Chapter 21

Inside the cardboard box was Bai Li, who didn't know who was unpacking the box. He nervously held his breath, not even daring to make a meowing sound.

The tape on the box was torn open. The person unpacking was about to continue opening it when a sharp, urgent ringing suddenly sounded.

"Tán gē, Tán gē!"

The person standing at the door was familiar from the voice—it was the manager’s voice.

Seeing the situation, Tan Yi took a few steps over and removed the cotton balls stuffed in his nose.

He had caught a cold these past few days and was having trouble breathing. For comfort, he had temporarily stuffed his nose.

The carved wooden door was opened from the inside. Dizzy and foggy-headed from the cold, Tan Yi opened the door without any defense.

At the same time, Bai Li took advantage of the moment and crawled out of the box.

He stealthily crept along the wall, trying to sneak out.

The door opened.

Standing in front of Tan Yi was not his manager at all but a girl wearing a duckbill cap with long hair.

The girl was holding a phone. The moment Tan Yi saw the phone, he immediately understood that the previous calls of "Tan ge" were a recording.

Without any nonsense or questions, Tan Yi’s face darkened as he directly tried to close the door.

"Tan ge."

The girl pressed the door, raising an unremarkable face: "Don't misunderstand, I'm not a secret lover."

Tan Yi’s eyes were cold, giving the expression like "do you think I'm an idiot?"

If she wasn’t a secret lover, how could she have gotten to his door?

The girl was strong. She stared at Tan Yi’s face with an admiring look: "Tan ge, I have a job. I need to take you to a place."

Tan Yi didn’t want to go anywhere now. He just wanted to return to his room and then complain to the property management.

When he moved in, the security had been hyped up, saying that living here, there was no fear of paparazzi or stalkers, with 24-hour protection to ensure their safety.

But the result? In less than three months living here, dangerous people had already gotten close to him.

"Get lost."

Tan Yi gripped the door. If he weren’t sick, he would have dragged the person out on the spot.

"I’ll get lost. I’ll leave right away."“Tan ge, cooperate with me a little. I specifically took a job here just to knock on your door.”

“Let’s... leave together.”

As the girl spoke, the blade of a dagger was already pressed against Tan Yi.

If it weren’t for the dagger’s position being too sinister—just a few inches lower, near an unspeakable place—Tan Yi wouldn’t have been able to endure it.

Tempting fate for a moment, the aftermath would be a disaster.

Tan Yi was weak now; he didn’t want to risk being neutered accidentally.

Although, at the pet hospital, there was a doctor who smiled kindly but always tried to neuter him.

“Put the knife away. Where are we going? I’ll go with you.”

As Tan Yi said he would go with the girl, Bai Li, who secretly watched this scene, was so frightened his eyes went wide.

There was a knife!

That knife was still pressed against Tan Yi’s waist and abdomen.

The frightened little kitten purred to soothe himself, then suddenly, courage surged and he chased after them.

The streetlight outside cast soft light.

Bai Li was small, hiding perfectly in the shadows.

Tan Yi, who was being forced to go with the dagger against him, naturally had a way to escape; he could shift into his true form at any moment and run.

But he suddenly didn’t want to run; he wanted to see who had the guts to mess with him.

“Hey, tell me, who went through all this trouble to make you take me there?”

“President Zhou? Or President Wang?”

The girl remained silent. Bai Li, hiding in the dark, didn’t dare to make a sound.

Recalling the aura of the black-footed cat brother, he tightened his little round face and tried to make his eyes look fierce.

When Tan Yi was forced by the girl to walk to the community gate and was about to get into the car, Bai Li finally couldn’t hold back and made a threatening growl from his throat.

“Meow-ao—”

Attack!

Bai Li rushed out, trying to scratch the girl who was also about to get in the car.

Suddenly, a sharp, intense spotlight flashed over.

The light came from a black Maybach. A person stepped out from the car, dressed in a suit, face cold as water.

“Meow.”

Sir.Bai Li stared blankly at the person approaching, not knowing why Sir was here.

