Chapter 125

Chapter 125: All the wolves I’ve met have great temperaments—grassland wolves and arctic wolves alike.

There were five arctic wolves in the pack. Aside from the injured one lying on the table, the rest were all present.

The arctic wolf at the very bottom moved its paw a little and somehow dug out a rabbit, pushing it inward with its paw, then obediently lay flat.

Only a few furry heads were visible inside. Their tails couldn’t be seen, but judging by the cheerful expressions on the arctic wolves’ faces, those tails were probably wagging nonstop behind them.

The wind and snow could mask the scent of animals. The injured arctic wolf inside hadn’t realized that the ones outside were its familiar companions.

Taking advantage of the injured wolf not reacting yet, Lin Qianyu gave a couple more strokes to those furry heads. “Are you here to visit the patient?”

“Wuu…” The lead wolf, with its head on top, wore a serious expression.

Lin Qianyu’s eyes curved in a smile. “Come inside first. It’s cold outside.”

The arctic wolves didn’t come empty-pawed either. They brought rabbits and seals, dragging and pulling them in with their mouths.

The prey had been left outside for a while and was covered in snow, already looking quite frozen.

“You guys chat.” Lin Qianyu gently guided the injured arctic wolf to lie back down, then turned and brought over a few plates of sliced meat. “Eat this first.”

The frozen food could be saved for the next meal, once thawed.

The arctic wolves were very cautious—visibly so. Every step they tried to take was hesitant, and at the slightest movement, they’d quickly retract their paws.

The little spotted seal quietly distanced itself from the wolves, head diving into a bowl of milk, as if trying to drown itself in the warm, properly prepared formula.

Or just overfeed itself to death!

The little snow leopard sniffed the scent of the arctic wolves with great curiosity. Lin Qianyu bent down to pick it up.

Cradled in her arms, the little snow leopard turned to lick her cheek and tucked its paws into the crook of her elbow.

The wolves in the pack were very affectionate. They gathered around the table, able to nuzzle the injured wolf just by lifting their heads—nose tips touching, as if offering comfort.

Each one was a big fluffy white puffball. When sitting, their tails rested behind them—not as thick and long as a snow leopard’s, nor as bushy as an arctic fox’s, but still soft and plush, seemingly very nice to the touch.

Especially when they huddled together.

Lowering her voice, Lin Qianyu whispered, “Samoyed board meeting.”

【??? Not showing the footage and now whispering to tease us, huh.】

【Ugh! Just those five words and I can already imagine how adorable and harmonious the scene must be.】

【Hurry up and beg Director Su on the show’s official Weibo!!! Can’t someone just airdrop the livestream equipment in via helicopter? CEO Feng will foot the bill.】

【Feng Jingye: 👍】

Holding her phone in one hand, Lin Qianyu took a vertical shot. The frame could barely fit one arctic wolf. Switching to horizontal mode and adjusting, she finally managed to capture the whole wolf pack before pressing the shutter.

Click. The sudden noise startled the arctic wolves, and they all turned their heads toward her.

Lin Qianyu, holding up her phone: “…”

She forgot to mute it.

“Ahem.” Lin Qianyu simply pressed the shutter twice more and even got a few shots of the wolves’ faces turned toward the camera. The lead wolf sat crouched to the side. For a wolf that's always alert, it would usually pounce toward the source of a strange noise the moment it heard it—but this lead wolf didn’t move at all and even left the spot near the table’s edge for its companions.

It chose to stand quietly in the corner.

Lin Qianyu put her phone away. “Remember to eat that meat.”

It had originally been prepared for the lead wolf.

But… now that so many arctic wolves had come, she'd have to cut more meat.

“I’ll need to find time to make another trip to the ice cave.” Lin Qianyu pondered. With more fluffballs in the house, food consumption would naturally increase.

But thinking of the weather outside, it wasn’t going to be possible to travel that far anytime soon.

Holding a bowl of warm water in her hands, Lin Qianyu weighed the little snow leopard’s belly. “Tangyuan’s heavier than before.”

Feeding it three meals a day on schedule had clearly paid off.

Felines bulked up quickly. The little snow leopard now looked quite different from before.

Whether it was the smooth, glossy coat or the increasingly round, fluffy head, it was easy to see it was being very well cared for.

The soup on the stove was already done.

The fire inside flickered now and then. Since the room was already warm enough, Lin Qianyu didn’t add any more firewood.

Mainly because the arctic wolf was a bit too close to the stove—if she added more wood, the larger flames might burn it.

The igloo turned out a bit too small after all.

When building it, Lin Qianyu had considered keeping small animals and the size of the polar bear, so she had purposely made the house larger.

But now, seeing how there was hardly any room to step inside, Lin Qianyu muttered helplessly, “Once the storm stops, I’ll need to build another room next to this one.”

The injured arctic wolf would need some time to recover, and at the very least, the others would need a place to rest when they visited.

Lin Qianyu pulled open the curtain in the middle bathroom partition. Without putting the wash basin inside, this space could double as a small bedroom.

With the curtain open, the view was broader and the room felt a bit more spacious.

She placed the sleeping bag back on the bed. Lin Qianyu rubbed the yarn she spun last night and threaded it through the sweater needles she had shaved in advance. “This batch of yarn came out almost like it’s been bleached—very few mixed colors.”

Most of the fluffballs on the polar island had white fur. White coats blended better into the snowy environment, making it easier to hide and hunt.

The little snow leopard didn’t shed much. Most of the fur came from the arctic foxes and polar bears—white fur dominated.

The yarn hung down in front. The little snow leopard, who had been licking its paws, paused, raised a paw, and swiped hard. The light yarn swung, but it missed, and it ended up biting nothing but air.

