Chapter 136
Chapter 136 [Main Story Complete]
The polar bear slowly narrowed its eyes. After taking a few slow steps forward, it suddenly charged—“ROAR——!!!”
【Hahaha why does this Arctic wolf look even more clever than a Samoyed.】
【With those eyes, there’s no way it doesn’t have some husky blood in it.】
【I’m dying, all the other wolves are two miles away already, and it’s just now starting to run.】
Lin Qianyu clapped her gloves together. Just now, after grabbing and throwing snow, the inside of her gloves—especially around the fingers and joints—were all caked with ice. The gloves themselves were stiff from being frozen.
She managed to knock some of the ice off, but the rest would have to wait until she got back inside to warm up by the fire.
Leaning against the igloo, Lin Qianyu pulled the little snow leopard into her lap to warm her hands. She still hadn’t seen the wolf pack that went to fetch the frisbee return. Suspicious, she muttered, “Where did those Arctic wolves run off to?”
Did fetching a frisbee really require going that far?
She didn’t think she’d thrown it that hard… but now, with the trees blocking her view in the distance, even Lin Qianyu herself had no idea where the frisbee had landed.
“They didn’t start fighting again, did they?” Lin Qianyu rubbed the snow leopard’s neck. One snowball was enough to send them into chaos before—now with a frisbee, it wouldn’t be surprising if they all bit down and refused to let go.
Thinking it over, Lin Qianyu said, “I should make a few more frisbees.”
Just as she was thinking that, the Arctic wolf that had chased the frisbee far out came running back at full speed. Its fur was being blown backward by the wind from its sprint, rippling slightly with its movement.
The lead wolf held the frisbee steadily in its mouth. As it neared Lin Qianyu, it slowed down in advance, walking the last few steps with a steady pace. “Wu!”
It lowered its head and placed the frisbee into Lin Qianyu’s hand.
“Good job.” Lin Qianyu took the frisbee and patted the lead wolf’s head.
Unaccustomed to physical affection, the lead wolf instinctively stepped back. Lin Qianyu raised her hand and wrapped her arm around the back of its neck, pulling the Arctic wolf into an embrace. “Where do you think you’re going?”
“Wu……”
Lin Qianyu rubbed the wolf, leaning her head against its cheek affectionately. “Where are your buddies? Why are you the only one who came back?”
The Arctic wolf’s upper body was forced to crouch slightly by Lin Qianyu’s pull. It stared straight ahead, unblinking, and though it wobbled from the head rubs, its gaze stayed firm. It gave a low response: “Awoo.”
Fetching.
Lin Qianyu paused for a moment, then reached out to hold the other side of the wolf’s face, turning it gently toward her. “Fetching? Fetching what?”
“Awooo!”
Before the lead wolf could answer, another Arctic wolf’s howl rang out first.
Lin Qianyu looked up to see an Arctic wolf in the lead, its four legs pumping at full speed.
The moment it noticed her gaze, the injured Arctic wolf seemed to remember something. It lifted its front paw, the one wrapped in bandages, adjusted it with a glance down, and steadied the branch it was holding in its mouth.
Just behind it was another Arctic wolf, also carrying a branch. Compared to the first one’s stick, this one’s branch was much larger—clearly a whole section snapped off from a tree, with some leaves and smaller branches still attached. The wolf held the tail end of the branch, and the leafy part dragged behind like a broom.
Xiao Nian had left last and returned the slowest.
But when Lin Qianyu saw the small tree, broken clean in half at the middle, that Xiao Nian was dragging in its mouth, she froze for a moment. One eyebrow slowly arched upward. “This is…?”
Completely unaware of Lin Qianyu’s bewilderment, the Arctic wolves happily ran over with their “trophies” in tow.“Awoo!” Xiao Nian loosened its grip, and the tree trunk hit the ground with a loud thud.
Facing the unwavering gaze of the Arctic wolves, Lin Qianyu rubbed her forehead helplessly. “Are you all sure this is what I threw?”
“Awo!”
“Wu!”
“Ah… awooo?”
Xiao Nian gave the firmest response.
