Chapter 1

Early autumn was slightly chilly. In a large mansion on Monster Mountain, green bamboo swayed in chaotic patterns.

The elders of the Bai family were all gathered around a large stone table, their eyes filled with worry as they stared at the center of the table.

In the middle of the table sat a chubby little white kitten, eyes wet and wide, staring back at them.

“Lili.”

The eldest of the elders looked at the kitten in the center with a heart full of pity.

The kitten's name was Bai Lili, his own grandson. If the circumstances hadn’t forced them, he truly wouldn’t want to send his own grandson down the mountain.

“Your father and I have already packed your things.”

The old man softened his voice and asked, “Do you still remember what you have to do after going down the mountain?”

Bai Lili tilted his head and chirped, “Find my fiancé!”

“And then?” the old man continued asking.

Bai Lili thought for a moment: “Find the fiancé and have him help me take human form!”

He was already seventeen. Other cats could take human form long ago—only he was still stuck in his kitten form, unable to transform successfully.

Grandpa said that when he was young, he was betrothed in a child marriage and had a fiancé. As long as he found this fiancé, he could successfully take human form.

“The final step?”

The old man guided him patiently—this last step was crucial, and his good grandson must not forget.

The kitten, having been taught for days, puffed up his round little face and said fiercely: “After I take human form, dump the fiancé!”

That fiancé, according to what Grandpa and the others said, had treated him badly when they were little. So the ultimate goal of going down the mountain this time was to break his fiancé’s heart in return.

He was going to be a heartbreaker cat!

The elders around him clapped their hands as soon as he answered correctly.

“Lili is amazing, this time he remembered all the steps.”

Bai Lili’s eyes curved with joy from the praise. He had a terrible memory and often forgot things, so everyone had spent many days teaching him the three steps of going down the mountain.

He had even written them out by hand in his room several times.

He remembered these three steps firmly and even wrote them down in a notebook to remind himself not to forget.

The elders repeatedly reminded him that once he successfully transformed, he must come back and not linger in the world below the mountain.

But watching Bai Lili raise his paws and promise several times, the elders still found it hard to let go.

The mountain restriction on Monster Mountain allowed only one monster to go down the mountain each year; they couldn’t accompany Lili.

“Lili, some of your older brothers and sisters went down the mountain years ago. We don’t know how they’re doing. After you get down there, remember to find them and let them take care of you.”

Bai Lili looked confused: “How am I supposed to find my brothers and sisters?”

The elders exchanged glances, feeling a bit troubled.

Bai Lili was too weak; he couldn’t sense the aura of his older brothers and sisters.

Among this generation of cubs, Bai Lili was the weakest. He nearly died at birth, and even nearing eighteen years old, he still couldn’t transform.

That was why the elders could no longer wait and made him go alone to find his fiancé down the mountain.

That fiancé was assigned to Bai Lili by the fortune teller, said to be his fate.

“Got it.”

Grandma Bai turned her head and instructed her second daughter: “Go to the back mountain and send a signal so Lili’s older siblings know that it’s Lili going down this time.”

Because he was the youngest and the cutest, Bai Lili had always been the family’s beloved little pet cat.

The older brothers and sisters who had gone down the mountain before had spoiled Bai Lili endlessly while still on the mountain.

They often fought among themselves just to hold their little brother a little longer.

The signal flare was quickly sent up. It was a unique warning method of Monster Mountain, and the Bai family’s older siblings who had gone down would all see it.

Grandma Bai personally tied the little bundle on Bai Lili and kissed his head.

“Lili, if you really can’t transform, it’s okay. Come back to the mountain and Grandma will think of another plan.”

“Don’t be like your brothers and sisters who forget to come home after going down.”

Bai Lili tilted his face up. Seeing the tears welling in Grandma’s eyes, he stood on his tiptoes and gave her a comforting kiss.

“I will come home.”

Bai Lili promised seriously, “And I’ll bring gifts back for you all!”

The elders standing at the mountain gate took turns hugging the little kitten they had spoiled for over ten years, holding back their sorrow as they let him go.“Lili is still so small. If he goes down the mountain, will he suffer?”

“He can’t transform and can only carry a small bundle. I still have many things I want to bring him, but can’t.”

“Bai Lin is the oldest. If he can’t find Lili and comes back to the mountain, I’ll skin him!”

“Exactly! If any of these kids dare to let our Lili suffer, I’ll pluck all their fur clean.”

The elders each voiced their opinions, reaching unanimous agreement.

Meanwhile, Bai Lili, carrying his bundle down the mountain with a map hanging around his neck, was trying to find his way.

This search lasted a whole week.

Because he had never traveled far, this little kitten’s terrible sense of direction was only now fully revealed.

Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, over a month had passed.

There was no more round, unable-to-transform kitten on Monster Mountain, but in City A, there was a little gray, dirty kitten.

