Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Of course He Wei knew that Yan Huai was kissing her, but that clearly wasn’t what she had meant.
She had only recently entered the entertainment industry. Let alone kiss scenes, she had barely even filmed a few scenes involving hugging the opposite sex.
Last time she acted in a hugging scene with Su Mu, He Wei had even had to redo it once because she wasn’t used to it.
She didn’t have much experience. Even her breathing was uneven; within less than half a minute she was already struggling to breathe properly. Her chest felt blocked, a dull pressure she couldn’t release.
He Wei’s face turned bright red, and she quickly turned her head away from his kiss.
Fresh air immediately rushed into her mouth and nose. She took a few deep breaths, and the suffocating feeling from earlier gradually eased.
When Yan Huai had just been kissing her, her mind had gone blank for a few seconds.
During those seconds, He Wei only had one thought: would she die of suffocation because she didn’t know how to breathe properly during a kiss?
If that really happened, the main system would probably compensate her with an extra drama to console her.
But no matter how good the drama was, it couldn’t make up for the pain of restarting a save file.
He Wei let out a breath of relief.
Fortunately, she hadn’t died in Yan Huai’s kiss this time.
Her ears were still burning, and that heat spread to her face as well, the blush extending down to her neck.
Yan Huai raised his hand, gently brushing the stray strands of hair by her ear and tucking them behind it. His voice was very low, seemingly even hoarser than before. “You’ve never kissed him?”
The woman’s reaction was too inexperienced—so inexperienced that it didn’t look like she had any experience at all.
He Wei didn’t answer. Her head was still turned, and her gaze naturally fell on the clinic in the building next door.
Behind two glass doors, the clinic aunt was sitting at the entrance, pushing up her glasses and staring at them.
He Wei didn’t know how long she had been watching, but the only thing she was certain of was that the aunt had witnessed everything.
Even from this distance, she could feel the aunt’s gossip-filled gaze.
He Wei’s face grew even hotter.
She quickly turned her gaze back, shrank her body slightly, and stepped out from between Yan Huai and the car. “I’m going home.”
Yan Huai’s hand was still holding her wrist. “Answer my question first.”
He Wei’s hand hanging by her side tightened slightly.
She and Yan Chen had actually kissed before.
Over the many times she had replayed her save files, each run had a different entry point and progression, but no matter which one, it eventually reached the storyline where she and Yan Chen were together.
In the earlier timelines, Yan Chen was gentle and considerate on the surface—on the outside, he looked like a textbook perfect boyfriend.
He was handsome and outstanding, and He Wei had previously been focused on dealing with the female antagonist who kept tripping her up, so she hadn’t noticed Yan Chen’s scumbag nature and hadn’t resisted him much either.
They had indeed kissed.
And in every lifetime, it seemed they had kissed at least a few times. Not many, and never deeply.
The original He Wei was gentle and reserved, and the current He Wei had no desire for such intimacy either. So every time she kissed Yan Chen, it was only a fleeting brush of lips.
But even so—if added up, it was about ten times in total, and saying it out loud would probably still be enough to make Yan Huai angry.
He Wei coughed. She usually lied very smoothly, but she actually stuttered a bit when answering this question: “N-no… I didn’t.”
That stutter was basically a confession in itself.
An attempt to cover it up only made it more obvious.
Yan Huai pressed his lips together. There was still a lingering bitterness in his throat from the medicine he had been taking these past few days, but the corner of his mouth felt strangely sweet.
He Wei’s taste still lingered between his lips and teeth. Yan Huai frowned, and because of that answer, the fingers holding her wrist tightened slightly.
Her frame was small, with very little flesh on her body; her wrist was so thin it looked like it could snap with a single grip.
He Wei endured the pain for a few seconds, but in the end she couldn’t hold back and tried to pull her hand back slightly. “It hurts…”
Yan Huai’s hand suddenly loosened.
Looking down, he saw that her wrist was already circled in red.
Teng City had been warming up recently. During the day the temperature was close to 20°C, and there was no wind. Because of that, He Wei was wearing very little today—only a white chiffon shirt.
The sleeves were long-sleeved, and earlier in the car she had been afraid of being recognized by Yan Chen, so she had deliberately unbuttoned both cuffs and pushed them up to her forearms. Now, only then did she remember and quickly pulled the sleeves back down.
Her movements were fairly quick, but her left wrist still hurt from where he had gripped it, so it took her a few extra seconds.
Yan Huai’s brows furrowed even deeper. “Does it hurt a lot?”
He Wei let out a soft “mm.”
Her voice was low and faint, dispersing as soon as it left her lips.
Yan Huai didn’t speak.
He Wei also didn’t know what to say, so she lowered her head and began buttoning her shirt cuffs.
Using one hand to fasten buttons wasn’t very convenient, especially trying to button the right sleeve with her left hand.
She tried twice but couldn’t get it done.
Just as she was about to try a third time, her right wrist was gently pulled over. The man extended his fingers and patiently, carefully helped her button them.
He Wei looked up slightly and saw Yan Huai with his head lowered. His gaze was fixed on her cuffs, his expression unexpectedly gentle.
She couldn’t help but press her lips together and cautiously asked, “…Are you not angry anymore?”
As soon as she spoke, the button was finished. Yan Huai lifted his eyes to look at her.