Lin Qianyu: “……”
Yours is by far the most ridiculous one.
【Good grief, guess they didn’t like the frisbee and decided to gather raw materials to make a new one themselves.】
【I thought Xiao Nian was playing on level one, but turns out it's operating in the stratosphere.】
【Xiao Nian’s intelligence is far from what it appears to be.】
...
Lin Qianyu smiled and accepted all the wood they had brought back. “Thanks for the effort. We don’t have much wood left at home—this’ll come in handy.”
The Arctic wolves might not have understood what a frisbee was, but when they saw her carving one earlier, they noticed it was made from wood. So, after failing to fetch the frisbee, they settled for second best and brought back “wood.”
Lin Qianyu let go of the lead wolf that had been lying in her lap and held up the frisbee in her hand. “Let’s keep playing frisbee. Remember, this is the one you’re supposed to fetch.”
She tapped the frisbee with her fingertip and deliberately waved it in front of each Arctic wolf to make sure they knew what it was. “Got it now?”
“Wu!”
Lin Qianyu raised her hand. “Alright! Get ready!”
“Awoo——!”
This time, all five Arctic wolves turned simultaneously and charged off in perfect sync toward the direction the frisbee had flown.
The Arctic fox and little snow leopard also sprinted after it. They seemed to be quite fond of the frisbee game too.
At the same time, a shadow swept past Lin Qianyu’s eyes.
Judging from earlier, the Arctic wolves wouldn’t be back anytime soon after chasing the frisbee.
Lin Qianyu picked up the piece of wood Xiao Nian had brought back, measured its size, then chopped it into several segments and began carefully shaping them with her axe.
“Chirp!” A clear birdcall drew her attention.
As Lin Qianyu looked up, she saw the Arctic owl in flight casually adjust its posture.
Wings spread, it skimmed diagonally over the treetops. While the frisbee was still a fair distance from the ground, it snatched it ahead of the Arctic wolves, claws locking tightly around it.
“……”
The lead wolf, charging at the front, halted as soon as the frisbee disappeared, making no attempt to chase further. But the Arctic wolves behind it couldn’t stop in time and all crashed into it one after another.
“Awooo!”“Ah—awo?!”
The Arctic wolves crashed into each other headfirst. Fortunately, it was snow or the pile-up would’ve been a serious mess.
One of the wolves lying on the ground looked up at the sky. Its gaze followed the snowy owl’s flight path, and its head traced a precise semicircle as it watched the frisbee return to Lin Qianyu’s hand.
Lin Qianyu held the frisbee and tried hard to suppress her laughter, but when she met the confused looks of the Arctic wolves, she couldn’t hold back and burst out laughing. “Haha!”
【Cheating!!! The little owl is cheating!】
【It’s called making full use of species advantage.】
【We’re doomed. Is Xiao Nian mad now? Will there be a fight?】
Xiao Nian, who had lost the frisbee, came running back with bared teeth, its fur puffed up like a charging white cotton ball, looking like it was storming over to confront the snowy owl.
Although all the fluffballs at home looked gentle, it was easy to forget they were still predators.
If one of them actually got angry, a fight would definitely draw blood.
Most importantly, this wouldn’t be an outsider fight anymore—it’d be an internal clash. No matter who got hurt, the fans watching the livestream would be heartbroken.
Thinking of all this, the viewers in the livestream grew increasingly nervous, fearing a bloody scene was about to unfold.
【It’s over—it’s over! Sister Lin, hurry and pick up the owl!】
【Let the owl fly a few laps first, please don’t fight, I beg you, don’t fight!!!】
【Help! I can’t watch! If a real fight breaks out, Snowball and Snow Cluster will definitely join in. And the wolf pack wouldn’t leave Xiao Nian to fight alone.】
Everyone frantically tried to talk Lin Qianyu into quickly separating the fluffballs before it was too late.
By then, Xiao Nian had already dashed up to Lin Qianyu. Just as everyone collectively sucked in a breath of tension, Xiao Nian abruptly dropped its fierce expression, flopped down neatly on the spot, and howled with a drawn-out wail: “Awoo, awoo… wuu! Awooo!”