Xie Chen, who had checked all the surveillance, showed a barely perceptible relaxation on his face after seeing the little kitten safe and sound.

“Lili, come here.”

Bai Li glanced at him, then at the car.

With Sir here, it seemed no cat was needed to fight the bad guys.

“Meow meow!”

Understanding this, Bai Li quickly ran to Xie Chen, pawing at his pants and climbing into his arms, his plump little butt sitting on Xie Chen’s arm.

“There are bad people.”

Bai Li tapped Xie Chen with his paw, seriously reminding him: “We need to call the police.”

The girl in the duckbill cap, shrouded in the strong light, was tense all over, the dagger’s tip almost piercing Tan Yi’s skin.

Tan Yi held his breath, eyes fixed on his waist.

He had a problem—he fainted at the sight of blood!!!

“Move the knife a little,” Tan Yi’s hoarse, sick throat didn’t sound pleasant. “If you hurt me, you can’t afford the compensation. I have insurance all over my body. It’s expensive.”

“Shut up,” the girl snapped in low anger.

She looked up and stared at Xie Chen, planning to bluff her way out: “Please move aside, you’re blocking my way.”

Xie Chen’s gaze didn’t change: “Let Tan Yi get out of the car.”

Of course, the girl refused.

She had worked here for three months and finally got a chance today to get Tan Yi out while he was feeling unwell.

If she let him go now, her three months of work would be for nothing!

Tan Yi couldn’t say anything more, so Xie Chen stepped back a few steps. He had bodyguards with him.

In this situation, he didn’t need to act himself.

“Lili, stop looking.”

Xie Chen covered Bai Li’s eyes with his hand, afraid he would see something he shouldn’t.

The little one was timid. If he got scared and teary like last time, it would be hard to calm him down.

Though his eyes were covered, Bai Li still tried to peek through Xie Chen’s fingers.

The reason was simple: this Tan Yi gave him a very familiar feeling.

But the forgetful Bai Li hadn’t figured out exactly where he felt this familiarity yet.“Let him go.”

The bodyguard stepped closer to the car. The girl panicked and threatened him to back off. The dagger’s tip accidentally cut Tan Yi’s skin. Tan Yi’s face darkened, and this time he couldn’t hold back.

“Shit.”

Suppressing the urge to faint from blood, he cursed: “I told you, I’m expensive!”

If he got injured, she couldn’t afford to pay.

With his narcissism at full throttle, Tan Yi suddenly grabbed the girl’s wrist. This time he didn’t hesitate or look for chances; he just wanted to slap the one who cut him.

The girl was attacked from both front and back. Her plan to take Tan Yi away was obviously impossible.

“I’ll let you go today.”

She was smart, knowing she couldn’t succeed once discovered. She threw down the knife, quickly pulled her wrist free from Tan Yi’s grasp, and turned to run.

Thud—

She ran, but it was too late.

Tan Yi, enduring dizziness, kicked her down: “I don’t hit women, but you’re an exception today.”

Because anyone who tried to kidnap him, regardless of gender, would be beaten as a kidnapper.

Bai Li stared at Tan Yi, unable to look away.

Seeing this, Xie Chen calmly covered the little cat’s eyes again.

“I called the police. Lili, let’s go back.”

“Meow meow—”

Wait.

Bai Li pawed at Xie Chen’s hand and pointed at Tan Yi: “He saw me.”

A few seconds later.

Bai Li announced again: “He fainted.”

But before fainting, Tan Yi’s eyes were wide open, looking very surprised.

Xie Chen glanced over. The bodyguards had already subdued the girl.

As for Tan Yi, he simply fainted from blood.

Of course, besides fainting from blood, he was also a bit shocked.

The brother he had been desperately searching for seemed to appear in front of him, but he hadn’t taken two steps before his vision darkened and he passed out.

Before fainting, Tan Yi’s hands were stretched forward.

Lili. Why hasn’t his Lili come over yet?

“I’ll have the bodyguard take him to the hospital.”

Xie Chen squeezed Bai Li’s paw and rubbed the soft pink pads: “It’s late. I’ll take you home to eat dried fish.”