That little dirty kitten was Bai Lili. At this moment, Bai Lili was sitting right under a wheel, stunned as he watched his enamel bowl with a floral pattern being ruthlessly crushed into pieces.

“My bowl.”

Coming back to his senses, Bai Lili said blankly, “That was the last one.”

Without it, he would have to drink water directly from the faucet with his mouth from now on.

Just as Bai Lili was stunned, inside the large vehicle that had hit him and crushed his last bowl, an old voice sounded.

“What happened?! Did you hit something?”

“Butler, I think... I think it was a kitten.”

The driver’s voice trembled: “He was too small. I really didn’t see him.”

“Stop standing there! Go check if the cat is dead! If not, pick him up and take him to the hospital later,” the butler said angrily. “If the cat dies, you know the consequences.”

The driver’s face turned pale. He nodded and got out to check on the cat.

The master was still lying in the car.

His condition was not good, and they were rushing to a private hospital. If at this critical moment, he ran over and killed a cat, it would be a terrible omen.

The superstitious butler would never let him off.

When the driver got out of the car, his legs were trembling. He cautiously walked to the front wheel, silently praying—

“Don’t die! You have to hold on. I have old people above and young below to support. I’m the only one earning a living. Please, Cat Ancestor, you must be okay.”

Maybe because his prayer was sincere, when he crouched down in front of the wheel, he actually saw a little kitten sitting there unharmed.

The driver immediately breathed a sigh of relief and, not caring that the kitten was dirty, directly picked him up and put him in the car.“Butler, the cat isn’t dead.”

After saying these words, the driver saw the butler’s expression visibly soften a bit.

“Bring him up.”

“Yes.”

The driver briefly reported to the butler, then sat back in the driver’s seat and focused on driving.

Bai Lili, who was suddenly picked up: “Meow?”

Where is this?!

Sitting in the car, Bai Lili tightened the little bundle on his back with his paws, then tilted his head back and began to look around at the surroundings.

The car was large, and there was a single bed placed in the back. Someone was lying on the bed, but Bai Lili was too short; even after craning his neck, he couldn’t see what the person looked like.

Bai Lili stretched out his two paws and tried hard to stand up. He couldn’t see the person’s face clearly, but the aura coming from him was cold—an abnormal kind of cold.

“Meow!”

Bai Lili jumped, but instead of landing on the bed, he landed on the leg of the elderly man in a suit sitting beside the bed.

The old man looked down. When his gaze met that of the dirty little kitten, his usually stern face didn’t show any disgust; instead, it softened somewhat.

The old master had said before he passed away that whenever their family encountered a cat, they must treat it kindly. This was also why, in such an urgent situation, he insisted on bringing the cat up.

“He’s still just a little kitten and so dirty. Was he abandoned?”

The old man said this while using warm water from the car to gently wipe him down.

Bai Lili was a clean-loving cat and didn’t resist being cleaned at all.

As a thank you, when the old man wasn’t paying attention, Bai Lili successfully jumped onto the bed and used his paws to send a little spiritual energy to the man.

Although the man’s eyes were closed, after seeing his face, Bai Lili was stunned for a few seconds, as if he’d never seen anything like it before.

“Hey, get down quickly.”

The old man saw him hopping around on the bed and was sweating with worry: “My master is still unconscious, kitty, don’t step on him.”

Bai Lili, who had just sent the spiritual energy, tilted his head innocently and jumped back into the old man’s arms, letting him hold him: “Meow meow.”

I’m not heavy, I just look round and fluffy.

The old man’s heart softened inexplicably as he looked into Bai Lili’s big, wet, beautiful amber eyes.

“You, you’re so obedient-looking, why are you so naughty?”

The old man petted his white fur, and his scolding was soft and gentle.“Master has a bad temper. Luckily, he’s not awake; otherwise, I can’t guarantee I’d still be able to put you back in the car.”

Hearing this, Bai Lili turned back to glance at the master the old man mentioned.

Such a handsome master — could he really have a bad temper? The appearance-obsessed little kitten was a bit doubtful.

The car sped along.

After about ten more minutes, they finally arrived at the private hospital.

“Kitty, I’m going to have someone take you to a pet hospital for a checkup. I need to accompany the master out of the car.”

“Be good, and from now on, you’ll be our family’s cat.”

The old man handed Bai Lili over to a bodyguard traveling with them, instructing him to take the cat for a checkup. The old man stayed by the master’s side and entered the hospital ahead.

Bai Lili watched the old man and the handsome master disappear, then patted the bodyguard: “Meow.”

Put me down!

I’m not going for a checkup.

He knew that pet hospitals in the city would neuter little kittens!

Earlier in the car, Bai Lili had been cleaned and fed.

He generously thought that made up for his enamel bowl getting crushed.

Now, they were even.

Bai Lili struggled, trying to jump to the ground. He didn’t want to be anyone’s house cat; he still wanted to find his fiancé.