That sound, the pitch rising and falling—it was the very essence of aggrieved.
And howling wasn’t enough. Xiao Nian rolled on the ground, rubbing its back into the snow. Its beautiful pale blue eyes widened, its nose wriggled, whimpering nonstop, and its little paws tugged at Lin Qianyu’s hand to beg for affection, lying limply like a spread-out white furry blanket.
Lin Qianyu soothed it gently, stroking its fur. “Good boy. We’ll go another round. I’ll throw more this time.”
Bullet comments: 【……】
【Something just doesn’t feel right?】
【No! Xiao Nian, get up! You’re a wolf, damn it, you’re a wolf! Who taught you to get angry for one second and then… not even stay angry?! Show some dignity as a wolf, please!】
【I honestly don’t even know what I was worried about just now.】
Lin Qianyu rubbed the Arctic wolf’s belly, then grabbed Xiao Nian’s paw and gave it a playful shake. “Wait for me a sec.”
The axe scraped against the wood, producing a constant rustling crunch. Wood chips flew everywhere.
Lin Qianyu lifted her arm to shield herself and pressed her elbow against Xiao Nian’s head. “Come a little closer this way—don’t let it get on you.”
“Wu…” The Arctic wolf hadn’t taken its eyes off her since she picked up the axe. Upon hearing her, it didn’t move its head, just scooted its body a bit, still staring intently.
All the fluffballs gathered around Lin Qianyu. In front, behind, left, and right—they nearly surrounded her completely.
The polar bear came out after finishing its canned food. Seeing the scene, it squeezed its way in too, lying down behind Lin Qianyu with its head resting on her shoulder, peering forward.Seeing that she was shaving wood, it licked its mouth out of boredom, clearly uninterested in the activity.
Polar bears are actually good runners too—they can reach speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour when sprinting.
Xuetuan simply didn’t want to move after eating its fill, lazily clinging to Lin Qianyu’s side.
By the time all the wooden blocks in her hands had been shaved into frisbees, the sky was already dim, and the sun had disappeared.
Lin Qianyu glanced at the time and realized it was still early. She couldn’t help but shake her head and sigh, “The weather on Polar Island really is unpredictable.”
She stood up, stomped her slightly numb legs, and held a stack of frisbees in her arms. “Come on, let’s play for a little longer, then go home and rest, okay?”
“Awooo!”
“Ying!”
The snowy owl standing on Lin Qianyu’s shoulder fluffed its feathers as well, clearly ready to take off.
“Start!” With Lin Qianyu’s command, the frisbees flew from her hands one after another.
To keep the fluffballs from bumping into each other, she deliberately threw the frisbees in different directions.
Watching the fluffy figures run off, Lin Qianyu clapped her hands, put her hands on her hips, tilted her head, and smiled. “Xuetuan, you’re not going to chase one?”
The polar bear, busy grooming itself, paused and didn’t even glance at the frisbees. It leaned over and licked her cheek.
—It was the first time the little animals on Polar Island had encountered frisbees.
Once they figured out how to play, every single one of them loved it and got wildly excited.
Lin Qianyu stayed outside playing with them until evening. Only when it was fully dark and she had to rely on her phone’s light to see did she finally call everyone back to rest.
Fetching frisbees required running back and forth, plus fending off companions trying to snatch them. You could say it was a serious drain on both stamina and brainpower.
The Arctic wolves were so exhausted they were panting heavily.
Lin Qianyu’s arm was sore from all the frisbee throwing. The fluffballs had all fallen asleep, and she sat on the bed, idly swiping at her phone screen with her fingertips.
She casually took a photo of the little snow leopard curled in her arms. As the camera panned upward, it captured the fluffy creatures sprawled out on the floor. She lowered her voice, but couldn’t hide the laughter in it: “Look how tired they all are.”
They didn’t even bother checking their surroundings—just collapsed and fell fast asleep.
It looked like the floor was almost fully covered by fur blankets.
The faint sound seemed to catch the little snow leopard’s attention. Its ears twitched even though its eyes stayed closed. “Wu…”
It didn’t open its eyes—just responded first.
