Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Bai Li’s eyes were vacant, letting his paw pads be squeezed without reacting for a long while.
Not long after,
The driver arrived at the Xie residence. Xie Chen carried the sleeping white little kitten in his arms and got out of the car.
“Sir, you’re back.”
The butler, who always waited at home for Xie Chen, unusually came out to the door, his eyes full of expectation.
Of course, Xie Chen was fully aware that this expectation was not for him.
Sure enough, before he could step forward, the butler immediately asked, “Where’s the kitten? After receiving your WeChat, I made some cat food at home—wondering if the kitten would like it.”
Xie Chen raised his eyes, glanced at the butler’s excited face, showing no intention of handing over the little kitten.
He said coldly, “The cat is sleeping.”
The butler eagerly responded, “Then give it to me. I’ll take him back to the cat nest to sleep.”
The cat nest was a luxurious one bought by the butler, complete with soft bedding, very exquisite.
Feeling the soft little cat ball in his palm, Xie Chen had no plan to give it away now.
“He’s a bit dirty. I’ll give him a bath.”
To get more time to touch the cat, Xie Chen deliberately changed the subject and said he was going to bathe the cat.
Xie Bo: “...”
Xie Bo listened in disbelief, unable to accept that this was something his Sir would say.
Xie Chen left the butler behind and directly entered the house.
A moment later,
Xie Bo looked at the little kitten being taken into the bedroom by Sir, his expression bitter, even his tone sour.
“Didn’t Sir say he’d bring the kitten back for me to take care of? Why is he taking on the bathing himself now?”
The cat nest and cat food he prepared still waited for the kitten.
Simply heartbreaking!
At this moment, inside the bedroom,
Xie Chen lowered his eyes, watching the little kitten who curled into a ball after falling asleep, his gaze lingering on the fur for a few seconds.“Wake up.”
He shook the round little kitten ball, his voice emotionless: “Take a bath then sleep.”
Bai Li was overdrafted, just now drunk from the goat milk, dizzy and woozy. Now being shaken awake by Xie Chen, his beautiful amber eyes were wet, looking like he was about to cry.
Xie Chen’s heart tightened. Just as he was about to say something, Bai Li propped up his palm and shakily sat up.
“Meow?”
Bath, bath?
Bai Li caught those few words just now, looking up with his little round face to ask.
Xie Chen replied with a “Hmm”: “Yes, a bath.”
He was obsessive about cleanliness. Although the little kitten was cute, that round little body had already gotten dirty outside. For him to hold Bai Li until now had already crossed the line.
Now that they were home, he naturally couldn’t let this little guy stay dirty any longer.
Bai Li nodded drowsily, then was taken by Xie Chen to the bathroom.
The bathtub was like a swimming pool to the palm-sized little kitten, so Xie Chen didn’t put him in the tub but took a water basin of suitable size.
The basin was filled with warm water.
Cats love playing with water but also fear it; generally, no kitten would voluntarily jump into water to bathe.
Although Bai Li wasn’t an ordinary kitten, he was still a little scared of bathing.
“Meow, meow ya.”
Can you hold me?
The clear youthful voice fell by Xie Chen’s ear, who softly replied “Hmm,” agreeing.
In the strange basin, Bai Li was hesitant to dip his paws. He clutched two of Xie Chen’s fingers, his whole body still hanging on Xie Chen’s hand.
After hanging on a little while, the little kitten still wouldn’t move his butt.
Xie Chen reminded, “The water’s getting cold.”
Bai Li shook his head: “Meow.”
I know.
After meowing, Bai Li looked at the full basin of water, trying hard to build up courage inside. After a while, he braced himself, closed his eyes, and suddenly let go of Xie Chen’s paw.
“Splash—”
The little kitten courageously dove in ball form, splashing cold water all over Xie Chen’s face.
Xie Chen: “...”
If it were someone else, they’d probably freeze right there.Xie Chen closed his eyes, took out a tissue, and wiped the water droplets off his face. At the same time, his mind kept repeating the little kitten’s good person card.
I am a good person, I am a good person.
Xie Chen calmly brainwashed himself several times before managing to maintain his good person image.
Bai Li, unaware that he was causing trouble, fell into the basin, splashing and struggling to stay afloat.
“Meow aow!!!”
Save me!
Xie Chen’s brow twitched from the noise. He quickly lifted the soaked little kitten to sit up.
Bai Li grabbed his hand, panicked, refusing to let go.
Seeing that Bai Li was scared, Xie Chen let him hold on, freeing his other hand to pour clean water and start washing.
The water was comfortably warm, and the basin was spacious enough.
Bai Li sat in the water, his racing heart gradually calming down.
“Meow meow.”
Bai Li, with his wet head, sincerely thanked him.
Xie Chen, used to receiving these good person cards, didn’t respond but gently started cleaning the slightly dirty little kitten bit by bit.
After the bath, before Xie Chen could take him to dry, Bai Li began shaking his fur wildly on his own.
Once again suffering from this, Xie Chen wiped his face, his eyes cold: “Your good person card is almost used up.”
