Chapter 5
Chapter 5
When Bai Li meowed, he was quite clever and knew to stand in front of the man who got off the car.
The man who helped stop the person who hit the cat was someone Bai Li recognized—the handsome gentleman from the car yesterday.
He tugged on the gentleman’s pant leg with his paw, relying on the familiar man being there, and fiercely threatened the commuter: “Meow-ow, ow!”
All my stuff got broken; you have to pay me.
To make getting compensation easier, Bai Li also used his cat hypnosis on the commuter who hit him, allowing the man to temporarily understand what he was saying.
This hypnosis only works on ordinary humans and the target must be chosen by Bai Li.
Under the hypnosis, the commuter not only understood Bai Li’s meows but was not confused by them.
He tried to cheat: “Don’t think you can scam me. You only have this little stuff on your cart, and nothing’s broken. I’m not paying you.”
Bai Li angrily meowed: “Meow-ow!!”
You have to pay!
He had seen that some drink bottles were broken, and if he delivered goods like that, the boss would definitely reject them.
While the man and cat were arguing, no one noticed that the gentleman, whose pant leg Bai Li was holding, suddenly narrowed his pupils upon hearing the kitten’s meows, as if a storm surged in his eyes but was suppressed instantly.
He could understand those meows.
The meows that sounded like kitten squeaks to outsiders were a clear youthful voice in his ears.
The boy’s voice was angry yet aggrieved: “I pulled a whole cart of stuff, only made five yuan. The drinks you broke cost a lot. If you don’t pay me, the boss will come after me for compensation.”
He couldn’t afford to pay.
So far today, he had only earned twenty yuan.
While the commuter argued, Bai Li’s meowing was becoming hoarse.
He clenched his little paws, his amber eyes wet, looking pitifully like he was trying hard not to cry.
Xie Chen lowered his gaze, looking at the little kitten’s wet eyes, and somehow his heart inexplicably softened.
“There’s surveillance here.”
Amid the kitten’s nearly tearful meows, Xie Chen spoke calmly: “If you want to avoid responsibility, I don’t mind calling the police.”
Though Xie Chen’s face was handsome, his aura was intimidating, and the pressure radiating from him was overwhelming.
The worker, seeing Xie Chen supporting the little kitten and looking at his own shabby clothes, knew this wouldn’t end well.“You’re already so rich, why don’t you just take this little kitten home and raise him? Why do you have to squeeze something out of me?” the worker grumbled dissatisfied.
Xie Chen gave a cold glance, and in the next second, the other man shivered under his gaze and immediately fell silent.
“Here.”
The worker took out his wallet and pulled out several hundred-yuan bills.
“Three hundred yuan.”
He handed the money in front of the little kitten, his tone a bit weak: “You look lively, doesn’t seem serious, probably don’t need a check-up.”
“Consider this money compensation for your loss.”
The worker had heard from friends that taking a cat for an X-ray starts at five hundred yuan, and if problems are found, treating cats is even more expensive than treating humans.
He planned to settle for three hundred.
Bai Li had never seen so much money; his eyes went wide.
“Meow.”
Three hundred yuan, indeed.
Hearing the satisfied tone in the kitten’s meow, Xie Chen’s cold eyes narrowed slightly. He squatted down and pinched the back of the little kitten’s neck.
Quite soft.
No wonder he’s so round and plump—lots of fur, and quite a bit of meat too.
“Three hundred?”
A trace of mockery flashed in Xie Chen’s eyes: “Compensation for the goods, plus the cat’s check-up, and you settle for three hundred?”
The worker: “...”
He added another two hundred.
Bai Li looked at the worker’s electric scooter, then at the five hundred yuan, and softly meowed, “Five hundred is enough, no need to give more.”
Both were workers; this money was enough to cover his losses. As for the check-up, he didn’t plan to go; he wanted to take Diandian and Da Hui to see the vet.
Seeing the little kitten wasn’t asking for more, Xie Chen finally let the worker leave.
After the worker rode off on his scooter, Bai Li looked up with his little round face and admiringly looked at Xie Chen.
“Meow, meow meow.”
Thank you, you’re so kind.
Listening to that pleasant youthful voice, Xie Chen couldn’t help but rub the fingers pinching Bai Li’s neck.
Bai Li didn’t resist at all when touched.
Back on the mountain, his older brothers and sisters often groomed him.He knew—this was because he liked him that he was touching his fur.
The master must like him.
Xie Chen looked steadily at the round little kitten, thinking about the messages the butler had just sent on WeChat.
“Do you want to come home with me?”
Xie Chen’s voice was low as he slowly asked the little kitten staring at his face.
“Meow.”
No.
Bai Li rejected without a second thought; he wouldn’t be anyone’s house cat.
He had to wait for his brothers and sisters to find him, had to work to support his little brother, and also—
Oh right, he still had to find his matchstick fiancé!
He almost forgot that again.
Bai Li nervously raised his paw to scratch his head, deciding to look at his fiancé’s portrait a few more times once he got back.
Xie Chen raised an eyebrow, not expecting him to refuse.
But since the little kitten was unwilling, there was no way he would forcefully take such a tiny kitten, no bigger than a palm, back with him.
That would be like stealing a cat.
“Fine.”
Xie Chen finally pinched his soft little body, then stood up.
He didn’t leave right away but took a few steps forward to pack all the scattered goods on the ground.
After packing, he re-tied the rope onto the little kitten’s vest.
Bai Li was touched, tears welling in his eyes: “Meow meow.”
You really are a good person.
Rarely receiving a “good person” card, Xie Chen’s lips curled slightly, like a good person, he tightly stuffed the money that was hung around his neck into his pocket.
And, while the little kitten wasn’t paying attention, he added a little more.
With such clean eyes and a soft “good person” card, Xie Chen for once really acted like a good person.
“Let’s go.”
Having done a good deed, he let the little kitten continue working for him.
Meimei, who had been standing nearby, showed some concern for Bai Li: “Big brother, are you hurt from the fall? If you want, I can pull the cart alone for a while, you rest.”Meimei’s meow, Xie Chen didn’t understand.
But Bai Li’s meows, he heard clearly.
“I’m not hurt,” the little kitten comforted his companion. “Let’s keep pulling. After we finish, we’ll take Diandian and Dahui to see a doctor tonight.”
“Mm!”
The two little kittens agreed and started pulling the cart with effort again.
Xie Chen watched the little kitten pulling the cart run far away and stood still for a long while.
Until the driver nervously came down to remind him, “Sir, you have a meeting at the company at ten.”
Xie Chen didn’t respond.
After a while, when the little kitten was almost out of sight, Xie Chen turned and got into the car.
“After taking me to the company, go find that little kitten from before.”
The driver was stunned: “You want to take him home?”
“No.”
Xie Chen looked down and opened WeChat without even raising his eyelids. “Follow him and record his movements.”
“Okay.”