Lin Qianyu pulled the little snow leopard closer into her arms, softly reassuring it, “It’s fine. Keep sleeping.”
The little snow leopard stepped on her arm with its paw, pressed its damp nose against her wrist, and didn’t move.
It had probably fallen back asleep.
Lin Qianyu yawned. Just as she was about to turn off her phone and go to sleep, she pressed the lock screen button—only for it to suddenly buzz twice.
Feng Jingye: 【Are you asleep? Can you come out for a moment?】
Lin Qianyu: “???”She typed two characters with her fingertips and then deleted them. Gently loosening the arm wrapped around the little snow leopard, she tiptoed through the fluffy creatures sprawled all over the floor, opened the door, and stepped outside.
Xuetuan, lying on the bed, rolled over. Seeing the faint light seeping through the door crack, it tilted its head.
…
“What did you want to talk about?” The night wind was stronger than during the day. Lin Qianyu pulled her down jacket tighter and asked, “Why are you out so late?”
Feng Jingye handed her a scarf.
Lin Qianyu froze. “You called me out this late just to return my scarf?”
“No, I’m taking you somewhere,” Feng Jingye raised his hand slightly, signaling her to put the scarf on.
As she unfolded the scarf to wear it, Lin Qianyu noticed—it didn’t seem to be the one she had given Feng Jingye.
Once she had the scarf on and her clothes adjusted snugly against the wind and snow, she asked, “Where to?”
Feng Jingye didn’t answer directly and instead played coy, “Look at the sky.”
Lin Qianyu looked up when he said that but didn’t notice anything unusual. Though the snowfall was light, the nighttime visibility was poor. Looking up, all she could see was darkness—nothing more.
Feng Jingye didn’t explain further. He simply extended his hand toward her, the palm of his thick mitten facing upward. “Come on, if we go now, the timing will be perfect.”
Lin Qianyu curled her lips slightly. “Alright.”
Not knowing where they were headed, she followed Feng Jingye’s lead and took the path he chose.
He walked ahead with his body slightly angled, blocking most of the wind-blown snow for her.
She wasn’t sure how long they walked. It felt like they were wandering aimlessly through the snowstorm—travelers who had blended perfectly into nature.
This area was already remote, and with no noticeable animal movement at night, it felt even quieter.
In contrast, the wind howling in her ears seemed to grow louder the longer it went on.
【What are they doing out in the middle of the night instead of sleeping—and they’re holding hands?!】
【This isn’t right. This is NOT right!!!】
【Night owl fans, our moment has come! I bet they’re sneaking off to eat something delicious (maybe even those gourmet treats they’re not allowed to eat on camera!)】
【Bro, you think of nothing but food.】
The livestream equipment followed behind them, swaying unsteadily in the headwind.
Lin Qianyu steadied herself against a tree. It felt like they were climbing a slope—like the short mountain she’d climbed before, with occasional flat ground along the way.
It was clear Feng Jingye had walked this path before. “Almost there. Just a little further.”
He traveled light, holding her hand carefully. “Every time I’ve come to Polar Island, I make time to come here. This place is basically the best viewpoint on the whole island.”
A viewpoint?
Lin Qianyu nodded, thinking it might be some high place that overlooked all of Polar Island.
But then again, she thought, with this kind of elevation, it wasn’t something you could just walk to in a few minutes at night.
Before she could figure it out, Feng Jingye stopped. Turning to her, he said, “Close your eyes first. Take off your goggles.”Lin Qianyu did as told. “Like this?”
“Mm.”
With her eyes closed, Lin Qianyu followed him forward, curiosity bubbling in her heart. What kind of scenery was worth Feng Jingye being this secretive?
They came to a stop at the top.
Feng Jingye observed for a moment, feeling that the timing was just right. He turned and circled behind Lin Qianyu, raised his hand, and pressed his fingers lightly against her forehead.
After a moment, Lin Qianyu heard his voice by her ear. “Open your eyes slowly,” he emphasized, “Very slowly.”
