Chapter 23
Chapter 23: The Old Case (Part 2)
At the bathroom door.
The young man's headless corpse collapsed with a loud "thud," followed by the rolling of his severed head, resembling a red watermelon, from behind, making a gurgling sound.
This instant caught the attention of everyone in the train car.
Ming Yue: "……"
Ming Yue silently cursed, blocking her ears with her fingers. The gloomy mist outside the window thickened, pressing against the train like soft arms.
The female ghost's presence was heavy with Yin energy, and the surrounding environment seemed to be cooperating, allowing the living to see.
In the next second, the shrill screams of the people shook the entire car!
"Ah, ah, ah! There's a murder! There's a murder!!"
"Call the police, call the police!"
"There's no signal! Press the emergency button on the car!"
Chaotic footsteps mixed with the cries of women and children as the crowd rushed toward the other end of the car.
The train door opened just a crack, and people scrambled to get out, shouting curses as they trampled each other. Some braver onlookers stayed behind, shaking as they filmed with their phones, their faces a mix of terror and excitement.
The seats were empty, the bathroom door wide open, and a stench filled the air. The blood on the floor had not yet cooled, pooling everywhere.
Ming Yue sat in seat 02D, looking down at the blood flowing in from the ground, raising her foot to avoid stepping in the victim’s blood.
She was waiting.
Watching to see if the female ghost would make any further moves.
Suddenly, the severed head rolled by itself, startling the crowd at the back of the train car with another scream.
Bang.
A wet sound.
A hand crawled out from the train's iron toilet, followed by a long-haired head, a body, and legs.
It was truly... a face so horrifically disfigured it looked like a blank sheet of paper, and the Yin energy around it was so thick it felt like visiting a grave. The female ghost picked up the head, kissed it affectionately, and then opened her mouth to eat.
Ming Yue: "……"
Ming Yue was stunned by the female ghost's actions.
The people in the train car: "......"
"Ah, ah, ah, there’s a ghost, there’s a ghost!"
"Fck! A female ghost! Is she eating sht from that guy's head? Did you see that?!"
"Mom, I want to go home, I don't want to go to Baoshan anymore!"
"F*ck! The door to the car is stuck! We can't get out!"
"Haha, maybe someone’s just pretending to be a ghost. Don’t be scared, let me take a picture!"
Ming Yue: "……"
In cases like this, it really is the bold who survive and the timid who perish—those with strong Yang energy are more likely to be unafraid.
The stench of feces from the bathroom lingered in the air. Ming Yue clearly saw yellow excrement sticking to the head.
In the blink of an eye, the corpse's lips, now purple and yellow, were ripped off by the female ghost and chewed up, like she was eating cheap pig's head meat, leaving behind a face that had its skin torn off, exposing the blackened gums.
The female ghost chewed loudly, her face stained with blood and tears.
Ming Yue: "......"
Girl, you're really hungry. Maybe you should use some tissue to wipe?
I have some, do you want it?
She took out her trident, feeling a chill as she sensed the deep love the female ghost had for the man.
When she moved her head, a man at the other end of the car saw it and urgently shouted, "Little girl, come here! That female ghost is eating someone!"
Ming Yue stared at the man's skin, which was starting to show signs of decomposition. She thought to herself how quickly the Yin energy was corrupting him. Grateful for the man’s warning, she replied, "Thank you, Uncle!"
Then, she didn’t answer but instead asked, "May I ask, did anyone call the police earlier?"The crowd responded: "We called! No signal! We pressed the emergency button!"
"Little girl, stop filming, saving your life is more important!"
"Yeah, if we stick together, our Yang energy is stronger, that female ghost won't dare to come!"
Ming Yue shook her head in refusal and walked to the aisle, sticking an energy-absorbing talisman onto the back of a seat.
Instantly, the talisman fluttered and began to suck in the Yin fog, the fluid inside the car swirling as if caught in the center of a vortex, forming an eye of the storm that rushed toward the talisman.
The crowd: "……"
Wow!
At the end of the car, the few remaining adult men, all with strong courage, saw Ming Yue's move and began filming even more.
As the Yin energy was drawn in, the female ghost raised her head, staring at Ming Yue, tears of blood streaming from her eyes, crying in despair:
"Why didn't you stop me?"
"You saw me just now."
"You should die too."
Ming Yue: "……"
Do I look like an easy scapegoat?
Ming Yue, puzzled, asked: "Sister, do you love him or not?"
"If you love him, why kill him?"
"Do you know that when a vengeful ghost kills a living person, they go to hell?"
"Hell? What's there to be afraid of?"
"My love is already dead, my heart is like being cut with a knife."
The female ghost let out a soft laugh, slowly standing up and revealing her pale neck.
