirt, and though her legs weren’t as long as Dai Lu’s, they were still slender.

“Bad mood?” Zhang Yang asked with a smile.

Tao Xiaoxiao sat stiffly in the passenger seat, right next to the man who unsettled her heart.

“A little.”

A partly unfulfilled fling-since the guy was a scammer, it didn’t matter. Nothing had really happened.

“Because of who?” Zhang Yang glanced at her. “Lin Sen?”

Tao Xiaoxiao shook her head softly.

“Not him, then who? It can’t be me, right?” Zhang Yang joked casually.

“It’s you,” Tao Xiaoxiao said, looking directly at him.

“Huh?” Zhang Yang was confused. “That’s my fault?”

“This trip to Shanghai, chasing someone-whatever, the moment I saw you, I knew it was over. Seeing you showed me what it really means to chase someone.”

“Ah?” Zhang Yang continued to be baffled.

“Doesn’t it feel strange? We’ve only met once,” Tao Xiaoxiao said, biting her lip. “You have to understand, if the number of meetings mattered, there wouldn’t be such a thing as love at first sight.”

“Love at first sight? That serious?” Zhang Yang sensed the gravity.

Her words sounded familiar, almost like what Dai Lu had said-just a confession of feelings.

“Yes. Actually, you know, the best state is when everything is unspoken. Confessions are really just the final struggle, but I still want to say it,” Tao Xiaoxiao said, summoning courage.

“Meeting Zhang Yang at first sight is life-altering.”

Zhang Yang knew all too well that being both handsome and rich had finally brought him the happiest of problems.

Being too popular wasn’t entirely a good thing.

“Actually, I…” Zhang Yang organized his words, ready to say something.

“Don’t say anything. I already know…” Tao Xiaoxiao interrupted him.

Zhang Yang was confused-he hadn’t even said anything yet.

“All done,” Tao Xiaoxiao said, her chest rising and falling slightly. Like beans from a bamboo tube, she had said everything, appropriate or not, and now she just stared at Zhang Yang.

“Seriously, little classmate, what am I supposed to say?” Zhang Yang thought. What could he say? There were plenty of beautiful girls, and in his situation, confessions of liking him were nothing new.

Did he have to respond to all of them?

Besides, do you know what “sage mode” is? After last night with Dai Lu, going wild, now was the time for being the wise, guiding type. Zhang Yang feared that during their meal, he might slip into dispensing life lessons.

“Oh, got it,” Tao Xiaoxiao said gloomily.

Zhang Yang didn’t have time to console her, so he drove straight to a restaurant and treated her to a meal.

The food was delicious, and it was clear Tao Xiaoxiao was a foodie.

As they ate, the awkward tension from earlier finally faded.

“By the way, are you the type of rich kid who lives for experiences, or to prove yourself to your family?” Tao Xiaoxiao asked curiously. “You completed your transformation and regained your family’s recognition?”

Zhang Yang said nothing, but that didn’t make it true.

“That must’ve been tough, having to work so hard just to regain recognition,” Tao Xiaoxiao imagined, filling in all the details on her own.

No words from Zhang Yang were needed; she constructed the story in her mind perfectly.

Impressive.

“Eat up,” Zhang Yang said after a while, amused at her constant chatter.

Tao Xiaoxiao lowered her head to eat, for the first time doubting her own charm. She was cute and fresh-looking, yet Zhang Yang seemed to barely notice her.

After the meal, Zhang Yang drove Tao Xiaoxiao straight to the station.

Before leaving, Tao Xiaoxiao looked at him, her gaze revealing an impulse.

She opened her arms and stepped forward-but grasped nothing.

“So stingy! Just a goodbye hug,” Tao Xiaoxiao huffed, clearly a bit disappointed at Zhang Yang’s restraint.

“Really just a hug?” Zhang Yang asked skeptically.

“Absolutely,” Tao Xiaoxiao said firmly.

“Alright then.” Zhang Yang wasn’t stingy; he opened his arms, ready to receive her.

Tao Xiaoxiao’s face lit up with a smile as she threw herself into his embrace.

She smelled the pleasant scent from his chest, looked up at his handsome face, and her heart stirred.

“Zhang Yang…” she whispered softly.

“Hmm?” Zhang Yang replied, only to have his lips lightly pecked. He immediately realized he’d been tricked.

“Damn, you lied! No honor!”

“I don’t care. Compared to honesty, I choose to please myself,” Tao Xiaoxiao said, lips curling, satisfied.

“This trip was worth it!”

After a long moment, Zhang Yang stood watching Tao Xiaoxiao recover her energy, trotting into the station with little steps, glancing back with an expectant expression. He waved goodbye.

From afar, he clearly saw joy sparkling in her eyes.

Ring!

A new message came from Tao Xiaoxiao:

“Wipe your mouth!”

“Wipe my mouth?” Zhang Yang understood and grabbed a wet wipe from the car.

After wiping, the white cloth was immediately covered in lipstick marks.

“Sure enough, good things come to good people,” Zhang Yang said, shaking his head in amusement.

Later, he had plans to meet Bei Wei-showing up with another girl’s lipstick on him would be a bit too much.