Lin Qianyu dangled the end of the yarn above the little snow leopard’s head, circling the raised ears.

The snow leopard tilted its head up, ears twitching and twitching again.

After shaking its head and finding it couldn’t shake the yarn off, it looked into Lin Qianyu’s smiling eyes and let out a “Aowu!” before lunging into her arms.

Lin Qianyu caught it with one hand and placed it on her lap. “I’m sewing a quilt.”

She twirled the yarn around her finger, brushing it against the snow leopard’s head.

If she wanted the quilt to be thicker, she’d sew a cover, leave an opening every so often to stuff in animal fur, then seal it and repeat the process. This way, the fur inside wouldn’t shift around or clump in a corner, ensuring it stayed warm throughout. But given the temperature in the igloo and the warmth provided by the fluffy companions beside her, Lin Qianyu could skip that step entirely.

There wasn't much yarn saved up. After just a few stitches with the wooden knitting needles, it was already used up.

Back when she couldn’t sleep in the middle of the night and kept watch over the injured arctic wolf, she had boiled quite a lot of animal fur. It had all dried by now—just waiting to be spun into usable yarn.

Lin Qianyu tapped the knitting needle with her fingertip. “At this pace, the new quilt should be ready before the blizzard ends.”

The little snow leopard licked its nose and curled its tail, sitting on the barely-started quilt. “Mrrp!”

It’ll be ready!

There wouldn’t be much conflict between the snowy owl and the arctic wolves—unless one suddenly attacked, in which case the other would retaliate.

Now that they were under the same roof, the atmosphere was actually pretty harmonious.

The snowy owl, having finished eating, turned to face the wall in its favorite corner.

It was hard to tell whether it was sleeping or just deep in thought, but it was very quiet.

To the arctic wolves, everything in the igloo was curious. Their attention was drawn to the burning firepit, and they didn’t pay much mind to the snowy owl.

Lin Qianyu walked over and said, “If it’s too warm here, you can go to the inner room—the temperature’s a bit lower in the partitions there.”

She was worried that the arctic wolves, used to cold environments, might not be comfortable staying too close to a high-temperature firepit.

The fluffballs at home were often around firepits and hearths, so they weren’t entirely unfamiliar with it.

The arctic wolf stepped back a bit. When it saw Lin Qianyu coming over, its tail began to wag subconsciously. “Awoo!”

It really did look more like a big white dog.

Lin Qianyu couldn’t help but curl her lips into a smile. She reached her hand halfway out, but then remembered she wasn’t that familiar with this arctic wolf yet—it wouldn’t be polite to just touch it.

But just as she was about to pull her hand back, the arctic wolf took the initiative to lean forward, nudging its head into her palm. It tilted its head back, grinning and squinting its eyes happily. “Mrr…”

Lin Qianyu: “!!!”

Different arctic wolves had slightly different fur textures, and the feel was subtly distinct when touched.

Like this one in front of her—its fur was soft and thick. When her fingers sank in, the fluff nearly swallowed up the back of her hand.

The arctic wolf tilted its head and rubbed against her hand with reckless enthusiasm, incredibly affectionate.

Lin Qianyu gently curved her fingers and rubbed back. “Good wolf.”

The arctic wolf rubbed against her hand even more eagerly when it heard that.

Lin Qianyu said with a smile, “All the wolves I’ve met have had such good temperaments—the prairie wolves, and now the arctic wolves too. I’m really lucky.”

【LOL Linlin, forget wolves, have you ever even met a single animal with a bad temper?】

【If I could get half that luck, I’d gladly win the lottery and graduate from a top university too.】

【??? Okay okay okay, you get all the good stuff, food and fluff and affection—take me with you, will ya?!】

...

The arctic wolf on the table seemed a little restless. It moved its paw slightly, but the wooden splint fixed to its front leg made it difficult to stand. After several adjustments, it still couldn’t find a good position to place its paw.The wolf carefully tried to hide its movement, quietly attempting to get down.

“What’s wrong?” Lin Qianyu saw the injured arctic wolf shifting toward the edge of the table and, afraid it might fall, raised her hand to block it. “Want to get down? Is it uncomfortable lying there? Did the towel poke you somewhere?”

She pressed on the towel—it was laid out quite flat.

The quality of the compressed towel was good. Even after soaking and drying, it wasn’t stiff. It shouldn’t be uncomfortable to lie on.

The arctic wolf, caught in the act, froze. It lowered its head, eyes cast down, not daring to meet her gaze, but still hesitantly reached out a paw.

It seemed it really wanted to get down.

“Are you feeling unwell?” Lin Qianyu carefully avoided the wolf’s injuries and picked it up. “Where do you want to go? I’ll carry you, okay?”

The arctic wolf rested its jaw on her shoulder. “Mrr…”

It was such a faint sound, quieter than the wind and snow outside.

If Lin Qianyu hadn’t been paying close attention to it, she might’ve missed it.

Hearing the wolf and sensing its thoughts, Lin Qianyu didn’t know whether to laugh or sigh. “You’re still injured, there’s no rush to go hunting.”

Not being able to hunt while still consuming the pack’s food—arctic wolves might start to feel like a burden to their group.

So, before the injury had even healed, it was already thinking about going out to hunt.

Lin Qianyu gave the wolf a little bounce in her arms. “If you're feeling bored, we can walk around nearby for a bit. But let’s forget about hunting for now. There’s still plenty of meat at home—let’s finish that before we catch more.”

Besides that, she still had jerky, too.

Lin Qianyu took a piece of slightly damp, not yet fully dried jerky and gave it to the wolf. “Wait until you're healed to catch me some rabbits.”

The arctic wolf blinked slowly. Instead of eating the jerky, it gave a serious reply: “Awoo!”
