Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Before long, the driver took Xie Chen to the company entrance, then drove the car back to the place from earlier.
Bai Li was pulling the cart, completely unaware that someone was quietly following him.
"Big brother."
After pulling the cart all afternoon, Meimei the cat was completely exhausted. He said gloomily, "I'm so hungry."
Bai Li put the cart back at the grocery store and told the owner they needed to take a break for a while.
"Meimei, let's go buy some cat food."
Meimei’s eyes lit up: "Thank you, big brother!"
The grocery store owner gave him the morning’s wages. He earned thirty, and Meimei pulled fewer goods, earning only ten yuan.
The pet store sold loose cat food, ten yuan per jin and twenty yuan per jin.
Bai Li looked at Meimei and clenched twenty yuan with his paws: "Meow meow."
He wanted one jin.
Meimei hesitated when she saw the twenty yuan per jin cat food, then walked forward and tapped Bai Li: "Big brother, get the cheaper one, then it will last longer."
Bai Li shook his head: "Meow."
No.
Too cheap cat food is not good for a growing cat.
Using his meow hypnosis, Bai Li successfully bought one jin of cat food and hung it around his neck.
The two little cats left the pet store. Bai Li led Meimei toward under the overpass, and along the way, he bought a warm white steamed bun.
The steamed bun was cheap, only fifty cents.
After buying the things,
Bai Li took Meimei and the cat food and steamed bun back under the overpass.
He opened the bag of cat food and let Meimei eat a bit to fill her stomach.
"Big brother, aren’t you eating?"
Bai Li put the steamed bun on a piece of cardboard, meowing seriously: "I’ll eat this."
He wasn’t really a little cat, but a little monster, so he could eat human food.Diandian and Da Hui in the cardboard box, still sick, barely ate any canned food.
Bai Li gave them some water to drink.
“Wait until five o’clock, Meimei and I will come pick you up to go to the hospital,” Bai Li said as he patted Diandian’s head to comfort him.
Diandian forced himself to stay strong and obediently meowed, “Okay.”
It wasn’t that Bai Li didn’t want to go now, but he was afraid that the money he had wouldn’t be enough, and they might get kicked out at the hospital.
The situation of the two little brothers under the overpass was clearly getting worse.
Bai Li was worried in his heart, but he pulled the cart faster than in the morning.
At four-thirty, after pulling the cart, Bai Li asked the boss for his wages and returned on time to pick up Diandian.
On the way to the hospital, Bai Li led the way, his meows filled with nervousness: “Diandian, Da Hui, don’t be afraid, we’re only going to the hospital to see a doctor.”
They definitely wouldn’t be neutered!
Diandian and Da Hui had been to the pet hospital before for vaccines, so they weren’t scared.
They wanted to say they weren’t afraid, but smart Meimei noticed that the one who seemed scared was their big brother.
“Big brother.”
Meimei meowed, “The hospital isn’t scary at all, we don’t need to be afraid.”
Bai Li’s small round face was serious as he gave a solemn “hmm,” but his heart was pounding anxiously.
He had used a lot of cat hypnosis today, plus overexerted his demon pill; now his eyelids felt heavy.
If a doctor really wanted to neuter him later, Bai Li thought, he definitely wouldn’t have the strength to dodge it.
After walking a long while, the little cats finally reached the hospital entrance.
Bai Li’s cat hypnosis started again!
“Meow, meow-ow, meow-ow-ow.”
Hello, I brought my little brothers to see the doctor; they are sick.
The pet hospital doctor was a very young man, with a nameplate that read: Qiu He.
Doctor Qiu He had a gentle face and spoke kindly. He squatted down, looked at the little cats, and smiled: “Hello, let me see what’s wrong with them.”
Diandian and Da Hui told Bai Li where they felt unwell, and Bai Li relayed it to Doctor Qiu.
Doctor Qiu was extremely gentle.
He took X-rays for Diandian and Da Hui, and while waiting for the results, gave them canned fish food.
“For you.”
Qiu He’s hand touched Bai Li’s nape, eyes squinting as he sniffed the little kitten.Bai Li didn’t like eating cat canned food much; he preferred human food.
Right now, seeing Meimei looking enviously, he generously gave the canned fish to Meimei.
Qiu He was so enchanted by the little kitten that he almost fainted. Such a well-behaved and beautiful little kitten was truly rare to find.
Soon, the test results for Diandian and Da Hui came out. Both were infected with the calicivirus, which is feline viral respiratory disease.
“This disease is common in cats. Although the infection rate is high, the mortality rate is very low.”
Holding the test results, Qiu He spoke gently: “Both cats need intravenous fluids and a small injection.”
Bai Li nodded: “Meow.”
Alright.
They needed three small bottles of fluid and one injection.
When the injections were given, both Diandian and Da Hui meowed in pain.
Bai Li felt heartbroken watching them and comforted the two little cats: “Meow, meow meow.”
Don’t cry, big brother will buy you some cat treats later.
Cat treats are delicious snacks for cats but quite expensive, costing several yuan for a small piece.
With big brother’s comfort and the temptation of cat treats, Diandian and Da Hui held back their tears and endured the pain of the injection.
By the time the checkup finished, it was already dark outside.
Bai Li was mentally and physically exhausted; he was about to collapse.
“You can stay here overnight.”
Qiu He pointed to the cat beds in the hospital: “Just right, these two need injections again tomorrow, so you don’t have to come back and forth.”
Bai Li obediently nodded: “Meow ow.”
Thank you.