Bai Li blinked his beautiful wet eyes and tilted his head innocently: “Meow?”
What did you say?
Xie Chen stared at him for a few seconds and said calmly, “Congratulations, your card has been renewed.”
He could still be a good person for a little while longer.
Bai Li was full of question marks, not understanding what Xie Chen meant, and Xie Chen didn’t intend to explain.
In the bathroom, there was a hairdryer. Xie Chen turned on the warm air and dried the little kitten from head to paws.
After an unknown amount of time,
Bai Li stood on the table, looking left and right into the mirror on the table.
“Meow woo!”
I’m really handsome!
Bai Li rubbed his face with his paws, quietly praising himself while looking at the clean little kitten in the mirror. When on the mountain, older brothers, older sisters, and elders would praise him every day—praising him for being good-looking, praising him for being cute, and even when he occasionally ate too much, praising his good appetite.
In short, although Bai Li didn’t grow up much, although his mind wasn’t very sharp, and his memory was always poor, even a bit face-blind, there was no doubt that he was raised in an atmosphere full of love.
A little kitten raised soaked in love also carried a heart full of love for others.
Xie Chen placed him on the bedroom table to look in the mirror, then went to take a shower himself.
When washing the kitten earlier, he had been splashed with a lot of water, and enduring it until now was already quite a feat.
When Xie Chen finished showering and came out, the little kitten who had been looking in the mirror on the table was already gone.
He tied his pajamas’ belt and scanned the bedroom with his eyes, finally stopping on the big bed.
The neatly made blanket on the bed was slightly bulging in the center.
Xie Chen walked over in a few steps, lifted the blanket, and saw a little kitten with eyes closed, paws stretched out, showing his soft belly.
The little kitten was sleeping soundly but for some unknown reason, he twitched his paws a few times right under Xie Chen’s watchful eyes.
Xie Chen sat down and pinched his paws, which were pink and tender like blooming plum blossoms.
Under the bright light, Xie Chen pinched the paws for quite a while. Until the bedroom door was knocked, he got up and handed the little kitten to the butler standing at the door.
No one ever stayed overnight in his bedroom; in fact, besides himself, no breathing creature was allowed to spend the night there.
The butler knew this rule well, so even though Xie Chen had personally bathed the little kitten, he also knew that when it was time to sleep, the kitten needed to be taken away.
The night deepened.
The little kitten, moved while asleep, now slept in a luxurious cat bed, protected from wind and rain.
This sleep was not long. When Bai Li opened his eyes, it was pitch dark all around.
“Meow aow?”
He crawled out of the cat bed, stayed still for a while, then slowly came to his senses.
This was no longer the bedroom.
Bai Li instinctively wanted to find his master. He had never opened his eyes to see the butler. To him, the only familiar person here was his master.
In this unfamiliar place, Bai Li’s heart was anxious.
He twitched his little nose, trying hard to distinguish in the darkness that faint familiar scent—his master’s.
The villa was shrouded in night.
Bai Li stepped lightly on his paw pads, tapping quietly as he searched for someone in the dark. After wandering around many twists and turns, his small body stopped in front of a door.
A faint dim light leaked from the door, accompanied by rapid sounds of musical instrument playing.
The sound was sometimes as beautiful as celestial music, and at other times suddenly broken like sobbing.
Bai Li stood outside, dazedly listening. He vaguely sensed that the person playing the instrument wasn’t really playing, but venting something. The door wasn’t shut tight.
Bai Li tiptoed on his paws, leaned against the door, and peered through the crack.
At this sight, he was stunned.
“Meow.”
It was Master.
He meowed softly, the meow carrying a hint of confusion.
Inside, the floor was piled with various musical instruments. Master, wearing pajamas and barefoot, sat casually among the instruments, his posture like a commanding king.
He could play every instrument there, and each one sounded beautiful when he played it alone.
But what made Bai Li feel helpless wasn’t this strange late-night playing, but the many little pills scattered near his hands and feet.
Medicine.
Bai Li knew about it; when he was on the mountain, he had taken a lot of medicine.
Grandfather said too much medicine was bad, and if taken excessively, it could even kill.
Looking at the pills scattered all over the floor and then at his abnormal Master, tears welled up in his amber eyes.
“Meowoo, woo.”
Bai Li couldn’t bear to let such a good Master die! He rammed into the door with his head, like a little cannonball, launching himself out.
Master Xie Chen, about to step on the drum, suddenly felt something wrap around his foot.
He looked down, his gaze meeting the newcomer’s.
Bai Li was holding onto Xie Chen’s ankle tightly, his chubby little body sitting on his cold foot.
“Meow!”
Don’t die.
Bai Li looked at him with tearful eyes, claws gripping tight, his heavy little bottom pressing down on him as if to weigh him down so he couldn’t move—that was how he felt reassured.
Xie Chen twitched his eyelid at the quivering, sobbing voice.
Die? Who said he was going to die?
He was the kind of person who always believed that those who annoyed him should be the ones to die.