Following Feng Jingye’s instructions, Lin Qianyu gradually opened her eyes. His hand, still in front of her, partially blocked her vision.
When she blinked and adjusted to the light, Feng Jingye withdrew his hand.
The aurora stretched upward from the horizon, cutting through the dark night. Its silvery-white edges shimmered with a layer of pale blue, and the rays flowing outward from the glow formed delicate patterns, ethereal like drifting smoke.
The devoured moon was reduced to a faint sliver. Scattered starlight flickered across the sky. Snowflakes mingled with the falling stars—like meteors dissolving into the snow, vanishing in an instant.
The contours of the surrounding snow-capped mountains were outlined by the aurora. Shattered ice and wind-stirred ripples shimmered in the distance.
Further below, the trailing edge of the aurora glowed with a light green hue, blending seamlessly with the pale blue above.
This wasn’t simply a high-up vantage point; it felt more like the scenery itself had wrapped around them—they were immersed in it.
Feng Jingye looked at her, eyes bright with emotion. “Well? Isn’t it beautiful?”
“Mm.” Lin Qianyu’s voice softened unconsciously. “It’s very beautiful.”
The natural aurora wasn’t something you could see at just any moment. Seeing it in a video or photo couldn’t compare to witnessing it in person.
Lin Qianyu removed one glove. Snowflakes floated into her palm and melted instantly. She curled her fingers as if trying to catch the aurora resting on her hand.
“Actually, this isn’t the best time to see the aurora.”
Feng Jingye said this suddenly, without any particular reason.
Without lifting his head, he explained, “The best time to view the aurora is from October to March.”
Staring at the aurora as it blended with the glaciers and rivers into a breathtaking scene, Feng Jingye’s gloved hand clenched until the fabric warped, as if he had made some serious decision after much deliberation. Yet when he finally spoke, his voice was faint and uncertain. “Do you... have time?”
As if realizing how vague that sounded, he cleared his throat and, unable to resist sneaking a glance at the person beside him, quickly added, “When the best time for viewing the aurora comes, let’s come see it together again.”
Before Lin Qianyu could respond, he quickly continued, “I mean, the aurora now is nice too, it’s just... the timing isn’t exactly ideal.”
The more he explained, the worse it sounded. It seemed like he was trying to convey something, but the words came out strangely. Feng Jingye hesitated. “Mm… what I mean is...”
The more nervous he got, the faster he spoke. By the end, even he didn’t know what he was saying anymore, and his voice trailed off.
Lin Qianyu: “Alright.”
“…What?” Feng Jingye froze, his endless rambling abruptly cut short.
“I said alright.” Lin Qianyu’s eyes curved into a smile. The sky full of aurora light seemed to fall like a soft curtain around her. Her voice was gentle as she repeated her words once more.
Feng Jingye’s lips parted slightly. In Lin Qianyu’s eyes, he could see his own reflection. His heart pounded wildly, as if it might burst up from his chest and out his throat. His Adam’s apple bobbed nervously as even his breath grew heavier.
For a moment, the world around them consisted only of the soft wind, falling snow, and the thunderous beat of a racing heart. Not sure if it was nerves or happiness.
In any case, Feng Jingye’s mind was a complete mess right now—he didn’t know how to respond.
He just stood there, staring at Lin Qianyu, the corners of his lips slowly and unconsciously lifting high.
As their eyes met, Lin Qianyu couldn’t help but smile with her eyes too.
“Roar—!”
The roar of a polar bear suddenly rang out.
Feng Jingye instinctively tightened his grip on Lin Qianyu’s hand and, without a word, turned and started running with her.
“Eh?” Lin Qianyu was stunned for a moment, but followed him in a few hurried steps.
The polar bear in the back was trying its best to catch up. When it finally did, it saw Feng Jingye pulling Lin Qianyu away. It narrowed its eyes slowly, took a few deliberate steps forward—and then suddenly charged. “ROAR—!!!”
Lin Qianyu glanced at their clasped hands: “?”

【Is it possible... that the island master... Xue Tuan was only chasing you?】
【Xue Tuan: Let go of that hand! Let! Go!】