Only then did Ming Yue notice a deep red, almost black, strangulation mark on her neck—
So she hung herself.Ming Yue stepped back, adjusting her stance, and said seriously:
"Believe me, sister, the heartache from love is nothing. You wouldn’t want to experience the feeling of your soul being roasted by flames, unable to die a second time."
"Try it once, and I guarantee you’ll never dare to commit suicide again."
"What’s love? A pathetic joke?"
These words provoked the female ghost, who let out a long howl.
The crowd behind screamed in shock!
Then, the black mist of the female ghost rose up, only to be stomped back down by Ming Yue’s foot.
This kick was steady, precise, and forceful—practiced, aimed at the vital points, the heart, and the solar plexus.
Bang.
The female ghost’s head slammed to the ground, and she didn’t get up for a long time.
The crowd: "……"
Several grown men exclaimed in unison.
"Damn, what did I just see?"
"This, this thin little girl, can she really fight a ghost?"
"Damn! Looks like the Jinling Morning Post said a few days ago that Jinling has people who can kill ghosts… It’s true!"
With about six or seven minutes left until Baoshan station, the train was already slowing down as it entered the Baoshan District.
Outside the window, the Yin fog thickened, as if the high-speed train was traveling through a gray forest. The train lights couldn’t pierce the path ahead, and the scenery outside was invisible.
The rain hadn’t stopped, and the fog grew denser.
Thunder rumbled.
Ming Yue took a quick glance outside the window and jumped in shock.
Other living people might only see the fog, but in Ming Yue’s line of sight, she saw arms crawling along the window and mouths brushing against the glass. They opened and closed, revealing rows of gleaming teeth, dense and packed, like a glass of human flesh flowers in full bloom.
In the sky, within the Yin mist, human heads flew by like meteors—no, ghost heads. Their bodies turned into thick misty tails, like gray shooting stars, or a downpour of human heads.
Ming Yue: "……"
Lord Yama above!
What’s going on in Baoshan District?
Did the earth’s seal crack open, and are the dead rising from their graves?!
Ming Yue, who hadn’t yet learned about Yin-Yang sensitivity, didn’t know that hospitals, as special-function non-profit organizations with a long history, are especially dangerous when they have strong medical resources. When a ghost tide erupts, it becomes even more terrifying.
Over the years, those who died in the hospital, whether from natural causes, ineffective treatments, medical accidents, or even suicides, would, when the rare opportunity arises, crawl out of the ground to enjoy the fleeting freedom.
The female ghost slowly stood up. The people at the back of the car anxiously called out to Ming Yue, worried about her, but Ming Yue couldn’t care less about the Yao-style ghost in front of her. She furrowed her brows and flipped through the messages in the [Picnic Group]—
She found an important piece of information.
The department responsible for a string of student deaths was obstetrics.
It had gathered a large number of deceased infant spirits, pure Yin energy—obstetrics.
Ming Yue: "……"
I just wanted to come here for some peace and quiet, why does this always happen?
Isn’t this picnic a bit excessive?
The female ghost stood, her arms wide open. The surrounding Yin mist, like a living thing, slithered into her open and closed orifices, like countless maggots crawling into holes.
Ming Yue’s heart tightened. She pulled out a packet of pre-tied Yang energy talismans and energy storage talismans and threw them toward the crowd at the back of the carriage, shouting, “Seniors, please help!”
“Stick one or two of the talismans on each window, alright?!”
“Thank you so much!”
The crowd eagerly took the talismans.
The young man filming excitedly said, “Don’t worry, beautiful, we’ll make sure to finish the task!”The female ghost: "......"
She tilted her head, staring at Ming Yue’s shining trident, and screamed as she charged forward.
Ming Yue swiftly sidestepped, in the narrow aisle of the carriage, grabbing onto the overhead luggage shelf with one hand, pulling her legs up and kicking off to rush behind the female ghost, bringing the trident down on her head.
The female ghost screamed in agony, the sound waves spreading.
Buzz——!
The people in the carriage all quickly covered their ears and crouched down. Ming Yue felt a wave of dizziness, warm liquid flowing from her ears. She touched it with her hand, it was blood.
"Quick, stick the talismans!"
Ming Yue shouted, feeling guilty towards the man beside her. She swiftly kicked the man's stiffened corpse.
Upon seeing this, the female ghost’s face twisted into a fierce snarl.
"Don’t touch him!"
I won’t touch him, but I’ll touch you!
Ming Yue lifted the man’s corpse, showing the female ghost his body, now decayed with maggots crawling from the corrupted skin due to Yin energy. She said seriously, "Sister, your love is really terrifying."