He didn’t immediately let go, instead tracing along her cuff, moving upward inch by inch. After pausing for half a second at her shoulder, his hand shifted to the back of her neck. He said slowly, word by word, “Angry.”
How could he not be angry?
He knew he shouldn’t interfere with He Wei’s past, but the moment he thought of her being intimate with someone else—even in the past—the possessiveness deep in his bones began to roar and act up.
Yan Huai shifted his gaze away from her eyes, then his hand on the back of her neck tightened slightly. He Wei was pulled forward a little. The man lowered his head slightly and pressed a very light kiss against the corner of her lips. “How did you kiss?”
“…Just like this.”
“How many times?”
“……”
He Wei didn’t dare say ten times. She blinked and said, “Only… three or four times.”
“That’ll be made up for today.”
As soon as he finished speaking and was about to lower his head again, He Wei quickly turned her face away. Her breathing was unsteady. “Someone…”
Yan Huai’s kiss indeed did not land.
After a few seconds of silence, He Wei felt herself being gently pulled into an embrace. The man rested his chin on her shoulder and spoke softly, almost whispering, “He Wei?”
“…Mm?”
“Be with me.”
“……”
He Wei didn’t answer.
The man didn’t rush her either. His hand moved down from her neck, lightly stroking her long hair. “I only have you as a woman.”
He Wei’s fingers curled slightly.
Dating Yan Huai was not part of her plan.
Not to mention she currently had no way to explain things on Yan Chen’s side. Even if she could, given that he and Yan Chen were biological brothers, there would be countless complications in the future.
On Yan Ruojing’s side, and among Yan Chen’s friends… this was absolutely not a small matter.
Although if she stripped away all those factors, He Wei might really be able to agree without hesitation.
But those conditions couldn’t actually be stripped away.
He Wei pulled out of his embrace. “I’m not ready yet…”
“What do you need to prepare for?”
Yan Huai completely let go of her. He looked down at her, his gaze heavy. “Before you were with Yan Chen, you—”
“Yan Huai,” He Wei interrupted him. She let out a breath, the blush on her face already fading completely. “Do you think it’s appropriate for us to be together right now?”
Yan Huai countered, “Why wouldn’t it be?”
“If you’re with me, won’t you think of Yan Chen?”
“Think about how many times I kissed him.”
“How many times we slept together.”
“Or whether you’ll even want to know if I ever carried his child—”
Yan Huai frowned and cut her off. “He Wei.”
He Wei’s eyes were slightly wet and stinging. She lowered her head a little. “When you no longer mind it, then come talk to me about this.”
After she finished speaking, she turned away without looking back. She had only taken half a step when she was pulled into an embrace from behind again.
He Wei suddenly felt like laughing.
If anyone—especially that gossiping aunt at the clinic—saw them like this, they probably wouldn’t think they were about to get together, but rather a couple in the middle of a breakup.
Just as the thought rose and the corners of her lips barely lifted, she heard the man’s deep voice by her ear:
“You clearly know I can’t not mind it.”
“So…”
“No reason.”
Yan Huai kissed the side of her face lightly. “Be with me.”
He Wei frowned. She felt that Yan Huai might not have understood what she meant.
But in the next second, she heard him say again, “It doesn’t matter whether you’ve kissed him or done anything with him.”
The hand that was holding her waist loosened slightly and then lifted again, tilting her chin so her face turned toward him. “I only want you.”
He Wei’s eyes turned slightly red.
She had originally thought that with Yan Huai’s personality, he would at least need a few quiet days, a few days to think things over.
After thinking it through, he might actually let her go.
That would’ve been fine too—better than her sinking deeper and deeper, only to eventually realize that Yan Huai couldn’t cross the barrier in his own heart.
So his reaction today was a surprise to her.
A very big surprise.
He Wei even thought she had misheard. She blinked several times before finally reacting.
Her heart began to pound wildly. The man’s gaze grew deeper and deeper, the temperature in his eyes seemingly rising invisibly, as if it wanted to burn a hole through her face.
He Wei quickly turned her face away again. She exhaled, then lowered her head to pry at Yan Huai’s hand.
Yan Huai wasn’t holding her very tightly, so with just a slight struggle she managed to break free from his arms. His embrace went empty. He lifted his eyes and saw He Wei already running a few meters away like a frightened rabbit.
As if afraid he wouldn’t hear her, she turned back and deliberately raised her voice a little: “I… I’m going home.”
She didn’t give him an answer.
But at least she didn’t refuse again.
Yan Huai felt both irritated and faintly restless.
He raised a hand to press his brow, and as his fingers lowered, he casually loosened his tie.
At that moment, his phone vibrated. A WeChat message from Cheng Yan came in—
“By the way, Ah Huai, when you used my account these past few days, did you see the message from Nuo Nuo about adding He Wei’s WeChat?”
Cheng Yan: “Nuo Nuo asked me today if I added He Wei, I checked my contacts, and I didn’t see her at all.”
At the same time, just as He Wei stepped into the elevator, she also received two WeChat messages.
The first was a contact card recommendation from Cheng Nuo, followed immediately by a message:
“Wei Wei, my brother seems like he didn’t add you last time. He’s pretty unreliable, don’t worry, I already scolded him… Wei Wei baby, try adding him again this time.”
