Chapter 20: Ghost Covers the Eyes
Li Si looked at the Decapitated Ghost, and with a movement of his will, the Decapitated Ghost’s information appeared in his mind again.
Decapitated Ghost
Ghost creature level: low-level ghost creature
Abilities possessed: Ghost Blows Out the Lamp; Intangibility; Long Tongue, strengthened.
Current relationship: contracted.
Current soul body strength: 30
There was not much difference from usual. It was just that strengthened had appeared after Long Tongue, and its soul body strength had gone from 20 to 30.
He gathered his mind onto the words Long Tongue, and a piece of information immediately appeared in Li Si’s mind.
Long Tongue, strengthened: a long tongue wrapped in resentment. It can coil around and kill humans, ghost creatures, and demons, with increased damage against ghost creatures.
What delighted Li Si was that the Decapitated Ghost’s Long Tongue ability had increased damage against ghost creatures. This was exactly what he urgently needed right now, because what he would face afterward was the ghost creature Madam Zhang Guo.
At this time, however, the Decapitated Ghost was staring at Li Si with an eerie gaze, and a tongue slowly stretched toward his eyes.
“What is this?” Li Si frowned slightly, and his body instinctively shifted back a little. But after sensing the contractual connection between himself and the Decapitated Ghost, he no longer retreated.
Li Si had a contract with the Decapitated Ghost. He believed the Decapitated Ghost definitely would not harm him, so there had to be a reason for doing this.
Clearly feeling the wet tongue on his face, Li Si subconsciously closed his eyes, afraid that saliva would flow into them.
The tongue wandered near his eyes. Before long, he heard the sound of something falling to the ground with a slap, and Li Si felt his head lighten, as if some burden had been removed.
After the Decapitated Ghost finished doing this, its tongue also swiftly withdrew from his face.
Li Si wiped his face, wiping away the foul-smelling saliva, and opened his eyes. He immediately felt much clearer. Even his nearsightedness was gone, and he could see the room very clearly.
At this moment, Li Si did not want to think too much. He looked toward the ground and saw two somewhat rotten palms lying quietly on the mud floor.
“What is this?” His body trembled a little, his teeth chattering. He touched the area around his eyes, finding it somewhat unbelievable. Ever since he came here, for the entire day, two palms had been covering his eyes?
Taking a deep breath, he drove away his chaotic emotions. Li Si began calmly thinking about these matters.
What were these two hands? What use did they have?
He crouched down and looked at the two palms. The palms were already somewhat rotten. They were deathly blue all over, and in some places, the skin and flesh had already fallen away, revealing dark red flesh and blood. In the centres of the two palms, there happened to be two holes, just enough for a person’s eyes to look through the holes toward the other side.
Was this? Li Si had a guess in his heart. Enduring his discomfort, he reached his finger toward the rotten palms.
When he touched the cold, soft skin of the rotten palm, Li Si’s will moved, and a piece of information appeared in his mind.
Ghost Hands, companion object:
A companion object of the Ghost Covers the Eyes spell. When a ghost creature uses Ghost Covers the Eyes on a passerby, the Ghost Hands will cover the person’s eyes, letting the person’s eyes look through the holes in the middle of the Ghost Hands and see what the ghost creature wants you to see.
Hidden effect: after this spell is broken, the person’s eyesight will greatly improve.
Li Si’s guess was confirmed, and his whole body immediately went cold. After entering this Zhang Residence, everything he had seen was what the ghost creature had wanted him to see. In other words, while he was in the Zhang Residence, he had never actually seen the true face of the Zhang Residence.
No wonder, even though the servants of the Zhang Residence had all become Human Stiffs, he had not been able to see their death appearances in the Eight Trigrams Mirror at all. Earlier, he had thought it was because Human Stiffs were half-dead and not yet dead, and therefore did not count as ghost creatures, so the Eight Trigrams Mirror could not show their death appearances.
Taking out the Eight Trigrams Mirror, Li Si walked to the window, pulled the Eight Trigrams Mirror from his sleeve, and shone it from a hidden angle toward the servants guarding the entrance of Little Bamboo Courtyard.
Fortunately, after removing the Ghost Hands, Li Si’s eyesight had become much better than before. With one glance in the mirror, he saw the subtle differences between the two servants outside and ordinary people.
For example, the servant standing on the left side of Little Bamboo Courtyard scratched his neck from time to time. On his neck were dense, tiny holes.
From time to time, two or three white maggots wriggled inside the holes. The scratching motion he had just made had torn apart one maggot that had crawled out, and half of the maggot’s corpse was still struggling inside the hole in his neck. White, translucent fluid sprayed all around the nearby holes, then stopped moving.
Seeing this scene, Li Si truly could not endure it. Stomach acid rose all the way to his throat, and his face turned green.
The other guard was not that exaggerated. He was not very different from an ordinary person, except that some parts of his body were rotten, and in some places, the surface skin had already fallen off, revealing red flesh beneath.
Li Si could already accept this quite easily, at least compared to the disgusting bugs on the other guard. He could now confirm that ever since arriving at the Zhang Residence, he had never truly seen the Zhang Residence clearly.
He suddenly thought of something and used the Eight Trigrams Mirror to shine toward the leftovers from the afternoon meal.
Seeing that the food was ordinary food, Li Si breathed out. He had truly been afraid that he had eaten something unclean in the Zhang Residence. After all, in legends, ghosts and monsters all used maggots and tree leaves to make dishes.
But from the looks of things now, the Human Stiffs of the Zhang Residence still did not know they were dead and were still living as they usually had.
So the things they ate were also the same as those of humans.
Li Si reached out and closed the doors and windows. He glanced at the books on the desk, but he could not keep reading them, so he walked to the desk and extinguished the lamp.
As for how to deal with that Madam Zhang Guo, he did not have any good method in his heart. He could only wait until tomorrow to test Madam Zhang Guo.
After having the Decapitated Ghost continue standing in the corner to serve as an air conditioner, Li Si crawled into the comfortable bedding.
Feeling the softness of the bedding, he made up his mind. Once he got out of the Zhang Residence alive, he would definitely get a bed and quilt like this. This silk bedding really was too comfortable.
Lying in this comfortable bedding, Li Si soon felt his mind grow heavy and muddled, and he fell straight asleep.
Not long after Li Si fell asleep, an eye appeared once again on the window paper that already had a hole in it.
But this eye was not the Drowned Ghost’s bloodshot eye. Instead, it was clear and bright, carrying a trace of seduction.
Then this eye suddenly stopped moving and slowly looked toward the roof beam.
When this eye saw the roof beam, fear appeared in that clear, bright eye.
After fear appeared, the expression in this eye immediately began to turn dull, then it slowly shrivelled.
“Ah!!!” A miserable scream that ordinary people could not hear rippled through the night sky, and that eye also vanished from the window.
Drip...
A drop of crystalline liquid fell from the roof beam and dripped onto the floor.
In the corner, the Decapitated Ghost also raised its head to look at the roof beam. That small face, which was usually expressionless, was now filled with fear. Its body even began trembling.