The female ghost screamed, "What do you know!"
"He is my love!"
"What nonsense love!"
Ming Yue's aura did not lose to hers as she shouted angrily:
"I understand cause and effect!"
"He betrayed you, and even if you were to punish him by hanging or dismembering him, it would be better than killing yourself and others!"
The female ghost: "......"
The female ghost was stunned by the shocking words of dismemberment and hanging.
Taking advantage of this, Ming Yue rushed forward, delivering a series of punches to the female ghost’s head. The female ghost screamed and counterattacked.
However, even though she absorbed a lot of Yin energy due to her intense resentment, she was still unable to resist Ming Yue’s Yang energy when it approached, causing her to be nearly burned alive by the violent Yang energy.
Seeing her body full of holes from the trident, it was almost pathetic.
After all, the one she was facing was Ming Yue, who had unstoppable Yang energy, becoming more ferocious the closer she got.
Ming Yue kicked her in the back, pinning her to the ground, and shouted, "Cover your head, squat down!"
The female ghost's face dripped with blood tears, unwilling, but still complied.
Ming Yue stuck a Yin energy talisman onto the trident. With one thrust, she impaled the female ghost completely, skewering her like a piece of roast pork, pinning her to the floor.
Why stick a Yin energy talisman?
It was to prevent the Yang energy on the trident from burning the female ghost alive.
Aside from that, someone had just died. If the ghost was burned away before the ghost messengers arrived, it would be difficult to explain.
Before Ming Yue could think any further, the train screeched to a halt, and the carriage doors slammed open with a loud clang. A fierce Yin energy surged in like a tsunami, making everyone inside the carriage tremble, their bodies quickly covered in frost.
Ming Yue’s pupils contracted slightly.
The concentration and purity of this Yin energy were extraordinary—rarely seen in her life.
It was fierce, but not evil.
At the doorway, thick mist swirled, and two figures appeared.
No one knew when they had arrived or how they had come. They had no legs, nor wings.
They stepped over the dead body of the man near the restroom door, ignoring it completely.
It wasn't the train security personnel arriving late; instead—
Ming Yue stared at the two figures in black and white, focusing on their silhouettes cast on the floor by the faint light.
They had no shadows.
Even though the light was weak, they had no shadows. The carriage was eerily silent as the two figures slowly walked forward, wearing tall hats and long robes, their faces shrouded in a cloud of black mist.
Among them, Bai Wuchang turned his face toward Ming Yue. Ming Yue gripped the trident tightly, her palms sweating.
"Is this the Ming family of Northern Jinling?"
His voice was strange—neither high-pitched nor low, but it felt like a sharp tone had been pulled high, as though a knife were being used to dissect the delicate skin of a beating heart, making one shiver uncontrollably.
Ming Yue took a deep breath and lowered her head in respect. "Yes."
"I am Ming Er of the Ming family. I greet Lord Wuchang."
She then withdrew the trident.
Bai Wuchang stood motionless, staring at her, his icy Yin energy wrapping around Ming Yue like a shroud.
Ming Yue had always been full of Yang energy since she was young.
This was the first time she had felt the coldness of Yin energy piercing her skin.
It was heart-piercing.
Bone-chilling.
The female ghost, without even a scream, was taken away by Hei Wuchang with his soul-hook chain. Hei Wuchang didn't even glance at the decapitated body, simply pushing forward and burning away the soul that hadn't even been born yet.
Seeing this, Ming Yue felt a chill in her heart.
The way they treated souls as though they were pigs or dogs.
Bai Wuchang spoke coldly, "Give my regards to your elder brother."
Ming Yue raised her head to glance at him and smiled as she nodded in acknowledgment.
Upon arriving at Baoshan Station, the carriage doors opened. Several living people happily disembarked, excitedly discussing the encounter with the Yin messengers they had witnessed on the train. Ming Yue found herself surrounded by them, awkwardly laughing as she tried to change the subject.
"No, no, uncle, there are countless strange people in this world, my little tricks aren't anything."
"Uh... I also don't know who those two in black and white were.""......Could you please not ask?"
The timing was coincidental.
Chen Xiu had just gotten off another high-speed train, and when he looked up, he saw Ming Yue, with an expression as though she had seen death, pushing her way through the crowd.
He walked up, holding his bag, and greeted her.
"Hey, isn't this the famous freshman from the department? Little Sister Ming Yue?"
Ming Yue: "......"
Ming Yue politely asked, "Excuse me, may I ask who you are?"
Chen Xiu laughed brightly. "You don't recognize me? Ming Yue, right? Not long ago, I had a big argument with the people from the New Media department over that issue with you and the Medical School."
"You're also here for Baoshan Hospital, right?"
