Chapter 2

The bodyguard was very strong; Bai Lili’s struggling was completely useless.

“Be obedient.”

The square-faced, serious bodyguard looked down at this tiny little kitten no bigger than a palm, and painfully tried to soothe him: “When we get to the hospital, I’ll buy you some canned food.”

Bai Lili shook his little head, refusing to be tempted by canned food.

No amount of canned food could trick him into going to the hospital to be neutered! He was a little tomcat and would never be a eunuch.

Just as the bodyguard forced him into the car and they arrived at the hospital entrance, the bodyguard opened the car door, ready to take the cat down.

Bai Lili, who had been resting and conserving energy all the way, suddenly snarled fiercely and leapt into the air: “Meow-ow!”

He was running away.

Bai Lili seized the opportunity perfectly; he was small, and jumping out the car door was very easy.

The bodyguard never expected that the little kitten who had been obedient all along would suddenly escape prison; he was stunned for a few seconds, but by the time he chased after him, he simply couldn’t catch him.

That little kitten ran like a tiny cannonball being fired; his round little body didn’t slow him down at all. His short legs pitter-pattered quickly, and in no time, he vanished from the bodyguard’s sight.

The bodyguard who failed to catch him turned pale: “How am I supposed to explain this to the steward now?”

The bodyguard’s troubles were something Bai Lili didn’t understand.

After successfully running away, Bai Lili hid himself in a flowerbed in the park and plopped down.

“So tired.”

Bai Lili sat on some fallen green leaves, used his little paws to bring the tied bundle in front of him, and skillfully took out a fruit from the bundle, stuffing it into his mouth.

The fruit was juicy and quenched his thirst.

However, Bai Lili checked the remaining stock in his bundle and sighed worriedly.

“Only three left.”

His older brothers and sisters still hadn’t found him.

While Bai Lili was sighing at the stick figure, an old gray-and-white cat suddenly walked over and called out to him.

The old cat meowed at him, “You little fool, any cat who leaves home is a stray. Is your fiancé a house cat? House cats look down on strays. You’ll end up single for life.”

The old cat saw this newcomer kitten was really too young and probably didn’t understand common sense about stray cats. So, patiently, he curled up in front of him and gave him a proper lesson.

The old cat said many house cats now have jobs — like working in cat cafes or livestreaming to look cute for their owners. Stray kittens can only place bowls on the street begging passersby for cat food.

Bai Lili had no money, and there was no food left in his bundle.

He also wanted to work.

While Bai Lili was thinking about how to get a job, the old cat kept chattering.

“Kitten, we have Cat Brother protecting this area. If you want to roam here, you have to pay respect to Cat Brother, got it—hey, what are you doing?”

Bai Lili quickly tied the bundle on his back and crisply announced, “I’m going to work!”

The old cat stared blankly as the tiny kitten went off with his bundle to find work. He tried to hold back but couldn’t help pouring cold water on him.

“Kitten, stray cats can’t find jobs. We don’t have health certificates, cat cafes won’t take us, nobody watches us selling cuteness, we can only beg.”

Bai Lili shook his head; he wouldn’t beg.

Dad said little kittens must be self-reliant. Though he had been spoiled and delicate since young, he was actually very strong-willed — not only strong-willed, but also very proud.

He couldn’t do begging and getting things without effort.

After making up his mind, Bai Lili stepped forward with his short legs, bravely embarking on the road to find a job.City A is the most prosperous city and also the place where Bai Lili’s fiancé lives.

Outside the cat café, Bai Lili stood up straight, politely pawing at the door and meowing to ask.

He didn’t go inside but just stuck his little head in, seeking permission.

Bai Lili’s meowing attracted the waiter, but when the waiter saw him, she ignored what he was meowing and directly shooed him away.

“Don’t come in.”

The waiter frowned, looking displeased: “All the cats inside are purebred cats with vaccinations. Stray cats outside carry bacteria and viruses, so they can’t come in.”

The waiter only shooed him away without touching him. The cats in the café were very valuable; the owner spent a lot buying them.

The one in front of her, though quite cute-looking, didn’t look like a house cat and probably wasn’t even vaccinated.

Such a cat, the waiter dared not let in. If it got the other cats sick, the owner would definitely make her pay.

Bai Lili was called a stray cat and wasn’t allowed near the café. He tilted his head up, his wet amber eyes looking a bit sad.

I’m a little monster cat inside, no viruses.

Bai Lili’s meows were ignored by the waiter, who turned and walked away. After going back inside, she closed the door and watched him carefully, as if afraid he would sneak in.

Bai Lili understood the waiter’s rejection. He lowered his head in disappointment, raised a paw to rub his eyes, and left with his bundle.

Besides this cat café, Bai Lili ran to many others, but no owner wanted him. Every time he approached, he was mercilessly driven away.

“Where did this stray cat come from? Get lost quickly.”

When passing the last cat café, Bai Lili wasn’t chased away.

Not because the owner wanted him, but because this remote cat café had been abandoned.

Inside the café, several cats lay listless. The front door was locked, so the cats couldn’t get out, and Bai Lili couldn’t get in.

Through a glass door, Bai Lili saw the floor was especially dirty with lots of poop. The cats huddled on chairs, on the floor, near the door — all were pitifully thin.

“Meowow?”

Bai Lili meowed strongly through the door crack: “Isn’t this a cat café? Why isn’t the owner feeding you?”

A tabby cat by the door saw the little one and answered weakly: “It’s a cat café. The owner is gone. No one feeds us, and we can’t get out either.”

“If we stay locked up any longer, we’ll all die.”

The tabby meowed: “Many of us haven’t eaten or drunk water for days, and several cats are sick.”

Bai Lili’s heart softened. Although he didn’t understand why the owner abandoned them, seeing this, he immediately untied his bundle.

The last bit of food in the bundle was pushed through the door crack by Bai Lili.

“This is fruit I brought from home. Eat it.”

Bai Lili pushed the fruit with his paw for them to share.

But two cats vomited after only a few bites. They had been locked up too long without food or water and were sick.

Seeing their painful vomiting made Bai Lili very distressed.

“Wait for me!”

Bai Lili meowed loudly and turned to run.

After an unknown amount of time, just as the cats inside thought the little one wouldn’t come back, suddenly a noise sounded outside.

Bai Lili, carrying a big brick, was running hard this way. He was smart enough to find a rope and tie the brick to his back so it wouldn’t fall off.

After bringing the brick over, Bai Lili took a small breath.

“I, I’ll save you.”

After a short rest, he told the cats inside to move away.

The oldest tabby led the others backward.

Bai Lili lifted the brick above his head, using his strength as a little monster, and fiercely smashed it against the door.

“Bang—”

The glass shattered everywhere.The cats who had been locked up for days looked at the broken glass, then at the little one, and couldn’t hold back their tears.

“Thank you.”

The cats circled around the broken glass and thanked Bai Lili, “If it weren’t for you, we definitely would have died.”

Bai Lili scratched his head and smiled sheepishly, “It’s nothing, we’re all cats, no need to say thanks.”

The saved cats didn’t say thank you anymore; instead, they began to loyally call him “Big Brother.”

Watching the cats firmly calling him “Big Brother” as they followed behind, Bai Lili felt a bit troubled.

The little brothers were calling him that.

“Big Brother, can you take us to find some food? We have no experience wandering.”

“Big Brother, can you take Dian Dian and Da Hui to see a doctor? They’re both sick.”

“Big Brother, where will we sleep tonight?”

Bai Lili, a little kitten who had nothing and was used to sleeping under overpasses, now had to take care of several abandoned pet cats.

It really makes a cat want to go bald.