On one side was Sir plus dried fish; on the other was the familiar-feeling Tan Yi. Bai Li faced a difficult choice.

Xie Chen lowered his eyes, meeting the little kitten’s beautiful eyes that couldn’t hide his feelings, and said softly, “Lili, did you come to me today for something?”

Reminded by Xie Chen, Bai Li indeed shifted his attention.

“I found a job! I need to sign a contract, and I want you to help me look at it.”

“Okay, I’ll help you look at it when we get home.”

In a few words from Xie Chen, Bai Li no longer cared about Tan Yi, who was being helped up by the bodyguards. He clung to Xie Chen’s large hand, his amber eyes filled only with Xie Chen.

Xie Chen liked it best when he looked at him like this—so pure and clear, filled entirely with himself.

The car started moving.

There were surveillance cameras, two bodyguards staying behind, and the police who would arrive later to investigate the situation clearly.

No need for Xie Chen to stay any longer.

Not long after.

Xie Chen returned to the villa carrying the little kitten who loved to sleep in the car.

Xie Bo saw the white little kitten sound asleep and finally relaxed.

“Luckily, Lili came back.”

The wrinkles at Xie Bo’s eyes gathered as he smiled: “Sir, do you want to wake him? I want to make some cat food for him.”

He had specially learned how to make cat food from online videos, using only the best ingredients.

After all, the Xie family was not short of money. Sir’s wealth was practically unspendable; his salary was high and no one else spent it. Now that the money was spent on the little kitten, they were all happy.

What’s the point of making money if not to spend it?

Sir hasn’t married a wife yet. Now there’s only the little kitten at home, so the little kitten has to bear the heavy responsibility of spending money.

Sleeping sweetly in his dream, Bai Li was completely unaware that he was about to change from a working cat to a spending cat.

His face buried in Xie Chen’s chest, his breathing transmitted through the fabric, making Xie Chen’s whole body feel warm.

“Go make a portion.”

Xie Chen ordered softly: “I’ll take him back to the bedroom.”

“All right.”Xie Bo happily went to make cat food, and he truly made it luxuriously. The mineral water that Xie Chen drank—over a thousand yuan a bottle—was now directly used to soak Bai Li’s milk paste.

In the bedroom, a prepared cat bed was now placed on Xie Chen’s big bed.

The cat bed was soft, with a small quilt draped over it.

Xie Chen put the sleeping little kitten inside and took off the cloth pouch hanging from his neck.

Inside the pouch was a contract.

Under the bedroom light, Xie Chen read the contract carefully, word by word. Beside him, the little kitten slept obediently, covering half his face with a pink paw pad, looking adorably unaware.

After reading the entire contract, Xie Chen found no errors himself, but being cautious, he took a photo of the contract and sent it to a top lawyer.

The lawyer reviewed it and gave a reply.

“The contract is fine, but the party B in this contract is a cat?”

Xie Chen replied politely.

The implication was that there was nothing more to discuss.

The lawyer, understanding the hint, didn’t continue talking. Confirming the contract was correct, Xie Chen signed his name as the cat’s guardian.

After signing the contract, only Bai Li needed to press his paw print.

“Lili.”

Hearing footsteps outside, he lowered his head and called the sleeping little kitten: “Do you want to get up and eat something?”

Bai Li blinked groggily and didn’t fuss when woken.

He stretched, extended his paws, and under Xie Chen’s gaze, slowly sat up.

“Meow.”

Sleepy.

A smile flickered in Xie Chen’s eyes as he ruffled the kitten’s head: “Are you hungry?”

Bai Li naturally grabbed his finger: “Hungry.”

Both sleepy and hungry.

Hearing this, Xie Chen commented: “Poor thing.”

The poor Bai Li climbed a few steps onto Xie Chen’s lap, his half-awake eyes moist.

“Meow meow.”

The kitten couldn’t move anymore.

Suddenly waking from a dream, he was still a bit dizzy.

Xie Chen held the little kitten who couldn’t move, took the contract, and directly carried him to the dining room.