Diandian and Da Hui’s treatment today cost 600 yuan total — 300 for X-rays and tests, 350 for fluids and injections. But Doctor Qiu didn’t charge any extra cents, so they only paid 600.
Even the cat treats were given to them for free.
In the pouch hanging from Bai Li’s neck, he originally thought there were only about five hundred yuan, but when he used his paws to pull out the money, he found he had a lot more.
“Sir.”
Bai Li meowed softly, his beautiful amber eyes shining brightly.
Sir really is a great person!
Thanks to the money Sir quietly slipped him, Diandian and Da Hui’s treatment fees could be paid.Bai Li was grateful to Sir but didn’t plan to take Sir’s money for free.
Earning money was hard work. Bai Li clenched his paws and vowed to pay Sir back someday, or work for Sir to repay the debt!
“Meow, meow-oo.”
Diandian, Da Hui, Meimei, you three stay at the hospital; I’ll go back under the overpass to check on the nest.
Under the overpass, in the little nest, there were quite a few things Bai Li had dragged back over these days. He was afraid if no one watched it, someone else might take the nest.
“Meow!”
Big brother, it’s dark outside, you should stay here.
Meimei tried to persuade Bai Li to stay, but she wasn’t successful.
In the end, Bai Li patted Diandian and Da Hui on the heads again and left ten yuan for them as pocket money.
After Bai Li left, Diandian and Da Hui looked at each other and sniffled simultaneously.
“We have to get better quickly and go work with big brother.”
Then, the money earned from working will support big brother!
The two little ones slept in the cat nest, both hoping to recover quickly so they could help share big brother’s burdens.
Outside.
Bai Li walked on the street, his steps a bit unsteady due to overexertion from the demon pill.
He shook his head, trying hard to stay awake.
“Click, click.”
A flash went off in the shadows, then in an office, a phone on the desk dinged.

In the chat window, all the photos sent were of a white little kitten; occasionally, a few other cats appeared next to the kitten.
Xie Chen raised his hand to rub his temples, shifting his gaze from the computer screen.
After a moment.
The driver who was taking photos received a message from Sir.
“Location.”
Just two simple words, but the driver understood Sir was asking for the little kitten’s location.
He sent the GPS position and added: “Sir, this little kitten seems to be unwell, walking very slowly.”The message was sent but received no reply. However, ten minutes later, the driver saw Sir walking over.
He tactfully didn’t approach. After all, Sir was clearly not walking toward him but toward that little kitten waddling awkwardly.
“Meow.”
Under the bright streetlight, Bai Li weakly meowed in a small voice.
He was so tired.
But he couldn’t sleep before reaching under the overpass.
Just as Bai Li continued walking slowly, suddenly, a shadow fell in front of him.
Bai Li blankly looked up with his round little face, his eyes meeting the person’s gaze.
“Meow-ya.”
Bai Li called out dazedly — it was the handsome Sir.
Xie Chen lowered his eyes, looking at those wet amber eyes, strangely feeling familiar, but he clearly knew he had never kept a cat.
“It’s late.”
Xie Chen spoke in a low, pleasant voice, “Do you want me to take you home?”
Bai Li’s little head was so confused it felt like it was filled with paste.
He wanted to say no, but before he could meow it out, his small round body suddenly toppled, landing right on Xie Chen’s leather shoe.
What a cat pulling a scam!
Xie Chen clearly got that scammy feeling too. He looked inscrutably at the little kitten sitting up from his shoe. Through the leather, he could faintly feel the warm temperature of the little kitten.
Bai Li struggled to climb up and sat, hooking his paws onto Xie Chen’s pants leg, his voice weak, “Meow-ow.”
Sorry, I didn’t mean to fall.
Seeing he seemed unable to stand, Xie Chen bent down and easily picked up the palm-sized kitten into his arms.
“Come home with me.”
Xie Chen’s long, handsome fingers ran through his soft white fur, his tone indifferent, “Someone sent me many WeChat messages telling me to bring you home.”
Bai Li wanted to return under the overpass, where the cardboard boxes he collected were. He could sleep in the cardboard at night.
But because he couldn’t meow out, Xie Chen naturally didn’t hear his refusal.
Before long.
The driver who had been watching in the shadows sat in the driver’s seat. Behind him sat the familiar Sir and the little kitten in Sir’s arms.
Sir sat in the car, the little kitten sat in Sir’s arms.So... so scary!
The driver gripped the steering wheel, his face tense. To be honest, after driving for Sir all these years, this was the first time he had seen Sir so gentle with a little kitten.
Too terrifying.
The driver struggled to control himself and barely stopped himself from trembling.
In the back seat, Xie Chen was holding freshly bought goat milk, personally feeding Bai Li.
The goat milk tasted rich. Bai Li hadn’t eaten enough all day, and smelling the scent, he couldn’t help but gulp it down.
After finishing the whole bag of goat milk, Bai Li sprawled on Xie Chen’s lap, curling up like a little kitten pancake. The kitten pancake contentedly let out a milk burp.
“Meow-ow.”
Thank you.
After thanking, Bai Li wanted to bow to Xie Chen who fed him the goat milk.
But his head was dizzy, and his short legs trembled. After struggling to get up, he couldn’t even walk steadily.
Plop—
He wobbled and again sat down right on Xie Chen’s lap.
“Meow, meow-ow.”
So dizzy.
Xie Chen’s cold gaze landed on the little kitten, a barely noticeable curl at the corner of his lips.
“Others get drunk on alcohol, you get drunk on milk.”
He pinched the kitten’s pink paw pads and commented, “Little drunk kitten.”
